The answers to life's challenges, especially those that involve purpose, meaning, and happiness are not found in material things or by searching the Internet. Many things in life require a journey of the heart and the acquisition of wisdom. When one acquires wisdom, one acquires priceless wealth. Sadly, pursuing wisdom is not valued by our world these days. Examining our lives, pondering the bigger questions, relecting on where we have been and where we are going, are invaluable exercises that not only bring us wisdom but open our eyes to God's presence. Those who seek wisdom shall not be disappointed and will always be ready for whatever comes their way. 2018Care & Share Assessment $ 77,968.00 2018 Remaining Care & Share $ 27,177.54 as of 11/5/2017

The foolish versus the wise. Today's parable sets these two groups in stark contrast to one another. Two crowds of young women wait for a wedding feast. One group comes prepared for the unexpected, the other just assumes everything will go according to schedule. But it doesn't! The Bridegroom is late, and the foolish virgins are left out in the darkliterallywhile the wise ones enjoy the feast inside. The lesson here is not just about having foresight and gathering the corresponding equipment. It's about being ready for the second coming of Christ. Jesus himself is the "Bridegroom." Traditionally we refer to the Church as the "Bride of Christ" and we, as the people of God who constitute the Church, are even now awaiting the real feast, the culmination of time when Jesus returns. But are we standing among the wise or the foolish as we wait? Jesus tells us today, "Stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour." Are we spiritually awake? Do we have extra oil to see us through, or are we hitting the bottom of the barrel and running on spiritual fumes so to speak? Do we think it's enough to do the bare minimum as we wait for Christstepping into church without really being present, or calling ourselves Christian without really taking up the challenge of the cross? In order to avoid standing outside the feast with the foolish, we will want to make sure we ill our lasks with oil or, in other words, ill our hearts with the love of God, ill our minds with his word and his teachings, and ill our souls with the virtues that unite us to his will. If we stock up on these important supplies, we can count ourselves among the wise! HYPOTHERMIA Children, the elderly and people with poor circulatory systems are at particular risk for hypothermia or frostbite. The Department of Health offers the following tips to help residents cope with winter conditions when outside: Dress for the cold weather by wearing coats, hats (as much as 50% of body heat is lost through the head), scarves or knit masks to cover the face and mouth, and gloves or mittens. Wear waterproof boots, shoes and gloves. Dress in layers of looseitting clothes, including extra socks. Wool, silk or polypropylene inner layers hold in more body heat than cotton. Avoid cotton clothing for winter activities. Prepare for the unexpected. Most problems with hypothermia occur because of an unexpected change in the weather or temperature. Avoid getting wet when the temperature dips. Drink plenty of water. Please Support our Advertiser of the Week
From Jan DON T GIVE YOUR OIL AWAY! In today s Gospel we hear of the wise virgins who refused to give their oil to the foolish virgins. What is our oil? It is the light that shines in us so all can see God s marvelous deeds. It is the peace knowing that what God has given us to do is exactly what we are called to do. It is what makes us oneofa kind, flavoring everything we do with our unique gifts. Pope Benedict XVI, March 25, 2007: Every person carries within himself a project of God, a personal vocation, a personal idea of God on what he is required to do in history to build his Church, a living Temple of his presence. Father Solanus Casey, a Capuchin, will be beatified November 18 in Detroit, Michigan, the second American male to be beatified. His oil was used to start a soup kitchen in Detroit in 1929 and to intercede for countless people in their time of need physical or spiritual. We can t borrow or buy someone else s oil and expect to be true to ourselves. This oil is already within us to be used on what brings Christ s light to the world.
