5 THE WEEK JUNIOR SCHOOL LATEST NEWS BULLETINS FAST FORWARD PARENT MEETING Next year and beyond for Grade 3 Parents Our first Fast Forward meeting of the year will be held on Wednesday 20th September from pm in the School Centre. Grade 3 parents, please join Mr. Drury, Mrs. Archie, Ms. Sutton and Ms. Tilney as we share some steps up from Grade 3 towards Grade 4 and beyond in areas such as reading, writing, mathematics and science. SPOTLIGHT ON GRADE 2 Parents are invited to "Sharing our Learning" on Friday morning from 8:20-8:50am. This will be a weekly event. Maths: focusing on number fluency, including: standard form, expanded form, number words, and pictures. Last week G2 focused on numbers up to the hundreds place, and this week will move into the thousands and ten thousands place. Writing: students focused on reading different difficulties of procedural writing, and this week they will refocus on writing their own procedures of their choice.reading: guided reading groups allow each student to meet with a teacher as part of a small group. This week students will be reading non-fiction books and learning to identify the main idea and supporting details in reading groups. SPOTLIGHT ON GRADE 5 What we learned this week 4-8 September Science experiment testing viscosity Home science experiments Cause and effect chains Mr Hammond s Design studio and learned about his machines and materials Area & circumference of circles Learned what Pi is Draw conclusions from looking at the results/data Maths poster: formulas, design and measurement Use accurate information and most important information Created scores in music Social skills: teamwork, doing a specific role Using a powerful voice Expression, confidence when communicating Swimming- how to turn Teamwork and cooperation sports games Fast Forward 3 학년학부모미팅 3 학년학부모님들을위한 Fast Forward 미팅을 9 월 20 일, 수요일, 오후 3~4 시에스쿨센터에서개최합니다. 읽기, 쓰기, 수학, 과학등의학업과학교생활에서 3 학년이앞으로진급하면서경험하게될변화에대해이야기나누는자리가될것입니다. Mr. Drury 3 학년선생님, Mrs. Archie 4 학년선생님, Ms. Sutton 교감선생님과 Ms. Tilney 교장선생님이함께준비하시는수요일미팅에 3 학년학부모님들의많은참여를바랍니다. 2학년소식금요일오전 8시20분 ~50분에 부모님참여수업 을진행했으며, 앞으로주간행사로매주부모님과함께하겠습니다. 수학 : 기본형식, 응용형식, 숫자단어와그림등숫자에대한탐구. 지난주에백단위수까지공부했으며, 이번주에는천단위와만단위수의학습에들어갔습니다. 쓰기 : 절차적글쓰기의어려운점에대해읽어보고, 이번 주에는집중해서스스로선택한절차에대한글쓰기를해보고있습니다. 읽기 : 선생님과학생이개별만남을가졌으며, 이번주에는리딩그룹에서논픽션책을읽고주제와내용을파악하는방법을배우고있습니다. 5 학년소식 9 월 4 일 ~8 일주간학습내용 : 점성을테스트하는과학실험 가정과학실험 인과사슬 Mr Hammond 선생님의디자인스튜디오에서다양한 장비와재료탐구 원의면적및원주 파이에대해학습 결과 / 데이터를보고결론도출하기 수학포스터 : 수식, 디자인및측정 정확한정보와가장중요한정보사용 악보만들기 사회적기술 : 팀워크, 특정한역할의수행 힘있는목소리사용 의사소통시표현과자신감 수영 - 턴하기 팀워크와협동심이요구되는스포츠게임 04

6 THE WEEK JUNIOR SCHOOL LATEST NEWS BULLETINS LEARNING ENGLISH AS AN ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE Tip of the Week Students new to English can be confused when they hear their teacher (or others) talking about themselves in the third person. It really helps English as an Additional Language students to hear people refer to themselves as I and not by their name, such as Mr. Smith or Ms Jones. 영어배우기금주의팁영어를처음배우는학생들은선생님 ( 혹은타인 ) 이스스로를 제 3 자로호칭할때혼란스러워할수있습니다. 자신을 Mr. Smith 나 Ms. Jones 가아닌 나 로표현해주는것이학생 들에게큰도움이됩니다. PATIENCE AT STUDENT DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP When you stop to drop-off or pick-up your children beside the small path near the Upper Junior pod please drive directly away as soon as your child or children are safely out of or into the car. We have noticed a few parents being a little impatient and overtaking cars that are stopping to drop-off or pick-up, this leads to traffic congestion and is potentially dangerous. Please be patient and help traffic to flow smoothly and safely. 학생등교와픽업시유의사항 Upper Junior Pod 옆정낭앞에서자녀를내려주시거나태우실때는자녀가안전하게차에서내리거나탄것을확인하는즉시출발해주시기바랍니다. 간혹기다리시지못하고자녀를내려주거나픽업하기위해정차해있는차를추월하시는경우가있습니다. 이로인해혼잡이야기되고사고의위험도있습니다. 조금기다려주실것과원활하고안전한등하굣길을위해협조를당부드립니다. END OF SCHOOL ARRANGEMENTS 29 September All students at BHA (JS as well as MS and SS) will finish at 3:00pm on Friday 29th September as we close for the Chuseok break. Please arrange to pick up your children at 3.00pm. For those children taking the school buses, buses will depart at 3:10pm. Specifically, our Advisory teachers have been tasked with helping foster a sense of community and support within their individual Advisory sections. 2: The Grade 6 s explore the factors that affect the rates of chemical reactions in Mr. Langley s science class. 3-4: Mrs. Binns Grade 11 students learn about biological membrane biochemistry and the movement of materials into and out of cells. 5-6: The Grade 12 celebrate their CAS projects, while helping and providing advice to the Grade 11 s as they take on their Community, Activity, and Service projects. 06

MONDAY Move It Monday has finally arrived. Just as studying is important, so is getting some balance through exercising. The Middle and Senior Schools have begun their Move it Monday programs this past week. On a tri-weekly rotation, our girls will participate in a 40 minute physical activity such as Yoga, Dodgeball, Jump Rope, Floor Hockey, Basketball, Dance, and more. Don t forget your proper Move it Monday Uniforms! REMINDER - ALL MS/SS STUDENTS ARE TO REMAIN ON THE ACADEMIC SIDE OF THE BHA CAMPUS UNTIL 4:30 ON TUE, WED, THUR, AND FRI. Students are encouraged to use this time to study in the the Library, the Green Lamp Room, or with a teacher, until 4:30pm if you don't have CASE. If students need to see a teacher about an assessment or for extra help, this is a perfect time to do so, and to get one-on-one instruction. STUDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO SEE THE NURSE DURING LUNCH OR AFTER FLEX. Over the last four weeks, there have been hundreds of visits to the school nurse during school time 8:30am-5:30pm. This means that students are missing invaluable class time with teachers and peers. To avoid this, we encourage students to visit the Nurse's Station during Lunch, or after FLEX, at 3:30pm, if they don't have CASE.
