1 (K11-1-1) 광대역특성을가지는고출력펄스전력증폭기구현에 관한연구 이경학 * 정회원 A Study on the Implementation of High Power Pulse Amplifier with wide-band characteristic Kyounghak Lee * Regular Member 요약본논문에서는 L-Band 대역의항행안전시설 (DME, TACAN) 에적용가능한광대역 High power pulsed amplifier를구현하였다. L-Band 대역의항행안전시설의특성상구현된 SSPA는매우높은출력과선형성, 효율특성을요구한다. 이에본논문에서는변형된 class F 기법을이용하여효율특성을개선하였다. 또한 hybrid coupler 를이용한 Balance 구조와구동부증폭단의비선형특성을이용한 anti-phase 기법, 출력부 harmonic trap 등을이용하여선형특성을개선하였다. 구현된 SSPA는약 300MHz 의대역폭을가지며, 1.5KW 출력과 55% 의효율특성을보였다. Key Words : SSPA, Pulse SSPA, High Power Amplifier, NAVAID ABSTRACT In this paper, High Power Pulsed Amplifier with wide-band characteristic is implemented for L-band Navigational Aid(NAVAID). Due to the characteristics of L-Band NAVAID, implemented SSPA is demanded characteristics of high RF power, high linearity and high efficiency. Therefore, in this paper, efficiency characteristic is improved by modified class F technique. And linearity characteristic is improved by balance structure using hybrid coupler, 2 nd & 3 rd harmonic trap and anti-phase technique using non-linear characteristics of drive amplifier. Implemented SSPA shows that bandwidth of 300MHz, RF Output power of 1.5KW and efficiency of 55%. I. 서론 최근군에서사용된기술들을민간에서사용하기위해공유하려는시도가증가하고있다. 이러한기술들을여러분야에서추진되고있는데, 그중대표적인기술이펄스전력증폭기를이용한레이더와같은기술들이다. 위에서설명한것과같이펄스전력증폭기를이용한기술로대표적인것은레이더분야이다. 현재민과군의공유하고있는레이더관련기술은 L-band, S-band, x-band, Ku-band, Ka-band 대역에서사용되고있다. 이들대역은민과군이이동통신, 항공기나선박등에대한관제용, 기상, 위성통신및방송등다양한분야에서사용되어지고있다. 기존의고출력 RF 시스템은 1990년대말까지도 TWT(Treveling Wave Tube), 마그네트론 (Magnetron), 클라이스트론 (Klyst-ron) 과같은진공관형태의증폭소자를사용하여매우높은전압을인가시켜구동하였다. 이러한형태의기존시스템은부피가크고수명이짧은단점을가진다 년대에는이러한단점을보완하고자 SSPA(Solidstate Power Amplifier) 기술을연구 개발해오고있다. SSPA는수명시간, 유지보수및증폭기동작관점에서우수한특성을가진다. 또한광대역주파수구현및디지털신호처리등의강력한장점을가진다 [1, 2]. 항행안전시설은항공기의안전한항행 ( 이륙및착륙포함 ) 을위한설비이다. 그중 L-Band 의항행안전시설은항행중인항공기에전파를이용하여정보를전달하는항법보조시스템역할을한다. 특히 L-band 대역을사용하는항행안 이논문은 2015 년도대학교학술연구비지원을받아수행된연구결과임 * 남서울대학교산학협력단 (khlee@nsu.ac.kr) 접수일자 : 2016 년 2 월 03 일, 최종게재확정일자 : 2016 년 03 월 04 일 1

2 전시설은그시스템의용도와특성상고출력의송출신호와주파수대역의약 25% 사용하는광대역특성을요구한다. L-Band 의항행안전시설 (DME, TACAN 등 ) 의신호규격은국제민간항공기구 (ICAO) 및미군표준 (MIL-STD) 을따른다. 보다정확한정보전달을위하여가우시안 (Gaussian) 펄스를사용하며, 이는신호및정보분석을위하여일정이상의선형성을요구한다. 이에본연구에서는 L-Band 대역의광대역 1.5kW급가우시안펄스전력증폭기를구현하였다. Ⅱ. Theory Class F 증폭기는 harmonic 제어회로가전류파형과전압파형에서불필요한 harmonic 성분들을제거함으로써효율특성을개선하는메카니즘을가진다. 전류파형에서전압파형이소자에유기되어전력소모가없기위해서는출력단의각고조파들에식 (1), (2) 와같은부하가연결되어야한다 [6-8]. (1) (2) (3) 형태로가져갈수도있지만이경우 lumped 소자의손실로인해출력단의 loss가증가하게된다. 본논문에서는 transmission line을사용하여각 harmonic에대해 impedance 를 transformation 함으로써출력단의손실을줄이고 harmonic 제어가소자의전류원뒤에서이루어지도록하였다 [6-8]. 그림 1은 transmission line을사용해 3차 harmonic 까지제어하는회로를보여주고있다. 그림 1(a) 의이상적인경우 2차 harmonic에대해 λ/4 short stub를사용해 short를잡고 3차 harmonic에대해 λ/12 open stub와 λ/12 line을사용해 open 시킨다. 기본파에대해서는 Ropt' 의부하임피던스를달아서 harmonic제어회로앞에서바라본임피던스가 Ropt 가되게한다. 그러나그림 1(a) 의 harmonic 제어회로는소자의기생성분들을보상할수없기때문에 class F 증폭기를설계했을때 harmonic 제어가올바르게이루어지지않는다. 그림 1(b) 의실제적인경우에서는소자의기생성분들중 harmonic 제어를하는데있어서가장문제가되는소자의출력 capacitance 성분과 harmonic 제어회로의크기를보상하기위해 compensation line를추가하였다. 추가적인 compensation line으로인해그림 1(b) 의경우에는 λ/4 short stub와 λ/12 line은원래의길이보다짧아진 λ /4 short stub 와 λ /12 line으로설계함으로써 harmonic 제어가올바르게이루어질수있도록해야한다. 은짝수고조파들에대한부하, 은홀수고조파들에대한부하이고 는기본파에대한부하임피던스이다. 기본파를제외한 odd harmonic과 even harmonic의전력은식 (3) 의출력임피던스조건에의해이상적인경우출력에나타나지않는다. 이때최대출력전력 ( ) 과드레인효율 () 은식 (4) 과같다. (a) harmonic 제어회로 (4) 이때얻어진최대전력은 Class-A 또는 Class-B 동작증폭기보다 1.27배크며효율도 100% 로가장우수하다. 그러므로높은효율을필요로하는전력증폭기의구현에는 Class-F 동작이적절하다. 그러나현실적으로모든 harmonic을제어하는것이불가능하므로회로의복잡성과효율을 trade-off해서 3차 harmonic까지제어하는형태가일반적이다. Harmonic 제어회로를 lumped 소자를사용하여공진기 (b) 변형된 harmonic 제어회로그림 1. 증폭기의 harmonic 제어를위한회로일반적으로전력증폭기설계시각각의증폭기특성이최대전력또는최적화된선형화특성을갖도록적용한다. 그러나이방법의경우개선량이제한되어있어서제품화시에는 feedforward 같은선형화회로를추가해야한다. 또한광대역폭을갖는대전력증폭기의경우, 추가회로를사용하는기존선형화방식은고출력, 광대역특성을시키려면크기 2

3 광대역특성을가지는고출력펄스전력증폭기구현에관한연구 가커지고비용이많이든다. 본논문에서적용한선형화방법은그림 2와같이추가적인선형화회로없이종단증폭기의왜곡특성을보상할수있도록구동단증폭기의왜곡특성을종단증폭기의왜곡특성과의역위상 (Anti-phase) 이되도록설계하는것이다. 이때구동증폭기와종단증폭기의개별적선형화특성은의미가없으며, 상호연결하여결합되었을때에나타나선형화특성이중요하다 [9, 10]. harmonic trap으로구성되어있다. 위그림 3은 SSPA의설계구조를나타낸다. High Power SSPA 구현 다음표 1은항행안전시설 (DME 등 ) 에서요구하는성능 을고려하여작성한 SSPA의사양이다. 표 1의사양은국제 민간항공기구와미군의표준에의거하여작성되었으며, 군 과민에서공용으로사용이가능하다. 표. 1 SSPA 사양 구 분 사양 Peak Power 1.5kW Frequency 960 ~ 1220 MHz (260MHz) Stability 0.02% Efficiency 50% pulse spectrum 0.8MHz 2MHz Rise time : 2.0 ± 0.25 μs Pulse shape Fall time : 2.5 ± 0.5 μs Duration : 3.5 ± 0.5 μs Pulse type Gaussian pulse 설계된 SSPA의전체이득은약 28dB이며, 최종 stage는 Integra 사의 600W 급 L-Band 증폭소자 4개를사용하였다. 최종출력결합과분배를위해하이브리드커플러를이용하였다 [3-5]. 또한, 입력단과출력단에구현된전력증폭기의상태감시를위해방향성결합기를사용하였다. 방향성결합기를통하여검출된상태정보를 Programmable device를통하여분석하고, 분석된정보를신호발생단에전달하여신호상태를보정한다. 또한출력단의 Open 상태를고려하여, 서큘레이터를삽입하였다. L-Band 항행안전시설의 SSPA는고출력을요구하지만, 동시에높은선형성을요구한다. 특히가우스안펄스를신호원으로사용하기때문에높은선형성은필수적이다. 따라서최종 stage의각증폭소자는광대역특성과선형성, 고출력특성을고려하여정합회로와하모닉트랩을삽입하였다. 또한펄스열드룹 (pulse train droop) 방지를위하여각증폭소자의출력부에전해질캐패시터를이용하였다. 그림 4는제작된 SSPA의실물도이다. 위표 1의사양을바탕으로변형된 F급발란스구조를이용하여 SSPA를설계하였다. SSPA의최종출력은약 1.5kW (61.7dBm) 으로총 3 stage 로구성된다. 각 stage의증폭소자들은 zero bias와 harmonic 제어회로를적용한 F급전력증폭기구성과최종 그림 4. High Power SSPA 실물도 3

4 Ⅲ. 측정 다음 5는구현된 SSPA의성능측정을위해구성한측정환경이다. (a) 1213 MHz 그림 5. 측정을위한장비구성도 주파수와 RF spectrum 을측정하기위하여 spectrum analyzer를사용하였고, 최종출력확인을위하여 Power meter 를이용하였다. 또한 pulse shape 측정을위하여 oscilloscope를사용하였다. 그림 6과 7은주파수안정도와해당주파수별 RF spectrum 을측정한결과이다. RF 성능측정은해당주파수중대표적인주파수를 6가지를선택하여측정하였다. 측정결과표 1에서요구하는사양을충분히함을볼수있었다. 주파수안정도측면에서는앞쪽주파수대역에서는약 6kHz가량의편차가나타났고, (b) RF 1213 MHz그림 7. RF 1213MHz뒤쪽주파수대역에서는 12kHz가량의편차가발생되었다. 이는약 % 가량의주파수편차즉주파수안정도를보인다. 또한, RF spectrum 특성의경우요구사양을충분이함을확인할수있다. 이는발란스구조와하모닉트랩, 드라이브단의비선형성을이용한선형성개선방법을통해 F급전력증폭기에서나타나는비선형성을일부개선되었음을확인할수있었다. 그림 8은 pulse shape 특성을측정한결과이다. 위의 RF 특성과마찬가지로 Rise time, Fall time 및 duration 의측정결과항행안전시설에서요구하는사양에부합하는것을확인할수있다.
