Conclusion - Modern society and filial piety practice - Abstract In the traditional society, filial piety provided basic frame of human ethics. It was a fundamental of self practice, management of house, governing nation and peaceful ruling of world as it was seen in Xiao Jing (). And its influence made establishment of Fu Mu En Zhong Jing ( ) in Buddhism and Taoism. This tradition of filial piety thought has faced the time to establishing new coordinates in rapidly changed modern and contemporary. According to such trend, it has to be paid attention that the filial piety of Won-Buddhism, namely the grace of parents is one of Fourfold Grace and establish core of Il-Won-Sang tenet. Although Buddhism also has Fourfold Grace and the grace of parents, however, those are significantly different in theoretical dimension to those of Won-Buddhism. Since Won-Buddhism considers Il-Won, the fundamental truth as equal as Fourfold Grace, its doctrinal status can be compared with Four Noble Truth which is the core of the dependent origination thought of Buddhism. The Grace means a life relation which can not live without it. Our existence itself is the indebtedness to parents, and the gratitude of it is necessary ethical behavior. The gratitude behavior is not only limited to present parents, but also extend and develop to the society by penetrating view on eternal life. Protect self-powerless is such an ethics. A clue to new interpretation of filial piety in contemporary society is suggested from this tenet. Reference Received : 17 September, 2001. Revised : 07-25 November, 2011.
