Purpose of the Course Sound exegesis is foundational to persuasive preaching. Working with 1 John, this course seeks to prepare those in proclamation ministry for the task of expository preaching. As such, the Pastoral Ministries Division and Biblical Studies Division desire to help develop proclamation skills in the area of New Testament epistles, word studies, and theological analysis all while remaining sensitive to the task of rightly dividing the Word of God. The work is aimed at providing a model upon which students can establish an effective life-discipline of study and sermon preparation. Core Values, And Curriculum Competencies Addressed Our seminary has five cores values: doctrinal integrity, spiritual vitality, mission focus, characteristic excellence, and servant leadership. This seminar relates in some way to all five core values, but especially mission focus which states in part: We are here to change the world by fulfilling the Great Commission and the Great Commandments through the local church and its ministries. The core value focus this academic year is Servant Leadership. NOBTS also has seven basic competencies that guide our Doctor of Ministry programs : Biblical Exposition, Christian Theological Heritage, Disciple Making, Interpersonal Skills, Servant Leadership, Spiritual and Character Formation, and Worship Leadership. This course especially addresses the Biblical Exposition competency by means of helping the student learn to interpret the Bible accurately. Course Description This seminar will examine the process of formulating a proper exegesis of a New Testament epistle. Consideration will be given to an analysis of the grammar, syntax and structure that is found in a selected text. Each student is expected to show intermediate proficiency in and to make use of the Greek text in all exegetical and sermon preparation work. 과목설명본세미나는신약성경서신서를바르게석의하는과정을다룹니다. 주로주어진본문의문법, 문장의배열과구조등을집중적으로분석검토합니다. 특히본세미나는요한일서를다루게되는데본문의구조와석의그리고신학적인관점에서본문의구조에상응하는강해설교를구성하는방법을중점적으로공부하게됩니다. 학생들은본문을해석하고설교를준비하는데헬라어를능숙하게다루어사용할수있기를기대합니다. Develop a broad understanding of the text through exegetical and homiletical commentaries on 1 John. 요한일서에대한주해및강해용주석들을통해본문에대한폭넓은이해를개발해야한다. 4. Learn to appreciate the value of New Testament epistles for preaching. 신약성경의서신서본문에대한설교적가치를인식하는것을배운다. 5. Develop sermons from 1 John that will incorporate the results of exegesis as well as application and interpretation in light of the contemporary setting. 현시대의맥락속에서적용및해석그리고주해의결과들을통합하여요한일서로부터설교문을개발할수있어야한다. Lectures by the professors will provide the basis for movement from subject to subject within the seminar. 교수의강의가세미나내에서토의주제를제공하는근거가될것이다. 3. 3 Note: The class will utilize variety methodologies including lecture, students' presentation, discussion,question and answer, etc. 강의는교수강의, 학생들의발표, 토론, 질의응답으로진행됩니다. Assignments 과제물들 Before the Seminar: 세미나전과제물 Students are expected to have read the text of 1 John through 5 times. Read 1 John five times in its entirety, preferably in one sitting each time. 요한일서를 5 번정독하시기바랍니다. 한글과영어로읽으시고어려운부분은헬라어로읽어서분명히본문을이해하시기바랍니다. Five Outline Sermon Manuscripts Each Student will study five selected paragraphs randomly assigned by professor and will develop each outline sermon manuscript on the paragraphs including key points for the presentation during class. Each student will prepare copies of outline for other students including professor. 각학생들은본인에게할당된본문을읽고설교 outline 을작성하시기바랍니다. Outline 에는 Key Point 가반드시포함되어야합니다. 수업은각본문에대한학생들의발표와토론그리고교수의강의순서로진행이됩니다. 그리고교수와학생용 outline 에대한 copy 를준비해주시기바랍니다. 4 18 5: : :21 Presentation: 발표 Students will take 5 presentations on outline sermon manuscripts assigned to him/her during classes. Each presentation contributes 80 points, thus total 400 points. 학생들은본인에게할당된본문에대한설교개요에대해서발표합니다. 1 번에 80 점, 총 400 점이배정됩니다. Attendance: 출석 This category contributes 100 points. If a student is absent from more than 6 (50 minute) Class meetings, he/she will not receive credit for the course. The permitted absences (e.g., due to a death in the family, illness, or other emergencies) must be noted in writing and given to the instructor in the class period immediately following the absence. When they are accepted, they will not count against the student for purpose of grading, though they still will count toward the total absences allowed by the instructor. For grading purposes, 10 points for one absence for a class will be deducted.
