Disconnect the power cable from the outlet, then leave this unit alone. 9 When using this unit for a long time, this unit ma become warm. Turn the sstem off, then leave this unit alone for cooling. 20 Install this unit near the wall outlet and where the AC power plug can be reached easil. 2 The batteries shall not be exposed to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire or the like. Keep the batteries in a location out of reach of children. Batteries can be dangerous if a child were to put in his or her mouth. If the batteries grow old, the effective operation range of the remote control decreases considerabl. If this happens, replace the batteries with two new ones as soon as possible. Do not use old batteries together with new ones. Do not use different tpes of batteries (such as alkaline and manganese batteries) together. The music ou select is plaed at a volume of our own choice at the set alarm time, giving ou the best possible start to the da (IntelliAlarm function). Store/call up to five of our favorite FM stations easil. The 3-band equalizer (bass, middle, treble) can be set so that music sounds exactl how ou want it. Two tpes of clocks (with hour hands) that match the design of the unit can be shown. About this manual The phrase ipod used throughout this manual also includes the iphone. If both the unit and remote control buttons can be used to operate a feature, the manual will describe steps using the buttons on the unit. Time is displaed on the front panel even when the sstem is off. Press and hold on the top of the unit for more than 3 seconds to set the sstem to power save mode. No information on the front panel is displaed in power save mode. This can reduce power consumption. To cancel power save mode, press again. Even in sstem off/power save mode, the alarm function is available. b ipod dock Connect an ipod. c port Connect a device (P. 9). d /+ Adjust the volume. e Switch the source to be plaed. f ALARM Turns the alarm on/off, and allows various alarm settings to be adjusted (P. 3, 4). g SNOOZE/SLEEP Set the sleep timer or switch the alarm to snooze mode (P. 4, 5). h PRESET Store/call up FM stations, or switch the plaback folder (when plaing music on data CDs or devices). i / Skip the plaback track/file, or tune the radio. Connecting an ipod to the ipod dock Dock adaptor An ipod will be recharged while it is connected to the dock. The ipod will not be recharged when the unit is in power save mode. Be sure to use a dock adaptor that is compatible with our ipod. If ou do not use the adaptor or the adaptor is not compatible, the connection could be loose or poor, which could cause damage to the connector. For details on dock adaptor information, please visit official Apple s website. If an ipod in protective case is connected b force, the connector ma be damaged. Remove the protective case before connection. When the ipod is not in use, set the ipod dock cover to protect the connector. 2 En

7 ADJUSTING THE CLOCK Setting the time Top panel AUTO 2 SET 2 BEEP + BEEP Move the CLOCK switch on the rear panel to SET. 9 LISTENING TO CD AND DEVICES The unit will operate as follows when plaing back tracks/files on CD/ devices. If the CD/ device being plaed back is stopped, the track that was being plaed back will start plaing from the beginning of the track the next time plaback begins. If ou press on the remote control while plaback is stopped, the next time plaback begins, the unit will pla tracks as follows: For audio CD : from the first track of the CD. For data CD/ device: from the first track of the folder that contains the track that was plaed last. The sstem turns off automaticall 60 minutes after CD/ device plaback is stopped. For details on plaable discs and files, refer to NOTES ON DISCS AND DEVICES (P. 8). Folder containing characters other than the alphabet are plaed after alphabet character folders. File plaback order: files will be plaed back in order from files with the oldest wrote date. Use the following buttons to control the unit while plaing back tracks on devices. AUTO 2 SET DIMMER CL Connect external audio device to AUX on the rear panel using a commerciall available 3.5 mm (/8 in) stereo mini plug cable. LAB ipod ALARM SNOOZ AUX 75 Ω FM ANT AUX 2 3 Note Turn down the volume of the unit and our external audio device before connection. 2 Press to turn the sstem on. 3 Press and set AUX as the plaback source. 4 Start plaback on the connected external audio device. 14 The unit includes an alarm function (IntelliAlarm) that plas back music sources or set of beeps at the set time in a variet of different methods. The alarm function has following features. 3 tpes of alarms Select from 3 alarm tpes, combining music and beep sounds. USING THE ALARM FUNCTION + BEEP BEEP The selected audio source and beep sound are plaed at the set time. This mode is recommended for the best possible start to the da. 3 minutes before the set time: the source music begins to fade in and the volume graduall increases as the alarm time approaches. Alarm time: a beeping sound also begins plaing. The selected audio source is plaed at the set time. The volume fades in graduall and increases to the set volume. Onl beep sound is plaed back at the set time. Various music sources The ipod, audio CD, data CD, device and radio can be selected. The following can also be selected depending on the audio source: Source Plaback method Function ipod Audio CD Data CD/ FM Plalist* Resume Selected track Resume Folder Resume Preset station Resume A specific plalist stored on the ipod can be plaed back repeatedl. To pla a plalist, create a plalist with the name ALARM Yamaha DTA in advance. When creating the plalist name, make sure there are spaces between words, and take note of upper/lower case letters. If the ALARM Yamaha DTA plalist cannot be found within the ipod, the unit resumes pla from the last track ou plaed. The selected track is plaed repeatedl. The track ou listened to last time is plaed back. The selected folder is plaed repeatedl. The track ou listened to last time is plaed back. The selected preset FM station is plaed. The FM station ou listened to last time is plaed back. * For information on creating a plalist, refer to the instructions for our ipod or itunes. Test alarm You can test the sound of the alarm when setting the alarm function. Snooze The snooze function can be enabled to repla the alarm after 5 minutes. 2 En

15 USING THE ALARM FUNCTION Set the alarm time and alarm tpe Top panel AUTO 2 SET 2 BEEP + BEEP DIMMER CLOCK ALARM TYPE 5 (when alarm tpes other than BEEP are selected) Specif the track, folder or FM station to be plaed. If ipod is set as the source: No settings required. If CD//FM is selected as the source: Press PRESET to select the track (audio CD), folder (data CD/ devise) or FM station to be plaed. English ALARM Press and hold ALARM. SNOOZE SLEEP PRESET Alarm time Alarm indicator Using the remote control Press PRESET /. When ipod is set as the source, the unit plas back the ALARM Yamaha DTA plalist at the set alarm time. If this plalist cannot be found within the ipod, the unit resumes pla from the last track ou plaed (resume). When CD/ is selected as the source and 0 is set as track/folder number, the plaback resumes from the track ou listened to last time (resume). When FM is selected as the source and preset number 0 is set, the unit resumes broadcasting the last FM station ou listened to (resume). 6 Set the alarm volume b pressing /+. The alarm indicator ( 2 Press / to set the alarm time. ) and set alarm time will flash. CD Alarm volume Using the remote control Press /. 3 Select the alarm tpe with the ALARM TYPE switch on the rear panel. For details on alarm tpes, refer to P. 2. Rear panel + BEEP BEEP Press / to test the alarm. Press / again to stop testing. 7 Press ALARM to complete setting the alarm. The alarm will be set, and the alarm indicator ( light up. ) will Note The alarm setting will be erased if the sstem is turned off without properl completing it. 4 (when alarm tpes other than BEEP are selected) Press to select music source. Sources other than AUX can be selected. Using the remote control Press Source button to select music source. If ipod/cd/ has been selected, connect/insert the audio source (ipod, audio/data CD, device) to the unit. Notes If the selected source is not connected or inserted, the selected track/ folder cannot be plaed. If source cannot be plaed back at the time set for the alarm (eg. ipod is not connected), the beep sound is plaed back. 3 En

16 USING THE ALARM FUNCTION Turning the alarm on/off Top panel 2 2 AUTO SET BEEP SOUR DIMMER CLOCK ALARM Press ALARM. When the alarm is on, the alarm indicator ( ) is shown, and the alarm time is shown for a while. If ou press ALARM again, the alarm indicator ( ) and the alarm will turn off. ipod The set alarm time will be saved even if the alarm is turned off. If the alarm is turned on again b pressing ALARM, the alarm will sound with the previousl alarm settings. ALARM SNOOZE SLEEP Operations while plaing back alarm sound At the set time, the alarm sound is plaed back. During plaback, the following operations are available. Top panel (if ou want to stop the alarm for a short time) Press AUTO 2 SET 2 BEEP SNOOZE/SLEEP. SOUR DIMMER CLOCK ALARM SNOOZE will stop the alarm and resume again in 5 minutes. When + BEEP is set, press SNOOZE/SLEEP once to stop the beep sound, and twice to stop the audio source. 5 minutes after the audio source is stopped, it will start fading in again and the beep sound will resume. ipod ALARM SNOOZE SLEEP The alarm indicator will flash when the snooze function is activated (if ou want to turn the alarm off) Press ALARM or. The alarm stops automaticall after 60 minutes unless ou stop the alarm. 4 En

17 USING THE SLEEP TIMER You can set the time to turn off the sstem automaticall. Top panel 2 2 AUTO SET BEEP SOURC DIMMER CLOCK ALARM T ipod ALARM SNOOZE SLEEP Press SNOOZE/SLEEP a number of times to set the time until the sstem turns off. The sleep timer can be set to 30, 60, 90 and 20 minutes. When the time is set, the sleep indicator ( ) is shown on the front panel displa. If ou press SNOOZE/SLEEP while the sleep timer is activated, the sleep timer setting will be canceled. English TONE CONTROL Remote control 3 2 Press one of the LOW/MID/HIGH EQ buttons on the remote control while plaing back. Select the tone to be adjusted (LOW, MID, HIGH). ipod Tone Setting Tone 2 Press / to adjust the tone. Each tone can be adjusted from 5 to Press ENTER to complete settings. You can also press the EQ button that ou pressed in Step to complete the settings. To change the tone of other audio frequencies, return to step and press the EQ button to adjust the desired frequenc. 18 TROUBLESHOOTING If there is a problem with the unit, check the following list first. If ou cannot resolve the problem with the suggested solutions or if the problem is not listed below, turn off and unplug the sstem, and consult the nearest authorized Yamaha dealer or service center. An incompatible device is connected to the unit. An overcurrent is detected. Turn off the sstem and reconnect the device to the unit. If it does not resolve the problem, the device is not plaable on the unit. FM radio reception Problem Cause Solution Too much noise during stereo broadcast. The antenna ma be connected improperl. Make sure the antenna is connected properl ( P. 3). Even with an outdoor antenna, radio wave reception is weak. (Sound is distorted.) The radio station ou selected ma be far from our area, or the radio wave reception is weak in our area. Multipath reflection or other radio interferences ma have occurred. Tr manual tuning to improve the signal qualit ( P. 0) or use a multi-channel outdoor antenna. Change the height, direction, or placement of the antenna. Remote control The remote control does not work properl. Problem Cause Solution The remote control ma be operated outside its operation range. The remote control signal receiver on the unit ( P. 3) ma be exposed to direct sunlight or lighting (inverted fluorescent lamps). The batter ma be worn out. There are obstacles between the remote control signal receiver on the unit and the remote control. For information on the remote control operation range, refer to How to use the remote control (P. ).
