Keep it in a safe place for future reference. 2 Install this sound system in a well ventilated, cool, dry, clean place - away from direct sunlight, heat sources, vibration, dust, moisture, and/or cold. For proper ventilation, allow the following minimum clearances (excludes a TV placed on top of this unit). Top: 10 cm, Rear: 10 cm, Sides: 10 cm 3 Locate this unit away from other electrical appliances, motors, or transformers to avoid humming sounds. 4 Do not expose this unit to sudden temperature changes from cold to hot, and do not locate this unit in an environment with high humidity (i.e. a room with a humidifier) to prevent condensation inside this unit, which may cause an electrical shock, fire, damage to this unit, and/or personal injury. 5 Avoid installing this unit where foreign object may fall onto this unit and/or this unit may be exposed to liquid dripping or splashing. On the top of this unit, do not place: Other components, as they may cause damage and/or discoloration on the surface of this unit. Burning objects (i.e. candles), as they may cause fire, damage to this unit, and/or personal injury. Containers with liquid in them, as they may fall and liquid may cause electrical shock to the user and/or damage to this unit. 6 Do not cover this unit with a newspaper, tablecloth, curtain, etc. in order not to obstruct heat radiation. Use a clean, dry cloth. 12 Only voltage specified on this unit must be used. Yamaha will not be held responsible for any damage resulting from use of this unit with a voltage other than specified. 13 To prevent damage by lightning, keep the power cable and outdoor antennas disconnected from a wall outlet or this unit during a lightning storm. 14 Do not attempt to modify or fix this unit. Contact qualified Yamaha service personnel when any service is needed. The cabinet should never be opened for any reasons. 15 When not planning to use this unit for long periods of time (i.e. vacation), disconnect the AC power plug from the wall outlet. 16 Be sure to refer to the Troubleshooting section of the Owner s Manual on the CD-ROM for common operating errors before concluding that this unit is faulty. 17 Before moving this unit, press A to set it to standby mode and disconnect the AC power plug from the wall outlet. 18 Condensation will form when the surrounding temperature changes suddenly. Disconnect the power cable from the outlet, then leave this unit alone. 19 When using this unit for a long time, this unit may become warm. Turn the power off, then leave this unit alone for cooling. 20 Install this unit near the AC outlet and where the AC power plug can be reached easily. 21 The batteries shall not be exposed to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire or the like. When you dispose of batteries, follow your regional regulations. 22 Excessive sound pressure from earphones and headphones can cause hearing loss. 23 Keep the product out of reach of children to avoid them swallowing small parts. This unit is not disconnected from the AC power source as long as it is connected to the wall outlet, even if this unit itself is turned off by A. This state is called the standby mode. In this state, this unit is designed to consume a very small quantity of power. WARNING TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE OR ELECTRIC SHOCK, DO NOT EXPOSE THIS UNIT TO RAIN OR MOISTURE. 3 Notes on remote controls and batteries Do not spill water or other liquids on the remote control. Do not drop the remote control. Do not leave or store the remote control in the following conditions: places of high humidity, such as near a bath places of high temperatures, such as near a heater or stove places of extremely low temperatures dusty places Insert the battery according to the polarity markings (+ and -). Change all batteries if you notice the following conditions: the operation range of the remote control narrows If the batteries run out, immediately remove them from the remote control to prevent an explosion or acid leak. If you find leaking batteries, discard the batteries immediately, taking care not to touch the leaked material. If the leaked material comes into contact with your skin or gets into your eyes or mouth, rinse it away immediately and consult a doctor. Clean the battery compartment thoroughly before installing new batteries. Do not use old batteries together with new ones. This may shorten the life of the new batteries or cause old batteries to leak. Do not use different types of batteries (such as alkaline and manganese batteries) together. Danger of explosion may happen if batteries are incorrectly replaced. Specification of batteries may be different even though they look the same. Before inserting new batteries, wipe the compartment clean. Keep batteries away from children. If a battery is accidentally swallowed, contact your doctor immediately. When not planning to use the remote control for long periods of time, remove the batteries from the remote control. Do not charge or disassemble the supplied batteries. To view the Owner s Manual, click on English in the screen displayed automatically when you insert the CD-ROM into your PC, or click on the model name if the screen to select models is displayed, and then click on English in the next screen. 4 About this Quick Reference Guide The Quick Reference Guide provides instructions for connecting a TV and BD/DVD player to the unit, applying settings, and playing content. For more information on operations, refer to the Owner s Manual in the supplied CD-ROM. Read the safety instructions described in this booklet before using the unit. For instructions on how to operate or set the external devices, refer to the owner s manual supplied with each devices. 5 Preparing remote control Before installing batteries or using the remote control, be sure to read battery and remote control precautions in this booklet. 6 a Installation Place the unit on a flat surface, such as the top of a TV stand, and then place the TV on top of the unit. When installing this unit on a rack behind which there is limited space, for example, it may be easier to connect external devices to this unit first. See page 8 for information regarding the connection of external devices. Notes Be sure to install this unit on a large, stable stand where it does not fall subject to vibrations, such as from an earthquake, and where it is out of the reach of children. Do not raise the antenna until after the TV is placed on top of the unit. The antenna, the unit, the TV, and any other devices in the near vicinity may be damaged if the TV snags the antenna when it is placed on top of the unit. Take all necessary precautions to prevent this from happening as it may lead to unexpected injury. The unit s speakers are not magnetically shielded. Do not install hard disk drives or similar devices near the unit. Do not stack the unit directly on top of other playback devices, or vice versa. Heat and vibrations may result in damage or malfunction. Never fix the unit to a wall or other surface using a fall prevention device, such as wire or bracket, supplied with the TV. Doing so may cause the unit fall together with the TV if an accident such as an earthquake occurs. Read the instruction manual of your TV carefully and fix the TV to a wall or sturdy object following the instruction. Recommended place for installation TVs that can be placed on the unit are flat-screen TVs that weigh no more than 40 kg (88.1 lbs), have bases no wider than 750 mm (29-1/2") and no deeper than 340 mm (13-3/8"), and have screens no larger than 55 inches.* 1 Place the TV so that its base does not protrude from the unit s edges. * 2 Do not install the unit near a corner of the room. * 1 CRT TVs cannot be placed on the unit. * 2 If the TV base is too large to fit on top of the unit, place the unit in another location such as on an open shelf. In that case, make sure that the shelf is well-ventilated with enough clearance around the unit to prevent the heat from accumulating inside the unit. The listening position (such as sofa, etc.) should be located at the front of the unit. The distance between the listening position and the unit should be more than 2 m (6.6 ft). To achieve the optimal surround sound effects, be sure that obstacles such as furniture may not obstruct the path of sound beams (p. 7). 6 En a Installation

7 Unit installation position and surround sound effects The unit achieves surround sound by reflecting sound beams off walls. Raising the antenna Raise the antenna on the rear panel of the unit when connecting a wireless router (access point) to use a network. Hold the base of the antenna while raising it to its upright position. Effective surround effect may not be achieved in the following environment. Sound beams are blocked by obstacles such as furniture. The room size is not within the following dimensions; Width: 3 meters to 7 meters (9.8 ft to 23 ft) Depth: 3 meters to 7 meters (9.8 ft to 23 ft) Height: 2 meters to 3.5 meters (6.6 ft to 11.5 ft) Listening position is too close to the unit. The unit is installed too close to the left or right wall. The unit is installed in the corner of the room. There is no wall for reflecting sound beam on the path of the sound beams. Do not apply excessive force on the antenna. Doing so may damage it. Be sure to check the direction in which the antenna moves, and angle it in the proper direction. Do not remove the antenna. For details on the wireless connection, refer to page 31 in the Owner s Manual. The optimum surround sound effect is achieved by setting a position according to the installation position of the unit. For details, refer to c Surround sound effect for the installation position (p. 10). a Installation En 7

8 b Connections Connecting a TV and BD/DVD player For the cable connection, follow the procedure below. See page 15 in the Owner s Manual when connecting other playback devices such as a game console. Video signals Audio signals HDMI INPUT OPTICAL OUTPUT TV 1 HDMI cable (optional) The digital audio/video signals from the BD/DVD player are input to this unit. 2 HDMI cable (optional) Digital video from the BD/DVD player is displayed on the TV. BD/DVD player HDMI OUTPUT Use an optical cable when connecting a TV that does not support Audio Return Channel. 1. Remove the cap This unit supports HDCP version 2.2, a copy protection technology. To enjoy playback of 4K video, connect the unit to the HDMI IN jack (one compatible with HDCP 2.2) on an HDCP 2.2-compliant TV Check the direction of the plug 3 To an AC wall outlet Audio Return Channel (ARC) supported TV Connect an HDMI cable to the audio return channel supported jack (the jack with ARC indicated) on TV. Enable the HDMI control function of this unit to activate the Audio Return Channel (ARC). See page 50 in the Owner s Manual. HDMI IN OUT(ARC) NETWORK TV ANALOG SUBWOOFER OUT UPDATE ONLY What is Audio Return Channel (ARC)? A function transmits digital audio signal output from TV to this unit through an HDMI cable. By this function, an optical cable to connect TV and this unit is not needed. For a wired network connection, connect one end of the network cable to the NETWORK jack on the rear panel of the unit and the other end to a router. 9 Turning on the unit 1 Press the z key. When the unit is turned on for the first time after purchase, the indicator on the front panel will flash slowly. The screen below will be displayed on the TV when the TV is turned on. Flashes slowly Share Wi-Fi Settings You can share the wireless (Wi-Fi) settings of the network with Sound Projector using a device with ios7 or later. [ENTER]:Start [RETURN]:Cancel [ ]:OSD Language Connecting the unit to a wireless network 1 Press the ENTER key. The screen below is displayed. Share Wi-Fi Settings Make sure your ios device is connected to your Wi-Fi network, and then open the Wi-Fi settings screen of your ios device. [ENTER]:Confirm [RETURN]:Cancel ENTER RETURN When the screen is not displayed, use the input button on the TV s remote control to switch input so that video input from this unit is displayed. When this unit is connected to the TV as shown on page 8, select HDMI 1. The language used for menu display (OSD Language) can be selected from the screen shown above. Use the / key to select the language, and follow the on-screen instructions. The OSD language can also be changed from the setup menu at any time. Press and hold the SETUP key until the OSD Language menu is displayed on the TV, and use the / key to select the language. Press the SETUP key to exit the setup menu. While this screen is displayed, an ios device (such as an iphone) can be used to easily connect the unit to a wireless network. Follow the procedure Connecting the unit to a wireless network on this page. If you will not use an ios device to connect to a wireless network, press the RETURN key and proceed to c Surround sound effect for the installation position. You need ios device with ios 7.1 or later. Before proceeding, confirm that your ios device is connected to a wireless router (access point). 2 Press the ENTER key. 3 Display the Wi-Fi setup screen on the ios device and select the unit from SETUP A NEW AIRPLAY SPEAKER.... ios (an example of English version) This screen will not be displayed and the indicator will not flash if the unit is connected to a router via its NETWORK jack (wired connection). See page 30 in the Owner s Manual for wireless network connection methods other than Share Wi-Fi Settings, or for more information regarding wired and wireless networks. 10 4 Select the network (access point) of which you want to share the settings with the unit. ios (an example of English version) Tap here to start setup The network currently selected The name of the unit You can use this function to connect to a wireless network at any time by selecting Share Wi-Fi Settings (ios) from the setup menu. However, be aware that if a different wireless network, or a Bluetooth device, has already been configured, doing so will erase any previous settings. c Surround sound effect for the installation position The surround sound is achieved by reflecting the sound beams off walls as shown in the illustration below. For optimum surround effect, turn on the unit and select the POSITION key according to the installation position of the unit. 1 Hold down the POSITION key that corresponds to the installation position of the unit for more than 3 seconds. The indicators on the front panel flash according to the set position. 11 d Playback Enjoying TV 1 Select the desired TV channel. 2 Press the TV key. 5 Press the VOL (+/-) key to adjust the volume. When the volume is adjusted, indicators on the front panel indicate volume level. The number of lighted indicators increases when the volume is turned up, and decreases when the volume is turned down. HDMI TV Surround mode keys VOLUME (+/-) When audio is output from the TV speaker, set TV s audio output to any option other than TV. See the instructions manual of TV for more information. HDMI control function You can use the TV remote control to operate this unit if your TV supports the HDMI control function. See page 19 in the Owner s Manual. Playing a DVD or BD The following explains the playback procedure when this unit is connected to the TV and BD/DVD player as shown in Connecting a TV and BD/DVD player (p. 8). 1 Turn on the TV and BD/DVD player connected to this unit. 2 Press the HDMI key to select the BD/DVD player as the input source. Indicator on the front panel Volume down ( ) Volume up (+) 6 Press one of the surround mode keys according to your preferences. See page 22 in the Owner s Manual for details. When this unit does not play back, check the following The unit and BD/DVD player are connected correctly. The audio output settings of the BD/DVD player is set to digital sound output (bitstream). The TV s input is switched to this unit. Glows 3 Use the TV s remote control to switch the TV s input to HDMI 1. 4 Play back a DVD or BD on the BD/DVD player. The unit is equipped with a number of other functions not described in this booklet. See the Owner s Manual for details. Para impedir explosiones o pérdidas de ácido, retire inmediatamente las pilas del mando a distancia cuando se hayan gastado. Si encuentra pilas con fugas, deséchelas inmediatamente, procurando no tocar el material que sale de las pilas. Si el material que sale de las pilas entra en contacto con su piel o entra en sus ojos o boca, lávese inmediatamente y acuda a un médico.
