1 제144호 April 10 Vol. 144 단신기사 1 출판 기술, 과거는 잊어라 로랑 갈리셰(Laurent Galichet) ISO 출판부 팀장은 보직을 맡은 순간부터 과업의 중대함을 느꼈다. 60 년 동안 이어져 온 종이 인쇄 방식을 바꾸는 일은 하루 이틀에 이루어질 사안이 아니었기 때문이다. 그 러나 그의 결단과 부단한 노력은 팀원들의 지지를 이끌어내는 데 성공했고 이후 ISO 표준 자료의 출판 방식은 혁신적으로 변화되었다. 그의 만만치 않았던 혁신 스토리에 대해 들어보자. 지난 10년 동안 출판업에 종사하였지만, 인쇄기 발명 이후 지금처럼 획기적인 발명의 순간은 없을 것 입니다. 바야흐로 우리는 정보의 홍수 시대에 살고 있습니다. 어떻게 하면 일관성 있고 정확하게 공신력 있는 정보를 제공할 수 있을까 가 핵심 과제로 떠오른 것입니다. 이제 정보는 더 이상 인쇄기에만 의존하지 않고 멀티미디어를 이용한 다양한 매체를 통해 전달되고 있습니다. 오늘날 소비자들은 PDF, e-book 및 비디오 동영상 등 각종 온라인 플랫폼을 통해 어디서든지 원하는 정보를 손쉽게 접할 수 있게 되었습니다. 몇 년 전만 해도 각 분야 전문가에 의해 취합된 ISO 개발 콘텐츠는 인쇄자료와 PDF를 통해 배포되었고, 이러한 방식은 꽤 오랫동안 지속되었습니다. 그러나 이제 시대는 변했고 전문가들 중 일부는 IT와 인터 넷 기술 발달에 완전히 적응하여 XML 기술을 기반으로 한 싱글소싱방식 (single-source publishing: 하나의 컨텐츠를 여러 용도에 맞도록 출판하는 방법)을 통해 정보를 전달하고 있습니다. XML 기술은 그야말로 출판 업무의 판도를 뒤집었습니다. 싱글소싱으로 PDF, e-book, ISO 온라인 브 라우징 플랫폼(OBP) 자료가 모두 단일 파일에서 추출될 수 있게 되었으니까요. 우리는 ISO의 모든 표 준작업 및 기존 카탈로그를 XML로 교체하는 작업을 시작하였습니다. 왜 이렇게까지 하느냐고요? 이제 ISO 표준을 찾아볼 때 각기 다른 문서 자료를 찾아볼 필요 없이 보다 편리한 방식으로 대량의 데이터를 한꺼번에 볼 수 있는 방법이 생겼으니까요. 그렇지만 이 방식 역시 곧 구식이 될 것입니다. 우리의 다음 목표는 정보에 의미를 부여하는 일인데, 어 떻게 하면 검색어의 키워드를 개념과 논리에 맞게 구현할 수 있는가와 관련되어 있습니다. 1

3 단신기사 2 ISO, 동아프리카 개발계획 협정 체결 동아프리카 8개국의 표준화 개발 인프라 강화를 위한 2개년 개발계획이 본격적으로 착수되었다. ISO와 핀란드 정부는 2011년-2015년 ISO 개발도상국 개발 계획의 주요 원칙을 골자로 한 개발 협력 협정을 체결하였다. 이번 개발계획은 기술적 지원을 통해 개발도상국 회원기관들이 지역 및 국가, 나아가 국제 무대에서 제 역할을 성공적으로 해낼 수 있도록 돕는 것을 목표로 하고 있다. 이를 위해 롭 스틸(Rob Steele) ISO 사무총장은 2013년말 우간다 회의에 참석하여 8개 국가 표준화기 관 대표들과 핀란드 외무부 관계자와 함께 계획의 실행 및 관리, 평가 방법을 논의하였다. 우간다 회의 이후 공동 협력 위원회(Joint Coordination Committee)가 설립되어 각국의 개발 계획을 실행하고 관리하여 모든 국가 표준화기구가 이익을 볼 수 있도록 노력하고 있다. 이러한 ISO의 개발 계획은 회원들의 기부로 이루어지고 있으며 ISO 사무총장은 회원들의 자발적이고 지속적인 지지를 당부했다. *출처: ISO Focus+ 3, 4월호 *번역: 한국표준협회 글로벌표준화센터 3
