About this manual ipod described in this manual ma also refer to iphone. This manual describes how to operate this unit using buttons on the unit. Some of these operations are also available using the remote control. 4 PREPARATION NAMES OF PARTS AND THEIR FUNCTIONS Top panel Set our ipod in the ipod dock. An ipod is charged when set in the ipod dock. During power save mode, the ipod is not charged. Dock Adaptor Notes Be sure to use a dock adaptor that is compatible with our ipod. If ou do not use the adaptor or the adaptor is not compatible, the connection could be loose or poor, which could cause damage to the connector. If an ipod in protective case is connected b force, the connector ma be damaged. Remove the protective case before connection. When the ipod is not in use, set the dock cover to protect the connector. 1 ipod dock: Set an ipod. 2 USB port ( P. 7) Note When the USB device is not in use, set the USB cover to protect the connector. 3 : Press to turn the sstem on/off. Time is displaed even when the sstem is off. Press and hold on the top of the unit for more than 3 seconds to set the sstem to power save mode. All the information on the front panel displa is not displaed in power save mode. This can reduce power consumption. To cancel power save mode, press on the top of the unit. 6 NAMES OF PARTS AND THEIR FUNCTIONS Rear panel (Connecting antenna) 1 FM antenna terminal: Connect the supplied indoor FM antenna. 2 GND: Connect the cable core of the Indoor FM antenna (see below). 3 AUX: Connect an external device. ( P. 8) 4 USB FOR SYNC.: Connect to PC. ( P. 6) 5 15V : Connect supplied AC adaptor and power cable. 6 CLOCK: Adjust the clock. ( P. 5) 7 ALARM TYPE: Set alarm tpe of IntelliAlarm function. ( P. 9) 8 Indoor FM antenna (supplied) Notes The antenna should be stretched out. If ou use an outdoor antenna instead of the supplied FM antenna, reception will be better. If radio reception is poor, change the height, direction, or placement of the antenna. Connecting antenna to the GND terminal It is recommended to connect the antenna to the GND terminal before connecting to the FM antenna terminal. 1 Ring Remove insulation and twist the edge of the cord. 2 Full screw down the GND terminal. 3 Wind the cord around the GND terminal. Make sure the cord is wound inside of the ring part. 4 Tighten the GND terminal taking care not to slip the cord off from the terminal. 4 En

Set the time with PRESET. 3 Set CLOCK to LOCK to complete. At the time LOCK is set, it will be 00 second and time count starts. On step 2, ou can cop the time of ipod instead of setting time manuall b setting the ipod to the ipod dock. If ipod is alread in the ipod dock when CLOCK is set to SET, the time in the ipod is not copied to this unit. Press SNOOZE/SLEEP to switch between the 12 and 24 hour clock displa. Note The time settings are lost about one week after unplugging the unit. 5 En

8 OPERATION LISTENING TO ipod Listening to ipod For details on compatible ipod models, refer to SPECIFICATIONS ( P. 17). Front panel 1 Set our ipod in the ipod dock. 2 Set SOURCE to ipod. 3 Pla the ipod. Plaback operations are available with the remote control, ipod and this unit. You can remove the ipod whenever ou want. When music/video in the ipod is plaed back, this unit turns the sstem on automaticall and plas back the ipod even if the unit is sstem off. Snchronizing with itunes (ipod itunes Snc function) You can snchronize our ipod with our itunes through this unit. 3 Rear panel Top panel 4 Press and 5 hold Front panel Snchronize Press and hold 1 Connect this unit to PC with commerciall available USB 2.0 cable (A/Mini-B). Note Use USB 2.0 cable shorter than 2 m (6.6'). 2 Set our ipod in the ipod dock. 3 Turn the sstem on. SYNC indicator located on the left side of the SYNC lights up. 4 Press and hold SYNC. SYNC indicator flashes. After that, snchronize to ipod with itunes using PC. For details on snchronization, refer to the manual of ipod. 5 Press and hold SYNC to complete after disconnecting the ipod on itunes. During snchronizing, source other than ipod can be plaed back. Notes During snchronizing, sstem cannot be turned off. Do not remove the ipod, USB cable, AC adaptor and power cable during snchronizing. During snchronizing, alarm function does not work. 6 En

9 LISTENING TO CD AND USB DEVICE English Listening to CD Front panel 1 Set SOURCE to CD. 2 Insert a CD. Plaback starts automaticall. Plaback operations are available with the remote control and this unit. Note Insert the CD with the label side facing toward the front of the unit. Listening to USB device Front panel 1 Set SOURCE to USB. 2 Connect a USB device. Plaback starts automaticall. Plaback operations are available with the remote control and this unit. You can remove our USB device whenever ou want. USB plaback order is determined as follows: Folders are plaed in alphabetical order of the first three characters in the folder name. Other characters come after the alphabet. Files are plaed in recording order. If button on the top panel is pressed during plaback, next time plaback starts from the beginning of the track ou listened to last time. If button is pressed again while plaback is stopped, next time plaback starts as follows: For audio CD: from the first track of the CD. For data CD/USB device: from the first track of the folder contains the track ou listened to last time. For details on plaable discs and files, refer to NOTES ON DISCS AND USB DEVICES ( P. 16). This unit automaticall turns off the sstem 60 minutes after CD/USB device plaback is stopped. Displa information Track or folder and file number appears for a while when plaback starts. 10 LISTENING TO RADIO STATIONS Tuning radio stations Front panel Top Panel 1 Set SOURCE to FM. 2 For automatic tuning, press and hold TUNING. For manual tuning, press TUNING repeatedl. Note If ou tune to a station manuall, the sound is monaural. Presetting radio stations You can store our favorite 5 radio stations with the preset function Tune into a favorite radio station. 2 Press MEMORY. 3 Select the PRESET number ou want to store to. Top Panel Front panel To cancel the preset, press TUNING again. Front panel 4 Press MEMORY to complete. Selecting preset radio stations 1 Set SOURCE to FM. 2 Select the preset radio station with PRESET. Front panel Front panel LISTENING TO EXTERNAL SOURCE Rear Panel Front panel 1 Connect our portable audio device to AUX using a commerciall available 3.5 mm (1/8 in) mini plug cable. Note Turn down the volume of this unit and our portable audio device before connection. 2 Set SOURCE to AUX. 3 Start plaback on the connected portable audio device. 8 En

11 USING ALARM FUNCTION English Features of IntelliAlarm This unit can pla back our favorite music and/or beep sound at the set time. The alarm function (IntelliAlarm) has following features. This unit has 3 alarm tpes combining music and beep sound: SOURCE+BEEP SOURCE BEEP Selected audio source and the beep sound are plaed at the set time. Source plaback begins to fade in 3 minutes before the set time and the volume graduall increases to the set volume. Then, at the set time, the beep sound is activated. This mode is recommended for a comfortable wake-up. Selected source plas at the set time. Fade-in volume graduall increases to the set volume. Onl beep sound is plaed back at the set time. Alarm source plaed back at the set time can be selected from ipod, audio CD, data CD, USB device, and radio. Depending on the source, followings also can be selected: SOURCE Selectable item Function ipod Plalist The specified plalist is plaed back repeatedl. When ou want to pla a plalist, create ALARM Yamaha DTA plalist in advance. Make sure it is named exactl as shown here, with spaces between the words and the same upper/lower case letters. Resume pla When the ALARM Yamaha DTA plalist is not in the ipod, the track ou listened to last time is resumed. Audio CD Track The Selected track is plaed back repeatedl. Resume pla The track ou listened to last time is plaed back. Data CD/USB Folder The Selected folder is plaed back repeatedl. Resume pla The folder ou listened to last time is plaed back. FM Preset The selected preset radio station is plaed. Resume pla The radio station ou listened to last time is plaed. You can check the sound of the set alarm when making the alarm setting. Snooze function is also available. Alarm setting Setting the alarm time and sound 1 Press SET. Alarm indicator ( ) and setting items flash. 2 Set the alarm time with PRESET. 12 USING ALARM FUNCTION 3 4 (As required) 3 Set ALARM TYPE. Select from SOURCE+BEEP, SOURCE or BEEP. For the details on alarm tpe, Refer to Features of IntelliAlarm ( P. 9). 5 Rear panel 6 Front panel 4 Select SOURCE (as required). When ou select SOURCE+BEEP or SOURCE, select source. A source other than AUX can be selected. 5 Select a track, folder or radio station (as required). When the source is CD/USB/FM, select a track, folder or radio station for alarm with /. (As required) Top panel Front panel When ipod is set as source, this unit plas back ALARM Yamaha DTA plalist at the set time. If the plalist is not in the ipod, the track ou listened to last time is resumed. When CD/USB is selected and 0 is set as track/folder number, the track ou listened to last time is resumed. When FM is selected and number of preset indicator ( P. 3) is not displaed, the radio station ou listened to last time is plaed. 7 Note When selected source is not set, setting on step 5 cannot be set. 6 Set the alarm volume with VOLUME. Top panel When ipod or radio is selected, set alarm can be plaed back b pressing. When CD/USB is selected, set alarm can be plaed back b pressing while is flashing. Press to stop the alarm. 7 Press SET to complete. Alarm is set and the alarm indicator ( ) lights up. 10 En

13 USING ALARM FUNCTION Switching the alarm on/off Top panel Switch on/off the alarm function. When the alarm is on, the alarm indicator ( ) lights up and alarm time is displaed for a while. English Operations during plaing back alarm sound At the set time, alarm sound plas back. During plaback, operations below are available. Note If source cannot be plaed back at the alarm time (ex. ipod is not set), beep sound is plaed back. Using the snooze function Top panel Press SNOOZE/SLEEP. The alarm sound stops and resumes after 5 minutes. When SOURCE+BEEP is set, press SNOOZE/SLEEP to stop the beep sound. press SNOOZE/SLEEP again to stop the source. After 5 minutes from the source is stopped, the source with fading in and beep sound resumes. When the snooze function is activated, alarm indicator flashes. Stopping the alarm Press ALARM or. Top panel Top panel Unless ou stop the alarm, the alarm stops after 60 minutes automaticall. The alarm function turns off when ou stop the alarm, but settings such as the alarm time are saved for convenient use next time. To set the alarm again, press ALARM. 11 En

CD/USB (Repeat all songs in the folder) (All repeat) (Single repeat) No displa (Repeat Off) ipod (One) (All) No displa (Repeat Off) When source contains folders, folder shuffle/repeat can be selected. For some ipod models, the shuffle and repeat functions ma not be displaed or supported. When ipod is plaed back, the setting order of shuffle and repeat depends on the ipod model. USING SLEEP FUNCTION You can set the time to turn off the sstem automaticall. Press repeatedl Top panel Select the sleep time. You can set 30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes. When the time is set, the sleep function is set to on, and the sleep indicator ( ) lights up. To cancel the sleep, press SNOOZE/ SLEEP. TONE CONTROL Front panel Front panel 3 1 Press EQ during plaback. LOW, MID and HIGH light up. 2 Adjust the tone with LOW, MID and HIGH. 3 Press EQ to complete. 12 En

15 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION TROUBLESHOOTING English In case of a problem with the unit, check the following list first. If ou cannot solve our problem with the suggested solutions or if our problem is not listed below, turn off and unplug the unit, and consult the nearest authorized Yamaha dealer or service center. The clock setting has been cleared. ipod does not pla back at the alarm time even if SOURCE is set to ipod. Clock flashes and the unit cannot be operated. Input source volume is excessive, or volume of this unit is excessive (especiall Bass). The unit ma have received a strong electrical shock such as lightning or excessive static electricit, or power suppl ma have dropped. The unit ma be placed too close to the digital or high-frequenc equipment. The unit is left more than one week after ou disconnect the power cable from the wall outlet. Adjust volume with VOLUME, or adjust Bass with EQ ( P. 3, 12). Set the sstem to off, and disconnect the power cable. Wait about 30 seconds, reconnect the power cable, and turn on the sstem. Place the unit farther awa from the equipment. Plug the power cable into the wall outlet firml, and set the clock again ( P. 5). The ipod is not set in the ipod dock. Set the ipod in the ipod dock ( P. 2). ALARM TYPE is set to BEEP. Set ALARM TYPE to SOURCE+BEEP or SOURCE ( P. 9). CLOCK on the rear panel is set to SET, Set CLOCK to LOCK. and this unit is in clock setting mode. 13 En

16 TROUBLESHOOTING ipod Problem Cause Solution No sound The ipod is not set in the ipod dock Set the ipod firml. firml. Earphones are connected. Remove the earphones. The ipod software version has not been updated. The ipod does not charge up. The ipod is set in the ipod dock improperl. The sstem is set to power save mode ( P. 2). Flashing ipod indicator twice is repeated 3 times after connecting the ipod. Snchronization with itunes cannot be performed using this unit. The ipod being used is not supported b the unit. Depending on the PC or USB cable, signal damping is increased and the connection might be failed. Download the latest itunes software to update the ipod software version to the latest. Remove the ipod from the unit, and then set it in the ipod dock again ( P. 2). Press to cancel the power save mode. Use a supported ipod ( P. 17). Use shorter USB 2.0 cable. Disc plaback Problem Cause Solution Disc cannot be inserted. The sstem is set to power save mode ( P. 2). Press to cancel the power save mode. Some button operations do not work. The disc loaded into the unit ma not be compatible. Use a disc supported b the unit ( P. 16). Plaback does not start immediatel after pressing. CD indicator repeats flashing twice 3 times, and the disc is unloaded. Err is displaed in the front panel displa after loading a disc. The disc ma be dirt. The disc loaded into the unit ma not be compatible. If the unit was moved from a cold to warm place, condensation ma have formed on the disc reading lens. The disc loaded into the unit ma not be compatible. Wipe the disc clean. Use a disc supported b the unit ( P. 16). Wait for an hour or two until the unit adjusts to the room temperature, and tr again. Use a disc supported b the unit ( P. 16). The disc ma be dirt. Wipe the disc clean. The disc is loaded back to front. Insert a disc facing the label side to near side. The disc does not contain plaable files. Use a disc contains plaable files ( P. 16). An error occurs in the unit. 17 TROUBLESHOOTING USB device plaback English Problem Cause Solution The USB device is not recognized. MP3/WMA file in the USB device does not pla. Flashing USB indicator twice is repeated 3 times after connecting a USB device. Err is displaed in the front panel displa after connecting a USB device. An incompatible USB device is connected to the unit. The USB device does not contain plaable files. An incompatible USB device is connected to the unit. An overcurrent is detected. Turn off the sstem and reconnect the USB device to the unit. Connect an AC adapter if supplied with the device. If the solutions above do not resolve the problem, the USB device is not plaable on the unit. Turn off the sstem and reconnect the USB device to the unit. If it does not resolve the problem, the USB device is not plaable on the unit. Use a USB device contains plaable files ( P. 16). Turn off the sstem and reconnect the USB device to the unit. If it does not resolve the problem, the USB device is not plaable on the unit. Radio reception Problem Cause Solution Too much noise during stereo broadcast. Even with an outdoor antenna, radio wave reception is weak. (Sound is distorted.) The antenna ma be connected improperl. The radio station ou selected ma be far from our area, or the radio wave reception is weak in our area. Multipath reflection or other radio interferences ma have occurred. Make sure the antenna is connected properl ( P. 4). Tr manual tuning to improve the signal qualit ( P. 8) or use a multi-channel outdoor antenna. Change the height, direction, or placement of the antenna. Remote control Problem Cause Solution The remote control does not work properl. The remote control ma be operated outside its operation range. The remote control sensor on the unit ma be exposed to direct sunlight or lighting (inverted fluorescent lamps). The batter ma be worn out. There are obstacles between the sensor of the unit and the remote control. For information on the remote control operation range, refer to Using the remote control ( P. 1). 29 Prestaciones de IntelliAlarm USAR LA FUNCIÓN DE ALARMA Esta unidad puede reproducir su música favorita sonido de pitido a la hora programada.
