Bethesda University Mission Statement Bethesda University is a Christ-centered community of higher education preparing Korean/English speaking men and women with professional competence, academic excellence, and spiritual integrity to be servant leaders in the Church, community, and global society. B. Relationship of Course to Bethesda University s Mission The New Testament, the second part of the Bible in order, not only reveals how Jesus is and how we get salvation through him, but also instructs how to live a spiritual life strongly called for to Christians. In this regard, this course is expected to offer a holistic chance both to understand Jesus, the Savior, in more depth and to learn or reaffirm how to attain the spiritual growth while still living in this earthly world. C. Course Description This course touches basic, but indispensable subjects on the New Testament for its better understanding: how does the New Testament world look like in light of its culture, history, politics, religion, and society of the first century? Who wrote each book of the New Testament where, why and under what circumstances? What are their main purposes to be written? etc. After all, at the end of the semester, students are expected to find themselves both trained with well-informed knowledge of the New Testament on the whole and ready to apply such knowledge to their lives for the solemn harvest of spiritual fruits. Attendance, Preparation, and Participation: Class Attendance: It does not have to be reminded twice for students to come to every class on time. Three absences without any direct notice to the professor prior to the class will result in a grade of F in the course. Class Preparation: As mentioned above, students are supposed to read at least the designated portion of the main text before they attend each class. Class Participation: Students are encouraged to actively participate in the class usually via questioning, answering, and discussing. Even though there is no explicitly established measure to assess how well students prepare themselves for

8 the class by means of the required reading, those who faithfully read would easily be an impressive and effective part of the class. 2. Deadlines: Refer to the Course Schedule above. 3. Makeup work: Students, who are forced under unwanted situations not to complete the course requirements, can talk with the professor for alternative options for makeup. 4.
