DGIST는 지식창조형 글로벌 인재양성과 미래 융복합기술 창출이라는 목표를 추구하는 연구중심 대학으로서, KAIST 및 GIST와 더불어 국가에서 출연하여 설립한 과학기술계 특수대학 이라는 면에서는 동일하나, 학교와 더불어 연구원을 함께 가지고 있다는 것이 DGIST만의 특징입니다. 따라서 여러분은 학교에서 배운 기초 원천기술을 연구원에서 응용 상용기술화 하는 모든 과정을 경험하 는 매우 독창적인 교육과정을 거쳐 국가가 필요로 하는 글로벌 실용화 리더로 성장하게 될 것입니다. Despite this similarity with KAIST and GIST, DGIST is very unique in its structure: the nation s sole organization composed of university and research institute with a vision to be a worldleading convergence-research university. Therefore you will have chances to grow into a global leader through our distinguished system, which enables for you to work on applied research and commercialization of technologies you learned and developed during your degree programs focused on basic and fundamental research. DGIST will make a history. It is the Miracle of Han River for Korea to become one of developed countries from war-torn poorest country over the last half century, and the miracle originated from the science technology industrial complex in Daegu-Gyeongbuk region. In the 21st knowledge-based society, we need another miracle to develop Korea into a world-leading nation, and you will play an important role in here. I hope that you spread your wings of creativity at DGIST with responsibility and pride as heros and heroins of the miracle. You might face with various obstacles in the way to realize your dream. To overcome the obstacles and achieve your dreams, you should have a vision toward the nation and the world, undaunted passion for the vision, and, most of all, creative and convergent thinking skills. Classes designated by the president (e.g., research classes, cultural subjects) will be graded as S (Satisfactory) or U (Unsatisfactory) Grading System Policies Credit is awarded at the following minimum levels: at least D - and S. Fail : If a student receives a grade of F or U, the student s work in the course has been failing. Any students receiving a grade of F or U in the core courses (e.g., CR500, Management of Science & Technology Innovation) must repeat in order to receive credit. Withdrawal : Marked as W. Students must submit the Application Form for Course Withdrawal to the office in order to withdraw from a course after the withdraw deadline. In this case, a grade notation of W is automatically recorded on your transcript for that course. Incomplete : Marked as I. No credit will be given until the course is completed and a grade of F or U will be received. Students must check their grades with professors to get a final grade. Repeated Courses : Allowed to repeat courses with grades, below B+. Students may repeat each courses for one time only. Academic Warning If cumulative GPA drops below 2.5/4.3, students will be placed on academic warning. M.S. and Ph.D. students receiving academic warning in two consecutive periods of enrollment will be placed on academic probation. 29

Students terminated from military service must submit the notice of termination and return to school. This applies only within 1/4 of semester days. The leave of absence cannot be withdrawn if 1/4 of the semester has been completed. Returning Duration General leave: within application period for returning to school Military leave: within 1 year from discharge Students may return to school if the date of discharge is within 1/4 the semester days Procedure Obtain approval from supervising professor and head of department, and submit request form with supporting documents to the Educational Affairs Team Return upon discharge: Submit request form with notice of discharge or resident registration certificate Dropping Out, Expulsion, and Readmission Dropping Out Students cannot drop out without justifiable reasons In case of unavoidable reasons, the student must submit an application form and obtain approval from the president. Students who drop out must return all or part of scholarships. Expulsion Reasons for Expulsion 1. Those who do not return to school as scheduled 2. Those who fail to enroll and are not on a leave of absence 3. Graduate students who do not show any improvement after receiving two consecutive academic warnings 4. Those who do not complete the program after exceeding the maximum number of years of study 5. Reissue of ID card Submit the re-issuance form: Visit Educational Affairs Team and submit a re-issuance form. The other procedures are identical to those above. You can use various services (course registration, electronic approval, web disk, and others) with one log-in. 50 Student Support IT on Campus 웹메일 사용방법 본교의 메일시스템은 웹 기반 시스템으로 기본적인 웹메일 서비스를 제공 메일박스 저장용량은 기본 2GB, 개인자료실은 1G를 제공 시스템 접속 URL : 외부메일(아웃룩) 설정 방법 웹메일시스템은 아웃룩 및 스마트폰으로도 사용 가능. 지원하는 계정유형은 POP3, IMAP를 지원하며, 수신 메일서버와 발신 메일서버(SMTP)는 mail.dgist.ac.kr 로 동일함. 아웃룩에서는 기타설정 > 보내는 메일서버에서 보내는 메일서버(SMTP)인증 필요에 체크해야 메일 발송이 가능. 기타설정 > 고급에서 서버에 메시지 복사본 저장을 체크하면, pop3로 메일을 수신할 때 서버에 메일을 삭제하지 않고 저장해 둘 수 있음. 50

Students can use service on Student Portal System. Students can set up a link with Outlook Express (external mail address) Based on the POP3 protocol, web mail is accessible via Outlook Express and via a smart phone. Types of account available: POP3, IMAP The receiving account server and the outgoing account server (SMTP) are the same: mail.dgist. ac.kr Check Need Certification for Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) when setting up Outlook Express. You can save your mails by checking Save copy of message on server when receiving mails through POP3. 51
