STARS JAM with FAM MONTH OF APRIL MV: 1 PETER 1:3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation. SUNDAY. April 18, 2021 Read: Proverbs 18 (NLT) Lyle was a popular person. Everyone liked him at school. He could always say a funny thing at just the right time and he knew how to act in any group that he was in. The group at school he most enjoyed was a fun-loving party bunch. They had the best parties, clothes, cars, and houses. The trouble was that Lyle was a Christian but nobody else in this group was. As a result, they wanted to do things he felt very uncomfortable with. They listened to heavy metal rock music that was definitely not Christian, experimented with alcohol, and talked about trying some new drug. Lyle wanted to be part of this group so badly that he tried to ignore the things they were doing while still being a part of the group. But, Lyle found this harder and harder to do. It was just easier to give in and try the stuff they were doing. Fortunately, Lyle had a good friend who was also a Christian. This friend loyally warned Lyle of the wrongs this group was leading him into. At last, Lyle left the group. TALK TIME: Read v24 aloud How can friends ruin us? What should we look for in a friend? MONDAY. April 19, 2021 Read: Proverbs 19 (NLT) Ross was the kind of guy everyone respected. He made it very clear that he was a Christian and he lived a life that backed it up. No one made fun of his faith because they knew that he treated them well because of what he believed. That's why everyone was surprised when Ross found out that he had a bad heart. Even at his young age, he would have to undergo openheart surgery. Many of his friends expected to see Ross' faith crumble, but instead they saw it strengthen. Ross knew that God made him, knew him, and loved him. He also knew that nothing could ever change those three facts. Even in the midst of the frightening surgery he had to face, he was deeply content. Read v 23 again TALK TIME: How does respect for the Lord cause us to be content? He had wanted that CD so badly. Now he finally had it! Listening to it the first time, he felt enthusiastic about having it. But as he listened to it the second time, he began to feel awful. Derek knew that what he had done was wrong. In fact, it began to bother his conscience so much that he couldn't even enjoy listening to it anymore. He decided to return it to his friend. WEDNESDAY. April 21, 2021 Read: Proverbs 21 (NLT) When communism came to China, a great persecution began toward many, including Christians. A great many people were imprisoned or killed for their faith. The communist goal was to make sure that they controlled all the practicing religions in their country, which meant that the state was worshiped, not God. For years it seemed that they were successful, but then in the 198o's when communication was opened freely with the West, we found out that Christianity had not been eradicated. In fact, it had increased. What the communists found out was that they could destroy church buildings and even kill Christians, but they could not remove Christ from people's hearts. That is the great assurance we have. Nothing can ever take away our relationship with Christ. It is the one thing in the crumbling world that lasts. TALK TIME: Read v30 again. Why can no human system annihilate Christianity? WEDNESDAY. What does that mean to us?
THURSDAY. April 22, 2021 Read: Proverbs 22 (NLT) One of the most important things you will ever have is not your phone, your intelligence, your good looks, nor your wealth. Your most valuable things God has given you is your name. When your name is mentioned, do they laugh and remember all the foolish things you have done, and because of your past, refuse to take anything you do seriously? Or are you always remembered positively because of your concern and care for others? What we do or say usually burns an impression in people s mind of who they think we are, and what they think of us and our character. It is an impression that is difficult to change or erase from memory. Most of the references in the Bible using name have to do with God s name. All through the Bible, His name has earned others respect. His name stands for justice, holiness, love and grace. He is the one who can do the impossible and the one to go to in time of need. The Bible also tells us that Jesus name is above every name and at the mention of His name, every knee in heaven, on earth and under the earth and every tongue will confess that He is Lord! Our lives impact many. The value others put on our name often dictates how we will be treated. It may affect friendships, or even who will agree to help us. Others opinions and thoughts when our name is mentioned have a lot to do with whom we are and who we will be. TALK TIME: Read v.1 again What do others think when they remember you? How would you like to be remembered as a Christian? THURSDAY. FRIDAY. April 23, 2021 Read: Proverbs 23 (NLT) The Bible reminds us that we must love and care for our parents. Our parents provide us with love, food, a home; they drive us here and there, throw us parties, and wash our clothes. What do we do for them? When we stop to think about it, it can feel like there s so little we can do for our parents. Even when we get older and we re able to provide for them, it may feel like we re never really able to repay them for everything they have done for us. But the Bible shows us that one of the ways that our parents are delighted by us is to be righteous and to be wise. When we live this way, it is something that our parents can delight in. God has given us our family so that we can love one another, both when its easy, as well as when its hard. But the things that make our parents the most proud is not the grades we make nor the trophies we win but rather the person that we become. FRIDAY. SATURDAY. April 24, 2021 Read: Proverbs 24 (NLT) As Mother came through the back door, she heard a crash that sounded like glass shattering. She ran to where the sound had come from and found her two daughters standing over her best china - now just a pile of broken pieces. Anita looked at her little sister, Paula. "O.K., who wants to tell me about this?" Mother asked, her eyes smoldering with anger and frustration. "Paula dropped them, Mom. She was carrying them to the dining room table for a tea party," Anita answered quickly. Paula burst into tears and hugged her mother's leg. "I'm sorry, Mommy. I didn't mean to." "I know you didn't, Paula. But you know you are not to touch my china. You will have to pay for part of this out of your allowance." Anita looked at her sister as guilt pulled at her heart. "Mom," she said quietly. "It's my fault. I told her to do it." Mother hugged her girls and thanked them for their honesty. They still lost some of their allowance but they knew they had done the right thing. SATURDAY.
