4 What is Bluetooth wireless technology? Bluetooth wireless technology is a short-range wireless technology that enables wireless data communication between digital devices, such as a computer or digital camera. Bluetooth wireless technology operates within a range of about 10 metres. Connecting two devices as necessary is common, but some devices can be connected to multiple devices at the same time. You do not need to use a cable for connection, nor is it necessary for the devices to face one another, such is the case with infrared technology. For example, you can use such a device in a bag or pocket. Bluetooth standard is an international standard supported by thousands of companies all over the world, and employed by various companies worldwide. Communication System and Compatible Bluetooth Profiles of the unit Profile is standardization of the function for each Bluetooth device specification. The unit supports the following Bluetooth version and profiles: Communication System: Bluetooth Specification version EDR* 1 Compatible Bluetooth Profiles: A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile): Transmitting or receiving audio content of high-quality. AVRCP (Audio Video Remote Control Profile): Controlling A/V equipment; pausing, stopping, or starting playback, etc. HSP (Headset Profile)* 2 : Talking on the phone/operating the phone. HFP (Hands-free Profile)* 2 : Talking on the phone/operating the phone by hands-free. * 1 Enhanced Data Rate * 2 When you use a Bluetooth mobile phone supported by both HFP and HSP, set to HFP. Notes To be able to use the Bluetooth function, the Bluetooth device to be connected requires the same profile as the unit s. Note also that even if the same profile exists, devices may vary in function depending on their specifications. Due to the characteristic of Bluetooth wireless technology, the sound played on the unit is slightly delayed from the sound played on the Bluetooth device during talking on the telephone or listening to the music. 4 GB

6 3 steps to Bluetooth function Pairing First, register ( pair ) a Bluetooth device (mobile phone, etc.) and the unit with each other. Once pairing is established, there is no need for pairing again. 9 About the HOME menu You can display the HOME menu by pressing and holding the BACK /HOME button of the unit for about 2 seconds. The HOME menu is the starting point to pair, play audio, and change settings. HOME menu Bluetooth FM Music Phone Call Settings Displays the Bluetooth function menu. Plays the FM radio. Plays songs in the Bluetooth device. Displays the phone call function menu. Displays the settings menu of Bluetooth, FM, or the unit. About operation of the HOME menu When menu items appear on the HOME menu, press the / button to select an item, and then press the button to confirm. You can return to the previous menu by pressing the BACK/HOME button, and you can always return to the HOME menu by pressing and holding it for about 2 seconds. The following illustration shows an example for setting the display brightness on (Settings) of the HOME menu. Select (Settings), and then press the button to confirm. Select Brightness, and then press the button to confirm. Select a brightness level, and then press the button to confirm. Press the BACK/HOME button. Press and hold the BACK/HOME button for about 2 seconds. 9 GB

11 Charging the unit The unit contains a rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery, which should be charged before using for the first time. 1 Open the cover of the USB connector. 2 Connect the supplied USB cable to the unit. When connecting, insert the connector with facing up. Charging starts when the unit and the computer are connected. Make sure that the indicator (red) lights up. Charging is completed in about 3 hours* and the indicator (red) goes off automatically. * Time required for empty battery to recharge. Notes If the unit is not used for a long time, the indicator (red) may not light up when you connect the USB cable to charge the unit. In this case, do not disconnect the USB cable from the unit and wait until the indicator (red) lights up. When you close the cover of the USB connector after charging, push the cover thoroughly until the tab is full inserted. For system requirements for a personal computer that can charge the battery using USB, see System requirements for battery charge using USB (page 41). Tips If the USB cable is connected to a computer while the unit is turned on, the unit will be turned off automatically. The unit cannot be turned on while charging. 11 GB

12 Caution If the unit detects a problem while charging, the indicator (red) may turn off, although charging is not complete. Check for the following causes: Ambient temperature exceeds the range of 0 C 40 C. There is a problem with the battery. In this case, charge again within the above-mentioned temperature range. If the problem persists, consult your nearest Sony dealer. Notes If the battery is not used for a long time, the battery may be quickly depleted; however, after a few recharges, battery life will improve. If the life of the built-in rechargeable battery drops to half the normal length, the battery should be replaced. Consult your nearest Sony dealer for replacement of the rechargeable battery. Avoid exposure to temperature extremes, direct sunlight, moisture, sand, dust or mechanical shock. Never leave in a car parked in the sun. Use only the supplied USB cable. Do not use any other USB cable. If the computer enters into hibernation mode while connected to the unit, charging will not be completed properly. Check the setting of the computer before charging. The indicator (red) will go off automatically even if the computer enters into hibernation mode. Charge the unit again in this case. Connect directly to a computer using the supplied USB cable. Charging will not be completed properly by an indirect connection, such as via a USB hub. Checking the remaining battery The remaining battery indicator is displayed while the unit is turned on. 13 Pairing What is pairing? Bluetooth devices need to be paired with each other beforehand. Once Bluetooth devices are paired, there is no need for pairing again, except in the following cases: Pairing information is deleted after repair, etc. When you attempt to pair with 9 or more devices. The unit can be paired with up to 8 devices; if a new device is paired after 8 devices have been paired, the device whose latest connection time is the oldest among the 8 paired devices is replaced by the new one. When recognition of the unit by the device to be connected is deleted. When the unit is initialized on Initialize of (Settings) (page 30). All pairing information is deleted. Procedures of pairing BACK/HOME button button POWER button / button 1 Press and hold the POWER button for about 2 seconds while the unit is turned off. Power On appears on the display as the indicator (blue) flashes twice, and then the unit turns on. 2 Place the Bluetooth device within 1 m of the unit. 3 Press the / button to select (Bluetooth), and then press the button to confirm. When you pair the unit and a Bluetooth device for the first time, Pairing is displayed as the function name of the icon. Proceed to step 5 after selecting (Pairing) and pressing the button to confirm. 4 Press the button to confirm when Pairing is selected. Continued 13 GB

14 5 Press the / button to select OK, and then press the button to confirm. After Pairing appears on the display and the indicator (blue) and indicator (red) flash alternately, the unit enters into pairing mode. Tip You can stop pairing by pressing the BACK/HOME button while in pairing mode. Note If pairing is not established within about 5 minutes, pairing mode will be cancelled. In this case, start over from step 3. 6 Perform pairing procedure on the Bluetooth device to detect the unit. The list of detected devices appears on the display of the Bluetooth device. The unit is displayed as DRC-BT60. If DRC-BT60 is not displayed, detect the unit again on the Bluetooth device. Notes For details, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the Bluetooth device. When pairing with a Bluetooth device that cannot display a list of detected devices or that has no display, you may pair the device by setting both the unit and the Bluetooth device to pairing mode. At this time, if passkey is set besides 0000 on the Bluetooth device, pairing cannot be performed with the unit. 7 Select DRC-BT60 on the display of the Bluetooth device. 8 If passkey* input is required on the display of a Bluetooth device, input The Bluetooth device name appears on the display, and the indicator (blue) flashes slowly. When returning to the HOME menu, pairing is complete. The message standing for Pairing complete appears on the display of some Bluetooth devices. If pairing fails, Pairing Failed appears on the display, and the screen returns to the HOME menu. * Passkey may be called Passcode, PIN code, PIN number, or Password. Note Passkey may not be required depending on the connected Bluetooth device. For details, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the Bluetooth device. 9 Start the Bluetooth connection from the Bluetooth device. The unit memorises the device as the last connected device. Some Bluetooth devices may connect with the unit automatically when pairing is complete. Tips To pair with other Bluetooth devices, repeat steps 3 to 8 for each device. To delete all pairing information, see Managing the paired Bluetooth device (page 31). 14 GB

15 Wearing the unit 1 Connect the headphones (supplied) to the unit. 2 Clip the unit to a pocket, etc., of your clothes and then wear the headphones. Wear the earphone marked in your left ear, and the one marked in your right ear. How to install the earbuds correctly If the earbuds do not fit your ears correctly, low-bass sound may not be heard. To enjoy better sound quality, change the earbuds to another size, or adjust the earbuds position to sit on your ears comfortably and fit your ears snugly. If the earbuds do not fit your ears, try another size. Confirm the size of the earbuds by checking the colour inside. When you change the earbuds, install them firmly on the headphones to prevent the earbud from detaching and remaining in your ear. Tip You can attach the unit upside down to a pocket of your clothing by turning the clip over. 15 GB

17 OPERATING THE UNIT Listening to music VOL+/ button button POWER button / button The unit supports SCMS-T content protection. You can enjoy music, etc., from a device such as a mobile phone or portable TV that supports SCMS-T content protection. Check the following before operating the unit. The Bluetooth device is turned on. Pairing of the unit and the Bluetooth device is complete. The Bluetooth device supports the transmitting music function (profile: A2DP*). * For details on profiles, see page 4. 1 Press and hold the POWER button for about 2 seconds while the unit is turned off. Power On appears on the display as the indicator (blue) flashes twice, and then the unit turns on. Note After the unit is turned on, the unit attempts to connect to the last connected Bluetooth device automatically with HFP or HSP. When not calling with the unit, do not make the last connected Bluetooth device ready for HFP or HSP connection. To make or receive a call while playing back music, see page Make the Bluetooth connection (A2DP) from a Bluetooth device to the unit. appears on the display. 18 Notes When you play music by connecting the unit to a Bluetooth device using HSP, sound quality will not be high. For better sound, change the Bluetooth connection to A2DP by operating the Bluetooth device. If the unit is turned off while an A2DP Bluetooth connection is established, operate the unit again from step 1 to make the A2DP Bluetooth connection again. Music playback screen Playback status* Playback status of the Bluetooth device is displayed. Video Mode icon If you set Video Mode to On, this icon is displayed (page 29). * If the Bluetooth device does not support the notice function of playback status (supported profile: AVRCP Ver.1.3 or later), the playback status is not displayed. To adjust the volume Press the VOL+/ button while listening to music to adjust the volume. Tips Depending on the connected device, it may be necessary to adjust the volume on the connected device as well. Volume for calling, listening to music and FM radio can be adjusted independently. Even if you change the volume while calling or listening to FM radio, the volume for music playback does not change. Note You cannot adjust the volume of the Bluetooth device by pressing the VOL+/ button. To stop use 1 Terminate the Bluetooth connection by operating the Bluetooth device. 2 Press and hold the POWER button for about 2 seconds. Power Off appears on the display as the indicator (blue) lights up, and then the unit turns off. 19 Controlling the audio device AVRCP If the Bluetooth audio device connected with the unit supports AVRCP, you can control by using the unit buttons. Refer to the operating instructions supplied with the Bluetooth device on how to operate it. Note Operation of the Bluetooth connecting device by the unit will vary depending on its specification. Pairing of the unit and the Bluetooth mobile phone is complete. 1 Press and hold the POWER button for about 2 seconds while the unit is turned off. Power On appears on the display as the indicator (blue) flashes twice, and then the unit turns on. The unit tries to connect to the last Bluetooth mobile phone that was used. Tip The unit will stop trying to connect to the Bluetooth mobile phone after 1 minute. In such a case, press the button to try to connect again. When the unit does not connect to a Bluetooth mobile phone automatically You can make a connection by operating Bluetooth mobile phone or by operating the unit to connect the last connected Bluetooth device. To make a connection by operating Bluetooth mobile phone 1 Make the Bluetooth connection (HFP or HSP*) from the Bluetooth mobile phone to the unit. Refer to the manual supplied with your Bluetooth mobile phone for operation details. The list of recognised devices appears on the display of the Bluetooth mobile phone. The unit is displayed as DRC-BT60. When you use the Bluetooth mobile phone features both HFP and HSP, set to HFP. Note When connecting to a Bluetooth mobile phone which is different from the last connected one, make the connection following the above procedure. * For details on profiles, see page GB

21 To make a connection with the last connected Bluetooth device by operating the unit 1 Press the button. The Bluetooth mobile phone name appears on the display as the indicator (blue) flashes twice, and then the unit performs the connection operation for about 5 seconds. Notes When listening to music with the unit, a Bluetooth connection cannot be made by pressing the button ( Not Available will be displayed). When connecting to a Bluetooth mobile phone which is different from the last connected one, select the desired device in Device List (page 31). To call You can call by operating the Bluetooth mobile phone or by operating the unit. If you call by operating the unit, make the Bluetooth connection with HFP in advance. To call by operating the Bluetooth mobile phone 1 Use the buttons on your mobile phone when making a call. If no dialling tone is heard on the unit, press the button (only during Bluetooth connection with HFP), or press and hold the button for about 2 seconds. To call by operating the unit 1 Press the / button to select (Phone Call) on the HOME menu, and then press the button to confirm. 2 Press the / button to select a call type, and then press the button to confirm. Received Call Redial Voice Dial Calls phone numbers in the received call list. Press the / button to select the desired phone number, and then press the button to make a call. Up to 5 latest phone numbers can be registered. Calls the last dialled number. Activates the voice dial function of the Bluetooth mobile phone. Tip You can also call by pressing the button. For details, see Controlling the Bluetooth mobile phone HFP, HSP (page 23). Note This function does not work depending on the Bluetooth mobile phone. For details, refer to the manual supplied with your Bluetooth mobile phone. 21 GB

22 To receive a call When an incoming call arrives, a ring tone will be heard from the unit. The incoming phone number also appears on the display during Bluetooth connection with HFP. Note If you received a call by pressing a button on the Bluetooth mobile phone, some Bluetooth mobile phones may have handset use priority. In this case, set to talk with the unit by pressing the button (only during Bluetooth connection with HFP), or by pressing and holding the button for about 2 seconds, or by operating the Bluetooth mobile phone. For details, refer to the manual supplied with your Bluetooth mobile phone. To adjust the volume Press the VOL+/ button while calling to adjust the volume. Tips You cannot adjust the volume when not communicating. Volume for calling, listening to music and FM radio can be adjusted independently. Even if you change the volume while playing back the music or listening to FM radio, the volume of a call does not change. To terminate a call You can end a call by pressing the button on the unit. To stop use 1 Terminate Bluetooth connection by the Bluetooth mobile phone. 2 Press and hold the POWER button for about 2 seconds to turn off the power. 23 Controlling the Bluetooth mobile phone HFP, HSP The operation of the buttons on the unit varies depending on your mobile phone. HFP or HSP is used for a Bluetooth mobile phone. Refer to the operating instructions supplied with your Bluetooth mobile phone on supported Bluetooth profiles or how to operate. 24 Calling while playing back music The Bluetooth connection using HFP or HSP as well as A2DP is necessary to make a call while playing back music. For example, to make a call using a Bluetooth mobile phone while listening to music on a Bluetooth compatible music player, the unit needs to be connected to the mobile phone using HFP or HSP. Make a Bluetooth connection between the unit and the device in use following the procedures outlined below. 1 Make a Bluetooth connection between the unit and the mobile phone in use with HFP or HSP following the procedures outlined in Calling (page 20). 2 Operate the Bluetooth device (music player or mobile phone) used for playing the music to make a Bluetooth connection to the unit using A2DP. To make a call while playing back music 1 Make a call by performing the steps of To call (page 21). When making a call, the music pauses and the ring tone is heard from the unit. After finishing the call, press the button. The unit is switched back to music playback. To receive a call while playing back music When an incoming call arrives, the music pauses and the ring tone is heard from the unit. 1 Press the button and talk. After finishing the call, press the button. The unit is switched back to music playback. When no ring tone is heard even if an incoming call arrives 1 Stop music playback. 2 When ringing, press the button and talk. 24 GB

25 Listening to FM radio VOL+/ button TUNE+/ button You can listen to FM radio on the unit. The headphone cord works as an aerial. Use the unit with the headphone cord extended. 1 Press and hold the POWER button for about 2 seconds while the unit is turned off. Power On appears on the display as the indicator (blue) flashes twice, and then the unit turns on. 2 Press the FM button. The FM radio screen appears. Preset number Frequency Tip You can also listen to FM radio by pressing the TUNE+/ button to select (FM), and then by pressing the button to confirm POWER in step 2. button Note If noise occurs in a radio or TV, turn off the unit, and then keep it away from the radio or TV. button To adjust the volume FM button Press the VOL+/ button while listening to adjust the volume. 26 Selecting broadcast stations There are 2 ways (preset or manual tuning) to select broadcast stations. You can switch 2 ways by pressing the FM button briefly. Preset Tuning In the preset tuning mode, you can select broadcast stations by preset number. Manual Tuning In the manual tuning mode, you can select broadcast stations by frequency. Notes You cannot select broadcast stations if no preset stations are entered. Preset receivable stations using Presetting broadcast stations (page 27). If you listen to FM radio during music playback, playback on the Bluetooth device will stop automatically. If it is not happen, stop the playback on the Bluetooth device. 26 GB

27 Presetting broadcast stations You can preset broadcast stations which you selected in the manual tuning mode. 1 Select the desired frequency by the manual tuning mode (page 26). 2 Press and hold the button for about 2 seconds. The frequency you selected in step 1 is preset, and the assigned preset number appears to the left of the frequency. Tips You can preset up to 30 stations (P01 to P30). If you try to preset after 30 stations are already registered, Preset Full will appear on the display, indicating the no more presets can be made. The preset numbers are stored in order of frequency (low to high). If you press the button by mistake, the FM radio screen is switched to another screen (music playback screen etc.). Press the FM button to return to the FM radio screen. To delete preset broadcast stations 1 Select the preset number of the frequency to delete. 2 Press and hold the button for about 2 seconds. 3 Press the TUNE+/ button to select OK, and then press the button to confirm. The registered preset is deleted and the screen returns to the FM radio screen. Tips You can cancel deletion of a registered preset by pressing the button to confirm after selecting Cancel in step 3. If you press the button by mistake, the FM radio screen is switched to another screen (music playback screen etc.). Press the FM button to return to the FM radio screen. 28 Calling while receiving an FM broadcast The Bluetooth connection using HFP or HSP is necessary to make a call while receiving an FM broadcast. For example, to make a call using a Bluetooth mobile phone while listening to FM radio, the unit needs to be connected to the mobile phone using HFP or HSP. Make a Bluetooth connection between the unit and the device in use following the procedures outlined below. 1 Make a Bluetooth connection between the unit and the mobile phone in use with HFP or HSP following the procedures outlined in Calling (page 20). To make a call while receiving an FM broadcast 1 Make a call by performing the steps of To call (page 21). When making a call, FM radio pauses and the ring tone is heard from the unit. After finishing the call, press the button. The unit is switched back to FM radio. To receive a call while receiving an FM broadcast When an incoming call arrives, FM radio pauses and the ring tone is heard from the unit. 1 Press the button and talk. 29 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Settings button / button You can change settings of the unit and initialize settings by operating from (Settings) of the HOME menu. See About the HOME menu (page 9) for the list of setting items. 1 Press the / button on the HOME menu to select (Settings), and then press the button to confirm. 2 Press the / button to select the desired item ( Bluetooth, FM Tuner, Brightness or Initialize ), and then press the button to confirm. For details of settings, see the following. Bluetooth You can perform Bluetooth settings. Select items by pressing the / button (select) and button (confirm) repeatedly. The default setting is underlined. Sound Quality Set this function to Standard when sound skips frequently during playback. High Quality Standard Bit rate* is high, and the sound is better quality. Bit rate* is low to prevent sound from skipping. * Bit rate is a numerical value which represents data transmission volume per second. The higher the bit rate, in general, the better quality the sound will be. The unit can receive high bit rate music but sound skips may occur depending on the usage environment. Note You cannot set this function during Bluetooth connection with A2DP. Set this function after disconnecting from A2DP. Video Mode The sound output from the unit may not sync with the picture when watching video by connecting to the Bluetooth device with A2DP. In this case, you can adjust the delay between the picture and sound. Off ON Normal setting. Adjusts the sound delay. Tip If you set Video Mode to On, the (Video Mode) icon is displayed. Note If you set Video Mode to On, you can adjust the sound delay; however sound skips may occur, depending on the usage environment. Continued 29 GB

30 Remote Command You can set this function when operating the Bluetooth device corresponding to AVRCP. You can change command types to the Bluetooth device by pressing and holding the / button during playback. You may be able to fastforward and fast-rewind by changing this setting, depending on the Bluetooth device. Select items by pressing the / button (select) and button (confirm) repeatedly. The default setting is underlined. Dx/Local/Mono Set this function when FM reception is poor. Scan Sens You can set the receiver sensitivity of manual tuning (page 26). High Low Normal setting. Select this if the reception is so strong that unnecessary broadcast stations are received. Brightness You can set the display brightness level from 1(dark) to 5 (bright). Press the / button to select the brightness level, and then pressing the button to confirm. The default setting is Level 3. Note If you use the unit with a bright screen, usage hours decrease. Initialize You can reset the unit to its default (such as pairing information, preset, etc.) and delete all information. You can initialize by pressing the / button to select OK, and then pressing the button to confirm. Note You cannot set this function in the following situations. During Bluetooth connection. While FM radio is activated. 30 GB Dx Local Mono Normal setting. Select this if radio signals are so strong that FM reception is distorted. Select this if radio signals are so poor that FM reception is unstable. (Noise is reduced allowing you to listen to FM radio more clearly.)

Tips The displayed items differ depending on the paired Bluetooth device. Up to 8 devices can be registered in Device List. 32 32 GB Phone Connect (HFP or HSP connection) Select this when you call by connecting to the Bluetooth mobile phone (page 20). This setting connects the registered device and the unit with HFP* 1 or HSP. If both profiles are possible to connect, HFP has priority. This setting is not available if the Bluetooth mobile phone does not correspond to HFP and HSP, or if the unit is connected with HFP or HSP. Phone Disconnect (HFP or HSP disconnection) Disconnects the registered device and the unit from HFP or HSP. This setting is available if the selected Bluetooth mobile phone is connected with HFP or HSP. Music Connect (A2DP or AVRCP connection) Select this when you listen to music by connecting to the Bluetooth device (page 17). This setting connects the registered device and the unit with A2DP* 1 and AVRCP. This setting is not available if the device does not correspond to A2DP, or if the unit is connected with A2DP. Music Disconnect (A2DP or AVRCP disconnection) Disconnects the registered device and the unit from A2DP and AVRCP. This setting is available if the selected Bluetooth device is connected with A2DP. Delete Deletes registered devices from the list. This setting is not available if the selected device is connected with HFP/HSP or A2DP. Unit Info Displays registered device information. The BD address (unique Bluetooth device number) is displayed if Device Address is selected. Connectable profiles (HFP, HSP, A2DP or AVRCP) to the unit are displayed if Profile * 2 is selected. * 1 For details on profiles, see page 4. * 2 Only profiles of Bluetooth devices connected to the unit may be displayed in Profile depending on the device. Tip If Phone Connect or Music Connect is performed, some Bluetooth devices may be connected with HFP and HSP. Moreover, if Phone Disconnect or Music Disconnect is performed, some Bluetooth devices may be disconnected from A2DP and AVRCP.

33 Precautions On Bluetooth communication Bluetooth wireless technology operates within a range of about 10 metres. Maximum communication range may vary depending on obstacles (human body, metal, wall, etc.) or electromagnetic environment. The aerial is built into the unit as illustrated in the dotted line. The sensitivity of the Bluetooth communication will improve by turning the direction of the built-in aerial to the connected Bluetooth device. The communication distance shortens when the obstacles are between the aerial of the connected device and the unit. Location of built-in aerial The following conditions may affect the sensitivity of Bluetooth communication. There is an obstacle such as a human body, metal, or wall between the unit and Bluetooth device. A device using 2.4 GHz frequency, such as a wireless LAN device, cordless telephone, or microwave oven, is in use near the unit. Because Bluetooth devices and wireless LAN (IEEE802.11b/g) use the same frequency, microwave interference may occur and resulting in communication speed deterioration, noise, or invalid connection if the unit is used near a wireless LAN device. In such a case, perform the following. Use the unit at least 10 m away from the wireless LAN device. If the unit is used within 10 m of a wireless LAN device, turn off the wireless LAN device. Install the unit and Bluetooth device as near to each other as possible. Microwaves emitting from a Bluetooth device may affect the operation of electronic medical devices. Turn off the unit and other Bluetooth devices in the following locations, as it may cause an accident: where inflammable gas is present, in a hospital, train, airplane, or a petrol station near automatic doors or a fire alarm The unit supports security capabilities that comply with the Bluetooth standard to provide a secure connection when the Bluetooth wireless technology is used, but security may not be enough depending on the setting. Be careful when communicating using Bluetooth wireless technology. We do not take any responsibility for the leakage of information during Bluetooth communication. Connection with all Bluetooth devices cannot be guaranteed. A device featuring Bluetooth function is required to conform to the Bluetooth standard specified by Bluetooth SIG, Inc. and be authenticated. Even if the connected device conforms to the above mentioned Bluetooth standard, some devices may not be connected or work correctly, depending on the features or specifications of the device. While talking on the phone hands free, noise may occur, depending on the device or communication environment. Depending on the device to be connected, it may require some time to start communication. 34 Note on static electricity In particularly dry air conditions, mild tingling may be felt on your ears. This is a result of static electricity accumulated in the body, and not a malfunction of the headphones. The effect can be minimised by wearing clothes made from natural materials. Others Do not place the unit in a place exposed to humidity, dust, soot or steam, subject to direct sunlight, or in a car waiting at a traffic signal. It may cause a malfunction. Using the Bluetooth device may not function on mobile phones, depending on radio wave conditions and location where the equipment is being used. If you experience discomfort after using the Bluetooth device, stop using the Bluetooth device immediately. Should any problem persist, consult your nearest Sony dealer. Listening with the unit at high volume may affect your hearing. For traffic safety, do not use the unit while driving or cycling. Do not put weight or pressure on the unit as it may cause the unit to deform during long storage. Do not subject the unit to excessive shock. Clean the unit with a soft dry cloth. When using the unit, remember to follow the precautions below in order to avoid warping the cabinet or causing the unit to malfunction. Make sure not to sit down with the unit in your back pocket. Make sure not to put the unit into a bag with the headphones/earphones cord wrapped around it and then subject the bag to strong impact. Do not expose the unit to water. The unit is not waterproof. Remember to follow the precautions below. Be careful not to drop the unit into a sink or other container filled with water. Do not use the unit in humid locations or bad weather, such as in the rain or snow. Do not get the unit wet. If you touch the unit with wet hands, or put the unit in a damp article of clothing, the unit may get wet and this may cause a malfunction of the unit. 35 Troubleshooting If you run into any problems using the unit, use the following checklist and read the product support information on our website. Should any problem persist, consult your nearest Sony dealer. Common The unit is not turned on. Charge the battery of the unit. The unit cannot be turned on while charging. Remove the USB cable from the unit, and then turn on the power. Pairing cannot be done. Bring the unit and the Bluetooth device closer together. Cannot make the Bluetooth connection. Check that the unit is turned on. Check that the Bluetooth connecting device is turned on and the Bluetooth function is on. Connection with the Bluetooth device may not be memorised on the unit. Make the Bluetooth connection from the Bluetooth device to the unit soon after pairing is complete. The unit or Bluetooth connecting device is in sleep mode. The Bluetooth connection is terminated. Make the Bluetooth connection again (when listening to music: see page 17, when calling: see page 20). Distorted sound Ensure that the unit is not receiving interference from a wireless LAN, other 2.4 GHz wireless device, or microwave oven. The correspondence distance is short. (Sound skips.) If a device that generates electromagnetic radiation, such as a wireless LAN, other Bluetooth device(s), or a microwave oven is nearby, move away from such sources. Point the aerial of the unit towards the Bluetooth device (page 33). Make sure no obstacles block the communication. The unit does not operate properly. Reset the unit. Pairing information is not deleted by this operation. Insert a small pin, etc., into the hole, and push until you feel a click. 35 GB

36 When charging Charging cannot be done. Check that the unit and the computer are firmly connected by the USB cable. Check that the computer is turned on. Check that the computer is not in standby, sleep or hibernation mode. Charging time is too long. Check that the unit and the computer are directly connected, not via a USB hub. The unit cannot be recognised by a computer. The USB cable is not connected properly to the USB port of the computer. Connect the USB cable again. Check that the unit and the computer are directly connected, not via a USB hub. A problem may occur with the connected USB port of the computer. Connect to another USB port if it is available. Try the USB connection procedure again in cases other than those stated above. When listening to music No sound Bluetooth device are turned on. A2DP Bluetooth connection is not made between the unit and the Bluetooth device. Make an A2DP Bluetooth connection (page 17). Check that music is being played back by the Bluetooth device. Check that the volume of the unit is not set too low. Turn up the volume on the connected device if necessary. Pair the unit and Bluetooth device again (page 13). Low sound level Turn up the volume of the unit. Turn up the volume on the connected device if necessary. Low sound quality Switch the Bluetooth connection to A2DP by operating the Bluetooth device when HSP is set. Sound skips frequently during playback. Reception condition of the unit may have become unstable due to improper matching of the bit-rate setting for the music transmitted from the Bluetooth device and the environment in which the unit is used. Set Sound Quality of (Settings) to Standard (page 29).* * The above operations may not reduce the sound skip depending on the usage environment. To reset to the original setting, set Sound Quality of (Settings) to High Quality. If Video Mode is set to On, sound skips may occur, depending on the usage environment. Set Video Mode of (Settings) to Off (page 29). 36 GB

37 When calling The recipient s voice cannot be heard. Check that both the unit and the Bluetooth mobile phone are turned on. Check the connection between the unit and the Bluetooth mobile phone. Make a Bluetooth connection (HFP or HSP) again (page 20). Check that output of the Bluetooth mobile phone is set for the unit. Check that the volume of the unit is not set too low. Turn up the volume on the connected Bluetooth mobile phone if necessary. If you are listening to music using the unit, stop playback, press the button and talk. Low sound from recipient Turn up the volume of the unit. Turn up the volume on the connected Bluetooth mobile phone if necessary. When listening to FM radio FM broadcasts are not clear. Select the frequency manually to improve reception (page 26). Reception is weak and sound quality is poor. Listen to the FM broadcast near a window since the signal may be weak inside buildings or vehicles. The headphone cord works as an aerial. Extend the headphone cord as far as possible. The FM broadcast is affected by interference. When using a device emitting radio signals such as a mobile phone, keep it away from the unit. 37 GB
