This course provides the practical knowledges and skills for thesis research and writing to students in MS or PhD program 동물바이러스생물학 Biology of Animal Viruses 이과목은동물바이러스에대한기본적인내용으로바이러스의모양, 화학적구성, 체내침입, 증식, 배출, 면역반응, 병성기전, 예방등의내용을심도있게다룬다. This course will cover advanced knowledges of animal viruses including viral morphology, physiochemical consrtuction, viral entry, proliferation, release, chemotheraphy, and prevention and control 동물생리학특론 Advanced Vertebrate Physiology 학부의생물학보다는더자세하고, 대학원생리학분야전공자의과목내용보다는낮은수준에서, 척추동물몸의기본작동원리를세포, 조직, 개체수준에서다룬다. 강의는척추동물과관련된연구를하거나현재강의를하고있는 5 인이하의교수진에의하여진행되고, 교수당학기별강의담당시간은 3 주로한다. 강의 (3 학점 ) 를중심으로하되, 필요한경우실습을적극권장한다. Basic animal physiology will be reviewed by 4-5 faculty members at the levels of cells, tissues, and the whole body. This 3-credit course is for graduate students in biological sciences who do not major in physiology. Each faculty member will teach for 2-3 weeks per semester. This course provides new developments and current R&D trends in veterinary sciences to students in one-hour lecture of invited speakers * 수의통계학 Veterinary Medical Statistics 이과목에서는수의학연구에필요한통계학적방법에대한내용을중점적으로다룬다. 최근수의학연구에서나타나는수량적데이터의논리적인해석은수의학연구의신뢰도를향상하는데결정적인역할을하고있어이분야에대한교육이필요하다. 본과목에서는일반적인수의학적자료처리의기법은물론선형모형의적용, 실험설계의기법및분석방향등을집중적으로다룬다. 특히수의학적특성을지니는생체데이터에대한분석기법도연구한다. This course provides statistical methods needed in veterinary medicine research. The recent trend in this field is to understand exactly the nature of veterinary data so that their results will play a critical role in deriving and applying vetrinary theory. Students will learn about linear statistical models, experimental designs, and laboratory statistics as well as some basic concept in veterinary statistics * 수의학연구방법론 Methodology of Veterinary Research 수의학분야의연구자에게필요한실험설계, 연구윤리, 연구논문및연구제안서작성, 지식재산권및기술이전에관한기본적인사항을배우고익힌다. This course will cover the essential parts of research activities in the fields of veterinary medicine such as experimental design, good research practice, writing research papers and proposals, and securing patent and its transfer to the industry. 수의해부학전공 (Vet. Anatomy Major) 야생동물의비교해부학 Comparative anatomy of wild animals Topics in Industry Research 이과목은산업체전문가와함께운영하며기초, 예방, 임상등수의학제분야산업의현장실무와연구개발에대한지식을강의와토론, 견학 ( 현장실습 ) 을통하여제공한다. 학과장의책임하에관련분야전문가에게위임하여진행한다. This course provides the experience and knowledge on the current issues and R&D trends in the basic, preventive and clinical sciences in the veterinary industry via lecture, discussion and site visits (practical training). The experts in the veterinary industry will participate in teaching. This course will be operated by the faculty who is appointed by Department Chair * 수의학세미나 Seminar in veterinary science 이과목에서는전문가를초청하여석사및박사과정의학생 학점구조는 학점수 - 주당강의시간 - 주당실습시간 을표시한다. 한학기는 15 주로구성됨. (The first number means credits ; the second number means lecture hours per week; and the final number means laboratory hours per week. 15 weeks make one semester.) 이강의에서는야생동물의비교해부학에대한강의가있을예정이다. 특히초식동물과육식동물의해부학적차이가강조될예정이다. 이번강의에서얻을수있는지식은포유동물의진화와적응에대한이해를도울수있을것이다. 그리고학기의중간에, 박물관과동물원을방문하는계획도있기때문에, 이러한방문, 답사는지식의축적을도와줄수있을것으로생각된다. The comparative anatomy of the wild animals will be lectured in this class. The anatomical differences between the herbivore and the carnivore will be especially emphasized. The knowledge which can be obtained in this class will be useful to understand the evolution and adaptation of the mammals. This course provides the understanding of principles and methods on the essential techniques for veterinary anatomical research. This course is designed for graduate students to deal with a wide range of contemporary topics in veterinary anatomical research. Topics will include the latest research findings in gross and microscopical anatomy and neurobiology. Histology is that branch of science which centers on the biology of cells and tissues within an organism, and as such, serves as the foundation on which pathology and pathophysiology are built. From this viewpoint, in this course, the student will intensively study the structure and function of the organ or tissues in which many researchers are very interested, to treat various diseases 전자현미경기술학 Electron Microscopy 전자현미경을이용한초미세구조의관찰은최근의여러연구분야에서필수불가결한방법이다. 이에본강좌에서는전자현미경의구조와사용법을이해하고, 전자현미경시료를만드는과정에대해투과전자현미경과주사전자현미경의경우를예로들어그각각에대해서상세히공부한다. In this course, graduate students will study not only the workings of the electron microscope, but also the major techniques for biological specimen preparation. This course also gives the students a chance to study the theory, techniques, applications and biological implications of the use of the transmission electron microscope and scanning electron microsope, respectively 마우스유전체학및발생학 Genomics and Embryology of Mouse 마우스는인간유전자의기능을이해하는가장중요한수단중의하나로여겨지고있다. 사람의 Human Genome Project 이후마우스의생물학적특성을연구하는것은사람유전자의기능을이해하는데아주중요한수단이되고있다. 특히유전자조작마우스 (genetically engineered mice; GEM) 를제작하거나표현형을분석하는데마우스의발생학적특징과유전체정보는아주중요하다. 본강좌에서는마우스의발생학적특성과마우스유전체연구의최신연구기법및연구분야를제공한다. Mouse is one of the most popular and the stongest tools for understanding of human genome functions. Expecially mouse embryology and genetics could contribute to analyze the phenotype of genetically engineered mice (GEM) and spontaneous mutated mice as an animal model for human disease. This lecture provide the basic characteristics of mouse embryology and current issues of mouse genome study 수의게놈연구특강 Topics in Veterinary Genome Research 수의학분야에서동물질환의게놈연구를위한연구방법및연구결과의응용에대하여강의한다. 게놈의정의와연구역사, 동물간게놈비교연구, 게놈지도와염색체, 동물질환의게놈프로젝트, 동물질환관련염기서열분석및초고속유전자해석법등의게놈연구최신기법, 동물질환관련유전자게놈연구, 동물난치성질환유전자치료법, 유전자테스트, 수의종양유전학, 게놈정보의활용법등이주된내용이다. 이과목에서는가축의중추신경계를중심으로그해부학적구조와기능에대하여강의하며뇌과학에대한기본지식을습득시킨다. This course will cover the definition of the genome, comparative genomics, and research tools for genome analysis related with the animal disease in the field of veterinary medicine. Topics include the following: history, future, and issues in genomics; whole genomes and

3 comparative genomics; genome map, organization and chromosome dynamics (cytogenetics); genome project in animal disease; genetic analysis technologies (animal disease-associated genes), gene therapy; genetic testing and veterinary cancer genetics; and the application of genome information. This course will cover the anatomical organization of the central nervous system of domestic animals from a functional approach 수의발생학특론 Advanced Veterinary Embryology 동물체를구성하는여러가지장기중에서발생학적, 분자생물학적연구에많은대상이되거나각종기형유발인자에대하여손상받기쉽거나유전자조작으로인해나타나는표적장기혹은조직에대해서구체적인발생단계의구조에대하여공부하고익힌다. Students will intensively study, of the various organs within an organism, the target organ or tissue of the developmental stages in which many researchers are very interested embryologically and molecular biologically, to treat abnormalities and cancer. 수의생리학전공 (Vet. Physiology Major) 수의생화학및분자생물학특강 Topics in Veterinary Biochemisstry and Molecular Biology 생화학과분자생물학및분자유전학적최신이론과연구방법은수의학, 동물자원과학, 야생동물보전생물학등분야에광범위하게응용되고있다. 본특강은동물분야에응용되는생화학과분자생물학 분자유전학의시의적절한주제로강의, 토론, 세미나를갖는다. 여기에는다음과같은주제들이포함된다 : 동물의다양성과비교동물대사, 동물의대사성질병, 동물의유전성질병, 분자생물학 분자유전학적연구기법의동물의학에의응용, 분자생물학 분자유전학적연구기법의보전생물학에의응용등. Current theories and methodologies in biochemistry and molecular biology are extensively applied to veterinary medicine, animal science and conservation biology. This course will have lectures, discussions and seminars of timely topics on biochemistry, molecular biology and molecular genetics applied to animal biology area. Conserving global bio-diversity is one of the most important issues facing humankind in the new millenium. The genetic approach is emerging as an important tool in conservation biology. This course, in lectures, discussions, and seminars, deals with the following topics on conservation: molecular phylogenetics and conservation genetics; genetic diversity and fitness; measuring genetic diversity by molecular methods; molecular genetic analysis using non-invasive techniques; inbreeding depression; population substructure and gene flow; kinship and paternity assessment; captive breeding and reintroduction, etc 야생동물보전의학개론 Introduction to Wildlife Conservation Medicine 최근 SARS 의급속한세계적전파예에서보는것처럼, 야생동물의건강과질병은사람의건강과도직접적인관계에있다. 따라서사람과동물의질병관리그리고야생동물보전문제를하나의유기적이고통합적관점에서접근하여야할필요성이대두되었고, 이것이보전의학이라는새로운학문분야를낳게되었다. 본과목은야생동물보전과보전의학에서수의학이담당하여야할중심적역할에대한강의와토론이있을것이며, 다음과같은주제들을다루게될것이다 : 생물다양성, 기후변화, 그리고 EID(Emerging Infectious Diseases); 야생동물에있어내분비장애물질의영향 ; 야생동물건강모니터링 ; 지구생물다양성및생태계변화와사람의건강 ; 인수공통전염병과야생동물보전 ; 동물원에서의멸종위기동물서식지의보전과복원 - 수의학적관점 ; 생물다양성과의학 / 수의학연구. As exemplified by the rapid global spread of SARS recently, the health and disease of wildlife is directly connected to human health. Thus, the birth of conservation medicine stems on the need for a holistic approach to the management of human and animal diseases and wildlife conservation issues. This course will focus on the central role of veterinary medicine in wildlife conservation and conservation medicine and will include lectures and discussions on topics like: biodiversity, climate change, and emerging infectious diseases; effects of endocrine disrupters on wildlife health; monitoring wildlife health; global biodiversity, ecological change and human health; zoonosis and wildlife conservation; Ex situ conservation of endangered species at the zoo and reintroduction-perspectives from the veterinary viewpoint; biodiversity and medical/veterinary research 수의신경과학특론 Special Topics in Space Veterinary Neuroscience 수의임상과연구분야에관련된대학원생을위해신경과학전반에관한전문지식과최신정보를제공함을목적으로함. 이를위해신경과학과관련된생리학, 해부학, 조직학및약리학분야의내용을담당분야의교수들과협의하여공통으로강의하고자함. For this purpose of this course, the lecture will be consist of physiology, anatomy, histology and pharmacology in veterinary neurosicence 동통조절기전특론 Special Topic in Pain Modulation 본강좌는통증의생리학적인특성및진통기전을이해하는데강좌의목표를둔다. 이를위해서본강좌에서는통증의인지및진통의발현기전에연관된신경계의일반적인특성에관해강의하고자한다. The purpose of this lecture is to understand the physiological properties of pain and the mechanism related to analgesia. Recently, there has been a focus on the various therapeutical effects of acupuncture in the fields of medicine and neuroscience. For this reason, new therapeutical trials have been developed in veterinary medicine, using acupuncture. In addition, many research groups have performed elaborate experiments to elucidate precise mechanisms that are related to acupuncture effects. Therefore, this course will provide the basic neurophysiological knowledge and information for understanding acupuncture. This course provides the basic principles of efficacy and affinity in drug action and their measurements at the levels of molecule, cell, tissue and whole body. Main topics include the major receptor theory and analysis of drug action on ion channels, excitable (neuronal and muscle) cells and tissues. Lecture materials include Pharmacologic analysis of drug-receptor interaction (T Kenakin) and Single channel analysis (B Sakman and E Neher) 수의임상약리학특강 Topics in Veterinary Clinical Pharmacology 수의약리학의궁극적인목적은동물질병치료에있어서약물을적절하게적용하는데있다. 기초약리학과정을통해습득한약리학적원리들을바탕으로, 안전하고효과적으로동물에약물을투여하기위하여각각의약물의임상적효과에대해서대학원수준에서토론한다. 이과목에서는다음과같은내용을포함한다. (1) 동물이질병이있을시약동학, 약력학의여러요소들이어떻게변화하는지살펴보고, 임상에응용할수있는능력을기른다. (2) 중추신경계, 자율신경계, 심혈관계, 호흡기, 신장, 내분비계등여러장기에작용하는약물, 또항생제, 항균제, 항염증제, 마취제등에관한약물들익힌다. (3) 약물과약물의상호작용에대하여알아본다. (4) 각각의동물에게최적화된치료를하기위해서각동물의유전자다양성에따른약물효과의다양성등에대해서토론한다. The primary aim of veterinary clinical pharmacology is to optimize therapy for the animal patients. Based on the knowledge of basic pharmacology, this course will focus on the effects of individual drugs on the animal patients. This course will include (1) The change of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics factors in diseases states and application of these factors to clinics (2) Appropriate usage of drugs acting on central nervous, autonomic nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory, renal system and endocrinology. Appropriate usage of antibiotics, antifungal, anti-inflammatory agents, and anesthetics. (3) drug-drug interacvtions (4) pharmacogenomics 수의화학연구기법 Veterinary Biochemical Methodology 이과목에서는단백질과핵산의분리, 동정과관련한생화학적, 분자생물학적연구기법과축산식품에잔류가능한동물용의약품과환경오염물질의각종분석기법에대하여그원리를강의한다. This course includes lectures on the priciples of biochemical and molecular biological analysis and identification of proteins and nucleic acids. The lectures are extended to the chemical analysis of veterinary drugs and environmental contaminants in animal products 약독물학생화학 Biochemical Pharmacology and Toxicology 이과목에서는이물질인약물과독물이생체에노출될경우흡수, 분포, 대사, 배설, 그리고작용기전에대하여비교생화학적관점에서강의한다. This course includes lectures on the priciples of absorbtion, distribution, metabolism, and elimination of xenobiotics such as drugs and toxicants that animals can

The lectures are extended to the mechanism of the action of xenobiotics from a comparative bichemical standpoint A 체액의생리학 Physiology of Body Fluid 본강좌에서는동물에서의수분수지, 전해질, 균형, 산염기균형의이론적배경과장해시의대책에대하여강의한다. This course will provide the theoretical aspects of water, eletrolytes, acid-base balance and the application of these principles to the general situation and in disturbance A 평활근생리학 Physiology of Smooth Muscle 본강좌에서는평활근의수축과이완기전및자율신경계, 호르몬, 각종약물, 세포내 2 차신호전달계가평활근에미치는조절작용에대하여강의한다. This course will cover calcium homeostosis and ionic channel functions in smooth muscles, and the regulation of smooth muscle contraction. This is followed by selected topics for studying autonomic neural functions, actions of hormones and drugs, and the mechanism of second messenger systems 수의약동학 Veterinary Pharmacokinetics 생체에서의약물의동태를분석하는기본이론및정상및질환동물의약물치료를위한약동학적지표의임상적응용및그통계분석에대한고찰에대하여하여소개하는과목이다. 특히, 조직잔류및안전휴약기간의설정및종이다른동물간의약동학적지표의외삽등도다루어진다. 강의자료 : Comparative pharmacokinetics (1999, J Riviere); Clinical pharmacokinetics (1995, M Roland & T Tozer). This course introduces the major pharmacokinetic models, the clinical application of pharmacokinetic parameters in normal and diseased animals, and their statistical analysis. The emphasis will be on the pharmacokinetic understanding of tissue residues, determination of withdrawal times, and extrapolation of pharmacokinetic parameters for different animal species. Leture materials include Comparative pharmacokinetics (1999, J Riviere) and Clinical pharmacokinetics (1995, M Roland & T Tozer) A 수의약리학특강 Tpoics in Veterinary Pharmacology 이과목에서는수의약리학분야의주요연구분야와연구기법에대하여최근의이론과현장적용사례를중심으로소개하고자한다. This course provides the basic concepts and practical experience in major research topics and techniques in the veterinary pharmacology via lectures and laboratory activity 수의임상신경과학 Veterinary Clinical Neroscience 이과목은중추신경계와중추신경계질환을이해하기위해기초적인신경과학지식과임상신경과학지식을모두포함한다. 신경세포수준에서부터중추신경의구조, 기능, 기능이상, 신경세포이식, 행동에관한고등기능까지기초신경과학에서부터임상신경과학을포함해서가르치고자한다. Clinical neurophysiology is the stuby of the functions of the nervous system in the clinical setting, for diagnostics, monitoring, etc, It utilizes techniques such aselectroencephalography (EEG), electromyography (EMG), somatosensory evokedpotentials (SSEP), motor evoked potentials (MEP), brainstem auditory evoked responses (BAER), etc 시각신경과학 Visual Neuroscience 동물의눈을통해외부의환경이대뇌로투영되면서각각의시각피질에서분석되는과정을알아본다. 다양한동물에서얻은결과를알아보겠으나특히원숭이나고양이시각피질에대해중점적으로알아본다. 또한본실험실에서준비된동물실험을통해대뇌시각피질신경세포를자극할수있는여러가지종류의자극을찾아낸다. In this seminar course, students will examine the neural bases of visual processing from each visual cortical area. Although the students will review research dealing with a variety of different kinds of animals, the focus will be on the vision of primates and cats. During experiments in the lab, several different kinds of visual stimuli are applied to find which stimulus shows good responses. 수의미생물학전공 (Vet. Microbiology Major) 동물의세균성전염병특론 Advanced Bacterial Diseases of Animals 본과목은동물에서국내 외적으로최근문제되는전염성질병의세균성원인체의분자, 생물학적, 면역학적특성, 역학, 발병기전등을바탕으로한진단및치료, 예방에대하여다룬다. This course will cover the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of important bacterial infectious diseases based on the molecular biological and immunological characteristics of bacterial agents, epidemiology, and pathogenesis 분자역학개론 General Molecular Epidemiology 본과목은질병발생양상을유전자분석방법에의한역학적상황을조사분석하기위한과목으로질병발생양상의조사분석을위한역학의기본적인이론과최신의분자생물학이론및기법의응용에대하여다룬다. This course provides basic concepts of epidemiology, molecular biological techniques, and their principles to analyze the pattern of diseases outbreaks. Also, this course covers how to connect classical epidemiology and recent molecular biological techniques

This course will provide the basic, molecular genetic, and immunological characteristics of causative agents and hosts. Also, it will provide the pathological and epidemiological characteristics of the diseases. The immune phenomenon on individuality as the basic life form means the relationship between self and self or self and environment. Though the modern immunolgy has achieved many advances with the development of molecular biology which is based on analytical reductionism, its limitation is well aware of by the difficulty of systemic approach to immune phenomena. To overcome current limitation of modern immunology, the general introduction on non-reductional understanding on immunity will be discussed at the class. In animal research, pathological analysis is the most important procedure for estimating the reaction mechanism of a new drug. As a result of recent achievements in mapping the human genome, scientists are in need of disease-specific research models. These animals serve as a more accurate model of human disease and, therefore, a better predictor of the potential success of new drug treatments for conditions such as diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, and many kinds of cancer which couldn t be cured until now. Spontaneous and induced mouse mutations are a critical resource in the characterization of previously uncloned genes of biological importance and oncogenes. Also, the analysis of phenotypic differences between strains has become important, for example, in dissecting the effects of genetic background. A mouse model of human disease or oncogene function is, however, of limited value unless properly characterized, and accurate phenotype assessment is the jewel in the crown of genetic manipulation. The purpose of managing laboratory animal diseases is to interpret the result scientifically, to prevent the zoonosis and to maintain laboratory animals in a good conditions. Since mice were used in genetical field first, biology and diseases of the mice were profoundly studied. Recently, many genetically engineered mice were developed and used for biomedicine. If we can not catch the biology of the mice or the disease state of the mice, we may not interpret the animal experiment results. When the animals were infected with infectious agents, many researcher may misunderstand the DNA chip interpretation and biochemical results. Therefore, the laboratory animals must be confirmed about disease state. This course has purpose of increasing the knowledge about diagnostic approaches and treatments for uncommon skin diseases on small animals which are not familiar to the general practitioners through discussion of the real cases in veterinary medical teaching hospital, Seoul National University which is absolutely referral hospital and their related previously published reports.
