AMON SE is the ideal mobile recording interface for both laptop and desktop computers. It offers 2 input and 2 output channels in a solid, portable and stylish unit that provides means for connecting microphones or musical instruments to any computer running Mac OS X or Windows. AMON SE is built and designed with remarkable mic-preamp and Hi-Z input quality. It is the perfect solution for playback and high quality vocal recording of condenser or dynamic microphones on the road. It is also designed for recording electronic instruments such as guitars and bass guitars as well. 3 2. Overview 2. Overview 2.1 Front panel 2.2 back panel ❶ XLR microphone connector The XLR input on channel 1 is equipped with a custom high quality microphone preamplifier. The preamp works great with all types of microphones including dynamic, ribbon and condenser microphones. The +48V phantom power switch is located at the back panel of AMON SE. ❶ USB Type B connector is compatible with all types of USB ports (1.1, 2.0, and 3.0). AMON SE is designed to work perfectly on USB bus power and it doesn t require external power supply. ❷ +48V Phantom power switch Turn the switch on when you need phantom power supply for your condenser microphone. Caution: Always remember to turn off the +48V phantom power supply before connecting some dynamic or ribbon microphones. Only unbalanced 1/4 phone jack cable is suitable for this Hi-Z input ❹ Headphone connector This is where you connect stereo headphones with a 1/4 stereo TRS jack plug. ❺ Headphone volume control knob The volume knob controls the headphone output amplifier. The headphone amplifier is quite powerful, so use the maximum setting with extreme caution ❸ COAX OUT You can connect digital monitor speakers, recorders, AV amplifiers with this coaxial digital output. ❹ LINE OUT These output connectors are balanced 1/4 TRS type sockets, which can be connected to any mixing board, power amplifier, powered studio monitor, recorder or any other stereo unbalanced linelevel inputs. 2.3 Top panel 1) MIC / Hi-Z Peak LED The Peak LEDs illuminate red, if the input signal is over the clipping point. If the red peak LED lights up frequently or stays lit for any period of time, lower the input gain level with the input gain control knob to avoid unwanted distortion. 2) +48V Phantom power LED This red LED provides visual feedback about the status of phantom power. 3) Power LED The power LED illuminates red if AMON SE and your computer are connected properly 2 AMON SE OWNER S Manual 3

Hardware Setup 3.3 Hi-Z connection 1) Plug in the 1/4 TS jack to the Hi-Z socket on the front panel. 2) You can control the input gain with the rotating knob right next to the Hi-Z socket. <Hi-Z connection> 3.4 Headphone connection 1. Plug in the bundled USB cable to AMON SE and your PC or MAC. 2. Connect your choice of audio devices (mixer, monitoring speaker, microphone, etc.) to AMON SE. 3.1 Connection AMON SE to your PC <Headphone connection> 3.5 Line Out Connection (Line / Coaxial) 1) AMON SE supports 1/4 TRS stereo headphones and you can control the headphone output level with the Volume control knob right next to the headphone socket. The headphone amplifier is quite powerful, so use the maximum setting with extremeaution. 1) Plug USB 2.0 cable into USB port on the rear panel of AMON SE & your PC or MAC. <USB cable connection> 3.2 Microphone connection <XLR cable connection> 1) Plug in the XLR jack to the MIC socket on the front panel. 2) If you intend to use condenser microphone, turn on the +48V hantom power switch on the rear panel after connecting the microphone with the XLR jack cable Note: Make sure to check both the XLR cable and condenser microphone are connected properly, before turning on the phantom power switch. <Line out> <Coaxial out> 1) Line Out (Unbalanced) > Output for mixer, recording gear or monitoring speaker. 2) The digital coaxial connector provides standard SPDIF output at 44.1 or 48kHz sampling rate at 16 or 24 bit resolution. 4 AMON SE OWNER S Manual 5

5 4. Driver Installation 4. Driver Installation In this chapter, we are going to explain how to install the driver and control panel for AMON SE on your PC. If you encounter any problem or difficulty during the software installation, please feel free to contact our support team at Also please visit our website for the latest driver for your convenience Windows Driver Installation 1) Please insert the enclosed driver disc into your optical drive. Open Driver\AMON SE_DRIVER_WIN folder and double click the Setup file for installation. Simply follow the displayed instructions to complete the rest of installation process. NOTE: Please select the proper driver version according to your Windows version 2) Please select Next for starting the installation 3) Please select the destination folder location. (Default folder is recommended) 4) Installation will be complete after clicking Finish 4.3 Control panel 1) AMON SE Logo AMON SE logo changes if AMON SE is connected to the computer properly. 2) Monitoring Enables analog zero latency monitoring of the Microphone and/or Hi-Z inputs. 3) Volume faders Control the volume level of Inputs & Outputs. 4) Indicator Indicates the volume level settings. 5) Mute Mutes the selected channel. 6) Link If you enable the link button, volume faders are connected and can be move together. 7) Latency bar Adjust the latency of AMON SE. The lower the latency, the more real-time the audio output appears to be, but the audio performance is strongly related to the PC s processing power. As a rule of thumb, make sure, that the latency of AMON SE is set higher than the average DPC latency of your computer to avoid digital noise in the audio signal flow. 4.2 OS X Driver Installation 1) Please insert enclosed driver disc into your optical drive. Navigate to the Driver\AMON SE_DRIVER_ MAC folder and double click Infrasonic_AMON SE_Driver_*.*.*.dmg file, which creates a new AMONE SE control panel icon. 2) The new folder and icon of AMON SE will be created automatically and the control panel can be started after clicking the AMON SE icon. 8) Stereo Mix This feature enables AMON SE to mix down all outputs from different audio applications and record it at once just as you hear it on the outputs of AMON SE, hence the Stereo Mix feature is also called What you hear. 6 5. FAQ 5. FAQ 1. AMON SE is not recognized by your computer. AMON SE is specified for generic USB 2.0 port at 500 ma minimum power output. Some USB 2.0 ports on certain computers do not meet the minimum requirements. If you are using a USB hub, that can also cause problems. In case you encounter unexpected disconnections or fail to connect AMON SE completely, we strongly suggest you to use the included USB 2.0 cable and plug it directly into your computer s USB port on the motherboard. 2. AMON SE s control panel didn t launch automatically. When the installation of control panel was completed, the AMON SE control panel icon will be created on your windows system tray. If there are already many other icons allocated on your system tray, it might be hidden automatically by Windows. Otherwise opening Start > All Programs > INFRASONIC AMON SE > > AMON SE Control Panel might be the solution. 3. Connecting coaxial output to digital monitor speakers Please make sure your monitors are compatible with SPDIF output and support coaxial digital input. Please use coaxial cables as seen below for the connection between AMON SE and your monitors. Please note: zero latency monitoring is available only at the analog outputs. 6. I can t hear sound, but AMON SE is connected properly When AMON SE is connected to your PC properly and the driver is installed trouble free, you can see, that the AMON SE logo on its control panel started to glow. If you do not hear any sound output during playback of audio files or video clips, then please check the AMON SE has been selected as the default audio device for your OS. Open Start > Control Panel > Sound and check whether AMON SE has been properly configured as seen here. 4. What is Stereo Mix for? Stereo Mix feature enables AMON SE to mix down the audio output of your WDM applications on Windows and the guitar or microphone input simultaneously. With this feature, you can easily record your guitar/microphone input and sound played back by Windows audio driver together. It makes recording or IP broadcasting possible with ease. Stereo Mix is enabled simply by the click of a button: <STEREO MIX> 5. About Latency and Buffers When converting audio information to digital and back to analog, the audio driver needs to sore the data in a temporary buffer, then sent to and processed by the CPU. The higher the buffer size, the longer it takes for a signal to finally arrive at the output as audio. You might experience this as delayed response between hitting a key on a controller which controls music software on your PC and hearing the sound at the output. Lower latency needs more CPU processing and it might causes some noise during your workprocess. In this case, you should adjust the level of latency properly depending on your PC specifications. You cannot change the latency during audio processing and you might encounter an alert message as seen on the screenshot below. If you need to adjust the latency setting, please stop your current work, close all of your audio applications and then change the latency setting to the desired value. 8 AMON SE OWNER S Manual 9

10 2. 제품설명 3. 제품설치 2.3 Top panel 1) MIC/Hi-Z Peak LED MIC/Hi-Z 입력단자를통하여신호의크기가 0dB 를초과할경우 Peak led 가붉은색으로점등합니다. Peak led 가점등할경우입력되는신호의크기가과도하여오디오신호가손상될수있으니우측의 Gain 노브를조작하여입력신호의크기를조절하여주시기바랍니다. 2) +48V Phantom power LED 컨덴서마이크사용시팬텀파워동작여부를표시합니다. 제품후면의 +48V 스위치를 ON 으로움직이면동작합니다. 3) Power LED 컴퓨터와의 USB 연결여부를표시합니다. 정상적으로컴퓨터와연결되었을경우붉은색으로발광합니다. 3.1 컴퓨터 USB 연결 1) USB 케이블을컴퓨터의 USB 포트에연결합니다. 2) AMON SE 의뒷면에있는 USB 포트를확인합니다. 3) 동봉된 USB케이블 (Plug type series B) 을 AMON SE에연결합니다. 4) 사용하고자하는오디오장비 ( 믹서, 모니터링시스템, 마이크, 악기등등 ) 와 AMON SE 를연결합니다. 1) AMON SE 후면의 USB 포트에 USB 케이블을연결한후, 컴퓨터의 USB 단자에연결합니다. 2) 정상적으로연결될경우, AMON SE 상단의 Led 에불이들어오면서컴퓨터에서인식이됩니다. <USB 케이블연결 > 3.2 Microphone 연결 1) AMON SE 전면부의좌측입력단자에 XLR 단자를이용하여마이크를연결합니다 2) 컨덴서마이크를연결하실경우마이크를연결하신다음기기후면부의 +48V 스위치를 ON 으로하여주시기바랍니다. <XLR 케이블연결 > 3) 우측의 Gain 노브를이용하여입력신호의크기를조절하여주십시오. 주의 : 컨덴서마이크연결시기기의손상이있을수있음으로반드시마이크를먼저연결하신다음 +48V 스위치를켜주시기바랍니다. 16 AMON SE OWNER S Manual 17

12 4. 드라이버설치 5. FAQ 자주하는질문 4.2 Mac 드라이버설치 1) AMON SE 와함께동봉된 CD 를드라이버에넣어주십시오. Driver\AMON SE_DRIVER_MAC 폴더를선택한다음, Infrasonic_AMON SE_Driver_*.*.*.dmg 파일을열면, 새로운 AMON SE 컨트롤패널아이콘이생성됩니다. 2) 생성된폴더에서 INFRASONIC 아이콘을클릭하면컨트롤패널이활성화됩니다. 4.3 Control Panel 1) AMON SE 로고 AMON SE 가정상적으로컴퓨터에연결되면컨트롤패널의 AMON SE 로고에불이들어오며컨트롤패널이활성화됩니다. 2) Monitoring Input 를통해들어오는신호를모니터링합니다. 1. AMON SE 가컴퓨터에서정상적으로인식되지않습니다 AMON SE를컴퓨터에연결시, 컴퓨터전면부의 USB단자혹은 Hub 형태의 USB포트를사용하실경우기기로의전원공급이불안정하여인식및기타부분에서오동작이나타날수있으니, AMON SE 연결시에는가급적컴퓨터후면부의메인보드직렬 USB포트를사용하여주시기바랍니다. 2. AMON SE의컨트롤패널이자동으로실행되지않습니다. AMON SE 컨트롤패널설치시기본적으로 windows 트레이우측하단에컨트롤패널아이콘이생성되나, windows 트레이에다른많은아이콘이생성되어있을경우 windows에서오류가발생하여 AMON SE의컨트롤패널이자동으로실행되지않을수있습니다. 이럴경우 windows의시작메뉴 > 모든프로그램 >INFRASONIC AMON SE>AMON SE 클릭하여실행하여주시기바랍니다. 3. AMON SE 의하단부에 LATENCY 는무엇이며어떻게사용하는지궁금합니다. 레이턴시 (LATENCY) 는실행중인작업 ( 예 : 마이크를통해노래를부르는것 ) 과그것을듣게되는작업 ( 예 : 스피커를통해목소리를듣는것 ) 사이의지연현상 (DELAY) 를의미합니다. 보다높은버퍼사이즈와레이턴시가설정되면, 목소리를입력한뒤그것을듣게될때까지의시간이지연되게됩니다. 작은오디오버퍼의단점은 (AMON SE 의레이턴시를 2ms/4ms 등으로작게설정했을때 ) 사용중인컴퓨터에무리를줄수있다는것입니다. 선택한버퍼사이즈로작업도중컴퓨터가이를처리하지못할경우, 튀는음 (pop) 이나클릭 (click) 등의인공적인노이즈를듣게될것입니다. 이런경우, 오디오버퍼사이즈를높여서컴퓨터가실행중인작업량에원활하게대처할수있도록설정해야합니다. 오디오작업실행중에는레이턴시를변경할수없으며아래와같은경고메시지가나타납니다. 레이턴시조절이필요한경우현재컴퓨터에서실행중인오디오관련프로그램을모두종료하신뒤조절하시기바랍니다. 7.
