2 [ 신조 ] Beliefs 서언 Preface 미주한인예수교장로회는아래기록한열두조목을목사와장로와집사와모든성도로하여금승인케할신조로한다. 이것은성경과그성경을밝히해석한책으로인정된웨스트민스터신앙고백서와성경대, 소요리문답을요약한것이다. 그러므로우리교회와신학교에서마땅히가르칠것으로한다. Korean American Presbyterian Church in America hold the following twelve articles as the creed which should be approved by pastors, elders, deacons and all members. These are a summary of the Bible, Westminster Confession of Faith and the Larger and Shorter Catechisms which are confirmed to have interpreted the Bible rightly. Therefore, our churches and seminaries ought to teach them. l. 신, 구약성경은하나님의말씀이니신앙과행위에대한정확무오한유일의법칙이다. 1. Because the Old and New Testaments of the Bible are the Word of God, they are the only accurate and inerrant authority for faith and deeds. 2. 하나님은한분뿐이시니오직그에게만경배하여야한다. 하나님은신이시니자연히계시고, 안계신곳이없으시다. 다른신이나모든물질과구별되시며, 그존재와지혜와권능과거룩하심과공의와인자하심과진실하심과사랑하심이무한하시며변하지아니하신다. 2. There is only one God and we are to worship Him only. God is great "I am" and is omnipresent. He is apart from other gods and materials. His existence, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, loving kindness, faithfulness, and love is infinite and immutable. 3. 하나님은본체에세위가계시니성부, 성자, 성령이신데이세위는한하나님이시다. 본체는하나요. 권능과영광이동등이시다. 3. There is one God, who exists in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, co-equal in power and glory. 4. 하나님께서모든유형물과무형물을그권능의말씀으로창조하사보존하시고주장하시나결코죄를내신이는아니시다. 모든것을자기뜻의계획대로행하시며만유는다하나님의착하시고지혜롭고거룩하신목적을성취하도록역사하신다. 4. God created everything visible and invisible with the words, sustains, and reigns it, but He is not the author os sin. He runs everything according to his plan and works to accomplish his good, wise, holy purpose. 5. 하나님이사람을남녀로지으시되자기의형상대로지식과의와거룩함으로지으사생물을주관하게하셨으니세상모든사람이한근원에서나왔으므로다동포요형제다. 5. God created man and woman in his own image with righteousness and holiness and gave a mandate to rule over all the creatures. Therefore, all mankind has one origin. 6. 우리의시조가선악간택할자유가있었는데유혹을받아하나님께죄를범하였다. 그러므로아담으로부터보통생육법에의하여출생하는모든인종들이그의안에서그의범죄에동참하여타락하였다. 사람은원죄와부패한성품이외에죄를범할가능성이있으므로일부러짓는죄도있다. 그러므로모든사람이금세와내세에하나님의공평한진노와형벌을받는것이마땅하다. 6. Our forefather had freedom to choose between good and evil, was tempted, and sinned against God. Therefore, all people born naturally have sinned and fallen together in Adam. Because people have not only

3 original sin and sinful nature but also desires to sin, there is also intentional sin. Therefore, all people deserve God's righteous wrath and punishment for this life and the life hereafter. 7. 하나님께서는인류를죄와부패함과죄의형벌에서구원하고영생을주시려고무한하신사랑으로그의영원하신독생자주예수그리스도를세상에보내셨다. 예수님으로만하나님께서육신을이루셨고또예수님으로만사람이구원을얻을수있다. 그영원한아들이참사람이되사그후로한위에특수한두성품이있어영원토록참하나님이시오참사람이시다. 예수님은성령의권능으로잉태되어동정녀마리아에게서나섰으되죄는없는분이시다. 예수님은죄인을대신하여하나님의법을완전히복종하시고몸을드려참되고온전한제물이되사하나님의공의를만족하게하시며사람으로하여금하나님과화목하게하시려고십자가에못박혀죽으셨다. 그리고죽은자가운데서삼일만에부활하신후승천하사하나님우편에앉으셨다. 그곳에서자기백성을위하여기도하시다가죽은자를다시살리시고세상을심판하러재림하신다. 7. God sent his one and only Son Jesus Christ our Lord out of his abounding love to the world to save people from sin, depravity and its consequent judgment and to give eternal life. Only in Jesus did God took up human flesh and only through Jesus can people be saved. His eternal Incarnate Son has two natures: He is true God and true man. Jesus was concieved by the power of the Holy Spirit and was born of Virgin Marym but he is without sin. Jesus in the place of people obeyed God's law completely, gave himself as perfect sacrifice to satisfy God's righeousness. He was crucifed and dead to reconcile people to God. He rose from the dead on the third day, ascended into heaven, sat at the righthand of God. He is interceding for his people, will raise the dead and will return to judge the world. 8. 성부와성자로부터오신성령께서는사람이구원에참여하도록역사하신다. 즉사람으로하여금죄와비참함을깨닫게하시며그마음을밝혀그리스도를알게하시고그의지를새롭게하시사권하시며권능을주어, 복음에값없이주마하신예수그리스도를받게하신다. 또그안에서역사하여모든의의열매를맺게하신다. 8. The Holy Spirit sent from the Father and the Son works to bring people into redemption. He convicts them of sin and misery, illumines their hearts to know Christ, renews, convinces, enables their will to receive Jesus Christ who offers the good news freely. He also works within the believers to bear all the fruits of righteousness. 9. 하나님께서는세상을창조하시기전에그리스도안에서자기백성을택하사사랑하므로그앞에서거룩하고흠이없게하셨다. 그리고그기쁘신뜻대로저희를미리작정하사예수그리스도로말미암아자기의아들을삼으셨다. 이것은그사랑하시는아들안에서저희에게풍성히주시는은혜의영광을찬미하게하려는것이다. 하나님은세상모든사람에게온전한구원을값없이주시려고이렇게명하셨다. 너희죄를회개하고주예수그리스도를자기의구주로믿고의지하여본받으며하나님의나타내신뜻을복종하여겸손하고거룩하게행하라 그러므로그리스도를믿고복종하는자는구원을얻는다. 저희가받는바특별한유익은의가있게하심과, 양자가되어하나님의아들의수에참여하게하심과, 성령의감화로거룩하게하심과, 영원한영광이다. 그러므로믿는자는이세상에서도구원얻는줄로확실히알수있고기뻐할것이다. 성령께서이와같은역사를행하실때에은혜베푸시는방도는특별히성경말씀과성례와기도이다. 10. 그리스도께서세우신성례는세례와성찬이다. 세례는물을가지고성부와성자와성령의이름으로씻음이니우리가그리스도와연합하는표와인을치는것인데, 성령으로거듭남과새롭게하심과주님께속한것임을약속하는것이다. 세례는그리스도안에서신앙을고백하는자와그들의자녀들에게베푸는것이다. 성찬은그리스도의죽으심을기념하여떡과잔에참여하는것이니믿는자가그죽으심으로인하여오는유익을받는것을인을쳐서증거하는표이다. 성찬은주님께서오실때까지주님의백성이

4 행할것이며, 주님을믿고그속죄를의지함과거기서부터오는유익을받음과더욱주님을섬기기로언약함과주님과그의백성이서로교통하는표이다. 성례의유익은성례자체로말미암음도아니요성례를베푸는자의덕으로말미암음도아니요다만그리스도의복주심과또한믿음으로성례를받는자가운데계신성령의역사하심으로말미암음이다. 11. 모든신자의본분은입교하여서로교제하며그리스도의성례와그밖의규례를지키며주의법을복종하는것이다. 그리고항상기도하며주일을거룩하게지키며주를경배하기위하여함께모여선포되는주의말씀을설교함을자세히들어야한다. 또하나님께서우리에게풍성히베푸신대로예물을드리며그리스도의마음으로서로교제하고, 모든사람과더불어마음을같이하며, 또한그리스도의나라가온세상에확장되기위하여힘쓰며, 주께서그의영광중에나타나심을바라고기다릴것이다. 12. 죽은자는끝날에부활하며그리스도의심판대앞에서이세상에서선악간행한바를따라보응을받는다. 그리스도를믿고복종한자는현저히사함을얻고영광중에영접을받는다. 그러나믿지아니하고악을행하는자는정죄함을입어그죄에합당한형벌을받는다.
