Abstract In these days, technologies of virtual reality (VR) and of augmented reality (AR) have applied to diverse areas such as medicine, defense, education that are closely related to real-life practice. In contrast to the previous applications of game or sports, the technologies of VR and AR tends to expand the areas of applications according to development of the imaging or video techniques. This paper introduces VR and AR techniques and some examples of applications. In addition, this paper introduces how the differences between VR and AR technologies affect to the applications of broadcasting systems. Application of augmented reality to a broadcasting system. 크기, 위치, 움직임 패턴 등을 고려하여 가상의 물체 또는 인물을 합성하고 표현해야 하므로 정확한 추적기술이 필요 하다. 이러한 추적기술의 완성도를 높이기 위해서는 소프 트웨어 기술과 더불어 위치를 추적하고 위치정보를 실시간 으로 획득할 때 필요한 계산량을 소화할 수 있는 하드웨어 가 필요하다. 이동통신 기반시설 및 기반기술을 활용하여 위치를 탐지하는 방식을 활용하거나 영상의 3차원 좌표를 획득하여 추적하는 방식을 적용할 수 있다(위치추적 기술 을 기반으로 한 증강현실 기술을 적용한 예시는 그림 1에 나타나 있다 ). 전자의 경우는 통신신호의 품질에 따라 결 과의 정확도가 달라지는 특징이 있고, 후자의 경우는 3차원 좌표를 획득하는 알고리즘의 정확도에 따라 결과의 정확도 가 달라지는 특징이 있다 특히 증강현실에서 사용하는 카메라가 1개일 경우 3차원 좌표의 획득은 이론상 불가능하다. 그러므로 마커를 활용 하거나, 획득되는 영상의 프레임들을 활용하는 (Visual SLAM) 방식을 활용한다. 방송기술의 변화에 가장 큰 영향을 주는 것은 사용자와 방송환경과의 상호작용일 것이다. 대부분의 방송은 일방적 으로 정보를 전달받는 사용자의 입장이 AR 기술의 적용으 로 인해 상호작용을 가능하게 하는 방송으로 변화를 가져 가야 할 것이다. 현재 AR이 적용되고 있는 대표적인 방송 분야는 일기예보, 스포츠, 선거방송, 역사 다큐멘터리 등이 다. 미국의 ABC, CBS, 영국의 BBC, 일본 아사히 TV, NHK, 한국의 KBS, MBC, SBS 등 대부분의 방송사에서 AR 기술을 방송 또는 광고에 적용하였다. 국내에서는 1990년대 후반 선거방송에서 AR 기술을 적용하였고, 2010 [9] [10] [11] 년부터 가상광고가 허용되기 시작하면서 광고 분야에서도 AR 기술이 적용되었다. 특히 증강현실 기술을 적용한 광 고 및 홍보분야는 효과가 입증되어 이미 상용화가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 그러나 실시간으로 AR 기술을 적용한 방송 을 보여줄 만큼의 속도와 기술에 한계를 보이고 있어, 향후 소프트웨어 및 하드웨어 두가지의 동시적인 발전이 요구된 다. 모바일 기술의 발전으로 인해, 모바일 방송 분야에서의 AR 적용은 시청자와 방송제공자 간의 상호작용이 가능하 도록 만드는 기술이 주목을 받을 것으로 예상한다. [12] Ⅳ. 국내 방송사 중심의 가상/증강현실기술 활용 방향 탐색 : 심층인터뷰 차세대 방송 제작을 위한 가상 및 증강현실 기술의 실제 적용 사례 및 향후 활용 방향에 대해 탐구하고자 문헌조사 방식이 아닌 심층 인터뷰를 통하여 실제로 국내 지상파 방 송사를 중심으로 가상 및 증강현실 기술 활용 사례를 들어 보고 향후 적용 방향에 대해 알아보고자 한다. 연구문제 1: 가상 및 증강현실 기술의 실제 적용 사례와 문제점 연구문제 2: 가상 및 증강현실 기술의 방송 활용 가능성 및 전략적 적용 방안 위의 연구문제를 해결하기 위해 본 연구는 질적 심층인 터뷰 방법 [13]을 채택하였으며, 이는 질적 연구의 인터뷰
