4 IST Library & Information Literacy Center Our Mission The IST Library is a friendly place where our community is inspired and challenged to think critically, read widely, act ethically, value creativity, and defend the right to access information. Library Week News & Photos Panda Book Awards have been revealed! Stop by and see the winners! Many students rushed to the library each day during the week to answer quiz questions over this year s Panda Books for a chance to win prizes! Thank you to all the parents, teachers, and students that visited the Book Fair to support the IST Library and building a community of readers. We had a great selection of books on sale for all ages. We also promoted literacy in elementary and secondary by having a Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) time. Many classes had special guest readers throughout the week and spent time getting lost in books. Parent Book Club October 31 st at 10am. Our next Parent Book Club book is The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. We have copies in English, Chinese, French, and Korean, to borrow from the library. Join us for coffee, tea, snacks, and a book discussion. Athletics News We had six students compete in ISAC Cross Country Championships last Saturday. Running groups were large in each category, with students competing against up to fifty runners at times.

It was a gorgeous day and our students represented IST in a way to make us all proud. Well done!

After beating WAB during pool play, the varsity team went head-to-head with the Canadian International School of Beijing in the finals.

In the end CISB came out ahead, but it couldn t have been better preparation for the team as they look toward ACAMIS in one month. Congratulations to our high school boys for their 2nd place finish.

The girls started the day by beating TEDA in three sets before playing a tough 5 set match against DCB. Unfortunately, the IST girls lost a nail biter 17 15 in the last set.

Running groups were large in each category, with students competing against up to fifty runners at times. Congratulations to Gael Oudot, Violaine Sautel (our only MS representative!), Harry Wang and Sigge Centreman on a fantastic race, with honorable mention to Hannah Barnes (4th place) and Hugh Lobsey (1st place). Each student ran to the best of their ability and we gained a few personal best times for their respective distances. It was a gorgeous day and our students represented IST in a way to make us all proud. Well done! The U19 Boys Volleyball Team put forth considerable effort and played great volleyball at our recent ISAC Tournament at Tianjin International School. After beating WAB during pool play, the varsity team went head-to-head with the Canadian International School of Beijing in the finals. With consistent and effective serving, and continued communication on the court, the Blaze fought hard, even winning a set in the third game. In the end CISB came out ahead, but it couldn t have been better preparation for the team as they look toward ACAMIS in one month. Congratulations to our high school boys for their 2nd place finish. The IST High School Girls volleyball team demonstrated that they are not only skilled volleyball players but also athletes of character. The girls started the day by beating TEDA in three sets before playing a tough 5 set match against DCB. Unfortunately, the IST girls lost a nail biter in the last set. This was a difficult loss as IST had multiple opportunities to win the match but were unable to come away with the win. However, the girls demonstrated great resilience by picking themselves back up, both emotionally and physically, and beat WAB easily in three straight sets to take 3rd place over all in the tournament. The girls were also awarded the Sportsmanship trophy, which is voted on by all other coaches involved in the tournament. The IST varsity girls team has once again represented our community with hard play and integrity. Well done! On October 13th, the IST Middle School Badminton team attended their annual ISAC tournament. The girls were hosted by WAB while the boys played at BIBA. The players put in admirable effort, with all players working hard and demonstrating excellent sportsmanship. The girls teams played very well, with Nuonuo in grade 7 and Isabelle in grade 6 making their way to the quarterfinals in doubles play. The girls fell short of a win but demonstrated solid badminton skills/ technique and great spirit throughout the match. The boys played a singles format and were fearless in their matches despite their opponents who at times were older and stronger than our team. Overall the boys did well and can be proud of their effort. Our players represented IST admirably and we re very proud of their achievements! This weekend our MS football teams will head to Beijing for the annual ISAC MS Football tournaments. A reminder to confirm transportation and good luck to all of our student-athletes!
