1 Journal of the Korea Academia-Industrial cooperation Society Vol. 22, No. 2 pp , ISSN / eissn 정진은 1*, 전세훈 2 1 한국기술교육대학교기계공학부, 2 한국기술교육대학교대학원기계공학과 Turbine Efficiency Measurement of Pulsating Flow in a Twin Scroll Turbocharger Jin-Eun Chung 1*, Se-Hun Jeon 2 1 Department of Mechanical Engineering, Korea University of Education and Technology 2 Department of Mechanical Engineering, Graduate School, Korea University of Education and Technology 요약터터보과급은디젤엔진과가솔린엔진모두에서핵심기술이다. 특히가솔린엔진에서엔진다운사이징등다른제어기술과결합하여이산화탄소 (CO 2) 배출을감소시키는데효과적이다. 본연구에서는승용차용가솔린엔진에장착되는트윈스크롤터빈터보과급기에서맥동유동의터빈효율을측정하였다. 맥동생성장치가있는저온테스트벤치를제작하여맥동유동이있는비정상상태의압력과온도를측정하고터빈효율을산출하였다. 테스트벤치는공기압축기, 트윈스크롤터빈, 온도및압력측정장치등으로구성되었다. 실제승용차용엔진에서주로사용되는중저속엔진작동영역에해당하는맥동주파수 25.0 Hz와 33.3 Hz를공급하면서터보과급기회전속도를 60,000 rpm에서 100,000 rpm까지변화시키며측정을수행하였다. 이때압축비를 1.088에서 사이의값으로조정하였다. 이측정조건에서터빈효율은 0.517~0.544 값을보였다. 맥동주파수 33.3 Hz의경우, 터빈회전수 60,000 rpm에서터빈효율의변동은 7.7% 이나터빈회전수 100,000 rpm에서변동은 2.6% 로터빈회전수가증가함에따라맥동의영향은감소하였다. 맥동유동에서의터빈효율은정상유동터빈효율에비해터빈회전수 60,000 rpm 인경우 7.0%, 회전수 100,000 rpm 인경우 3.0% 낮은값을보이고있어맥동유동이터빈효율을악화시키는결과를보였으며이러한영향은터빈회전수가증가함에따라감소하였다. Abstract Turbocharging is becoming a key technology for both diesel and gasoline engines. Regarding gasoline engines, turbocharging can help reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions when used in conjunction with other technologies. This paper presents measurements of the turbine efficiency of pulsating flow in a twin-scroll turbocharger for gasoline engines. A cold gas test bench with a pulse generator was manufactured. The turbine efficiencies were calculated using the measured data of the instantaneous pressure and temperature of the inlet and exit of the turbine. The measurements were carried out at turbine speeds from 60,000 to 100,000 rpm under a pulsating flow of 25.0 Hz and 33.0 Hz. The turbine efficiencies ranged from to At the pulse frequency, 33.3 Hz, the variations in efficiency were 7.7% and 2.6% at turbine speeds of 60,000 rpm and 100,000 rpm, respectively. The turbine efficiency of the pulsating flow compared to those of steady flow was 7.0% and 3.0% lower at a turbine speed of 60,000 rpm and 100,000 rpm, respectively. The pulsating flow deteriorated the turbine efficiency, but the effects of pulsating flow decreased with increasing turbine speed. 2 1. 서론 2. 트윈스크롤터보과급기 자동차의구동장치관련하여큰변화가진행되고있는가운데, 디젤엔진은최근전자제어연료분사와향상된터보과급 (turbocharging) 기술을적용하여저연비와고출력을실현하고있다. 또한가솔린엔진은우수한후처리, 고출력과탁월한차량운전성을유지하면서이산화탄소배출량을감소시키기위하여연비향상이반드시필요하다. 이를위하여가장효과적인방법이엔진의크기를줄이는다운사이징 (down-sizing) 이다. 충전부스팅, 직접분사등기술과연결하여다운사이징을이용하면연비향상이가능하다 [1,2]. 이러한관점에서터보과급은디젤엔진과가솔린엔진에서핵심기술이되었다. 한편, 다운사이징이적용된가솔린엔진에서터보과급을성공적으로적용하기위하여배기가스온도증가, 저토크, 과도응답성문제등을해결하기위하여다양한기술이개발되고있다. 이러한기술중트원스크롤 (twin scroll) 터빈을사용한터보과급기는싱글스크롤터보과급기에비해터보래그 (turbo lag) 현상이감소하며따라서응답성능을개선하여저속에서고속까지넓은운전영역에서토크증대를실현할수있다 [3,4]. 터보과급기개발하는과정을살펴보면, 터보과급기의성능을측정하고측정된성능을바탕으로엔진과매칭을수행한다. 이때일반적으로정상유동조건에서의터빈성능을측정한다. 그러나배기가스의맥동유동 (pulsating flow) 은터보과급기성능에중요한영향을주기때문에터보과급기성능을평가할때비정상유동을반드시고려하여야한다. Wallace 등 [5], Winterbone 등 [6], 그리고 Kosuge 등 [7] 이비정상유동이터보과급기터빈의효율에주는영향에대해연구하였고, Marelli 등 [8] 은싱글스크롤터빈에대한비정상유동의터빈성능평가를수행하였고, Rajoo 등 [9] 은트윈스크롤가변터빈에대하여비정상유동터빈성능평가를수행하였다. 본연구에서는맥동유동이트윈스크롤터보과급기의터빈효율에미치는영향을분석하기위하여, 맥동발생장치를포함하는저온가스테스트벤치를제작하고, 순간압력과온도를측정하여터빈출력과터빈효율을산출하였다. 이때실제차량의주로사용되는중저속엔진회전수 1,500 rpm과 2,500 rpm에해당하는맥동주파수 25.0 Hz와 33.3 Hz를사용하였고, 터빈회전수는 60,000 rpm에서 100,00 rpm을설정하였다. 그리고맥동유동의터빈효율을정상유동의터빈효율과비교분석하였다. Fig. 1은 4기통엔진에적용된트윈스크롤터보과급기의터빈의구조와배기시스템과의연결을보여주고있다. 터빈로터블레이드로들어가는배기가스유로가전면부 (front side) 과후면부 (rear side) 로나누어져있다. 이때실린더 2번과 3번에서나온배기는전면부로, 실린더 1번과 4번에서나온배기는후면부로들어간다. Fig. 1. Twin scroll turbocharger[10] 3. 터보과급기성능측정 3.1 터빈성능측정장치 연구를수행하기위하여구성한테스트벤치는다음 Fig. 2와같이공기압축기, 트윈터빈스크롤, 맥동생성장치, 압력및온도센서로구성된다. Table 1은측정에사용된압력센서와온도센서의제원을보여준다. Fig. 2. 3 한국산학기술학회논문지제 22 권제 2 호, 2021 그리고맥동유동발생장치는맥동유동을발생하기위하여 Fig. 3에서보는바와같은상판 (upper plate) 과하판 (lower plate) 로구성된초퍼 (chopper plate) 장치를사용하였다. 하판을고정한상태에서상판을회전시켜개방된면적을변화시키므로압축공기의유량이변하며압력이변한다. 이때압축공기가통과하는면적이크랭크각에따라변하는대상엔진의배기밸브유효면적 (valve curtain area) 이되도록설계하였다. 이장치는초퍼판의가동여부에따라정상유동 (steady flow) 와비정상맥동유동 (unsteady pulsating flow) 을구현하는것이가능하다. 즉, 초퍼판을가동하지않으면정상유동, 가동하면비정상맥동유동을구현한다 맥동유동터빈효율맥동유동이있는트윈스크롤터보과급기에서터빈입구와출구에서압력과온도를측정하였다. 압력은순간압력과평균압력을측정하였으며정확한압력측정을위하여압력교정기기를사용하여교정작업을수행한후측정에사용하였다. 터보과급기와같이복잡한상황에서순간온도를측정하기어려워평균온도를측정하고측정한순간압력과다음관계식을이용하여계산하였다 [12]. Photos of upper plate(left) and lower plate(right) 3.2 터보과급기터빈효율 정상유동터빈효율 정상유동이있는트윈스크롤터보과급기에서터빈의등엔트로피 (isentropic) 터빈효율 은다음과같이정의한다 [11]. (1) Where, is real turbine power and is isentropic turbine power. 이때실제터빈출력과등엔트로피터빈출력은다음과같다. (2) (3) Where is turbine inlet temperature, is turbine outlet temperature, 는 turbine inlet total pressure, and is turbine outlet static pressure. 펄스가짧은시간간격으로구성되면, 등엔트로피터빈일은다음과같이표현된다. (6) 그리고실제터빈일은다음과같이실제순간터빈출력과순간터빈질량유량율의비로표현된다. (7) 3.2 실험조건 본연구에서는볼베어링이적용된 2.0 L 가솔린엔진용트윈스크롤터보과급기를대상으로웨이스트게이트는완전히닫힌상태에서냉각수는사용하는않고실험을진행하며실험조건은다음 Table 2와같다. 388

Table 3와같이각각터보과급기의회전수를고정하고목표로잡은압축기압력비의최소, 최대범위내에서압력비를변경하며실험을수행하였다. 먼저목표압축기회전수를도달하도록터빈공급유량을조절하였다. 그리고압축배압밸브를조절하여압축기의압축비를변화시켰다. 압축비가작은오차내에서고정될때터빈과압축기에대한데이터를수집하였다. 실험은맥동이없는정상유동과맥동이있는비정상유동조건으로나누어진행하였다. Turbocharger speeds and compressor pressure ratio Compressor pressure ratio Turbocharger speed (rpm) min. max. 60, , , , 측정결과 터빈회전수 60,000, 70,000, 90,000, 그리고 100,000 rpm, 맥동주파수 25.0 Hz와 33.0 Hz 에서터빈효율을산출하였으며회전수 60,000 rpm과 100,000 rpm 에서맥동유동의영향을분석하였다. Fig. 4는터빈회전수 60,000 rpm, 맥동주파수 25.0 Hz와 33.3 Hz에서순간터빈출력의주기변동을보여주고있다. 터빈에들어가는맥동유동에의하여터빈에서생산되는출력이주기시간에따라변하는형상을보이고있다. 맥동주파수 25.0 Hz인경우출력최대값은 1.22 kw, 최소값은 0.75 kw이며주파수 33.3 Hz인경우출력의최대값이 1.36 kw, 최소값이 0.40 kw로맥동주파수 33.3 Hz 인경우에변동이조금심하고최대값이 11.0 % 큰값을보이고있다. Instantaneous turbine power of twin scroll turbine at turbine speed 100,000 rpm 그리고 Fig. 5는터빈회전수 100,000 rpm, 맥동주파수 25.0 Hz와 33.3 Hz에서순간터빈출력의주기변동을보여주고있다. 터빈에들어가는맥동유동에의하여터빈에서생산되는출력이주기시간에따라변하는형상을보이고있다. 맥동주파수 25.0 Hz인경우출력의최대값은 5.84 kw, 최소값은 2.65 kw이며주파수 33.3 Hz인경우출력의최대값이 5.55 kw, 최소값이 2.71 kw로맥동주파수 33.3 Hz 인경우에변동이조금심하나, 최대값은 25.0 Hz에서 5.0 % 큰값을보이고있다. 전반적으로터빈회전수가증가함에따라맥동의영향이작아짐을보이고있다. Fig. 6은터빈회전수 600,000 rpm, 맥동주파수 25.0 Hz와 33.3 Hz에서블레이드속도비에대한맥동유동의터빈효율을정상유동의터빈효율과함께보이고있다. 맥동주파수 25.0 Hz인경우터빈효율의최소값은 0.528, 최대값은 0.544, 평균값 0.536, 변동 3.0 % 이며주파수 33.3 Hz인경우최소값은 0.514, 최대값은 389

5 한국산학기술학회논문지제 22 권제 2 호, , 평균값 0.535, 변동 7.7 % 으로산출되었다. 맥동주파수가증가함에따라터빈효율의평균값은유사하나변동폭이증가하고있다. 그리고터빈회전수 60,000 rpm에서정상유동에서의터빈효율은최소값 0.566, 최대값 0.586, 평균값 과비교하면, 맥동유동에서의터빈효율이평균값을기준으로 7.0 % 가량낮게산출되었다. 이러한결과는터보과급기에서맥동유동이터빈효율을악화시킨다는기존연구결과와일치한다 [12]. 고있다. 맥동주파수 25.0 Hz인경우터빈효율의최소값은 0.517, 최대값은 0.533, 평균값 0.525, 변동 3.0 % 이며주파수 33.3 Hz인경우최소값은 0.527, 최대값은 0.541, 평균값 0.534, 변동 2.6 % 으로산출되었다. 맥동주파수가증가함에따라터빈효율의평균값이약간증가하고있으며변동폭은터빈회전수 60,000 rpm에비하여작은결과를보이고있다. 그리고터빈회전수 100,000 rpm에서정상유동에서의터빈효율은최소값 0.526, 최대값 0.544, 평균값 과비교하면, 맥동유동에서의터빈효율이평균값을기준으로 1.0 % 가량낮게, 그리고동일한블레이드속도비에서는 3.0 % 가량낮은값을보이고있다. 5. 결론 Fig. 6. Comparison of turbine efficiencies of pulsating flow and the steady flow according to the blade speed ratio at 100,000 rpm Fig. 7은터빈회전수 100,000 rpm, 맥동주파수 25.0 Hz와 33.3 Hz에서블레이드속도비에대한맥동유동의터빈효율을정상유동의터빈효율과함께보이 맥동유동이트윈스크롤터보과급기의터빈효율에미치는영향을분석하기위하여맥동생성장치를포함하는테스트벤치를제작하고, 순간압력과온도를측정하고터빈효율을산출하고정상유동의터빈효율과비교하여다음과같은결론을얻었다. 1) 맥동생성장치를포함한저온가스테스트벤치는트윈스크롤터보과급기의맥동유동성능을측정하는데적절하였다. 2) 맥동유동이있는터보과급기의터빈효율은최소 0.517, 최대 0.544의값을보이고있으며터빈회전수가증가함에따라블레이드속도비가증가하고터빈효율은감소하고있다. 3) 맥동주파수 33.3 Hz 에서터빈회전수 60,000 rpm 에서터빈효율의변동폭은 7.7 % 이나터빈회전수 100,000 rpm 에서는 2.6 % 를보이고있어맥동유동이터빈효율변동에미치는영향은터빈회전수가낮은영역에서는크게나타났으며터빈회전수증가함에따라작아지는결과를보인다. 4) 맥동유동에서의터빈효율은정상유동에서의터빈효율에비해터빈회전수 60,000 rpm에서는 7.0%, 100,000 rpm에서는에서 3.0 % 낮은값이산출되어맥동유동이터빈효율을악화시키는결과를보였다. 그러나이러한영향은터빈회전수가증가함에따라감소하였다. 390
