56 Young Soon Won Dept. of Health Administration The Graduate School of Government and Business Yonsei University The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of oral state and dietary habit to health condition among elderly people. The subjects in this study were 220 senior citizens who were randomly selected from among dwellers in Eunpyeong-gu and Jongno-gu, Seoul. A survey was conducted by one-on-one interview to find out their oral state, eating habit and health condition. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS 10.0 program, and variance analysis, correlation analysis and regression procedure were employed. The findings of this study were as follows: First, there was significant relationship between their oral status and regular eating habits. Whether or not they had meals on a regular basis was affected by their subjective perception of oral state. The elderly people who underwent more oral problems ate meals regularly as a whole. Second, their oral health was significantly associated with the intake of

57 vegetable and fruit. Those who had more real teeth ate vegetables and fruits more frequently, and those who suffered more oral problems showed the same tendency as well. Third, their eating habit was significantly related to their subjective health state. Those who considered themselves in good shape had meals regularly and ate vegetables, fruits, milk and dairy products more often. This fact illustrated that dietary habit had significant relationship with health. Fourth, the older people were more unhealthy, and the men were healthier than the women. Those who experienced more oral problems weren't in good shape, and those who ate more portions, vegetables and fruits were healthier
