ElectroniCast Consultants, a leading market & technology forecast consultancy, today announced their market forecast of the worldwide consumption of organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) in lighting applications. OLED Description An organic light-emitting diode (OLED) is a light-emitting diode (LED) in which the emissive electroluminescent layer is a film of organic compounds, which emit light in response to an electric current. This layer of organic semiconductor material is situated between two electrodes. Generally, at least one of these electrodes is transparent. Lighting Applications The definition for lighting in this study includes general lighting, which is used to provide the main illumination of an area. The lighting category also includes specialized lighting, such as directional, supplementary, and architectural lighting, as well as OLED panels/tiles used in vehicles for the main

11 purpose of lighting. However, OLEDs used in signage, TVs, displays, and signals are not included in the market forecast data for this study. The increasing development of OLED technology in lighting is indeed encouraging, driven by the architectural lighting industry; therefore, full cooperation and partnerships with between the OLED device manufacturers and the architectural industry is of paramount importance, based on analysis by ElectroniCast Consultants.
