Oxide Polishing Suspension & Powder Alumina Powder and Suspension Alumina 입자는 Fine polishing 에사용되는데일반적으로사용하는크기는 1, 0.3, 0.05 micron 이며 Suspension 또는 Powder 상태로사용한다. 종류는두가지로 Gamma 및 Alpha 가있다. Gamma 는 Alpha (MOHS 경도 9.0) 보다약간무르다. (MOHS 경도 8.0). Gamma alumina 는 Cubic crystal 구조인반면에 Alpha alumina 는 Hexagonal 구조를가지고있다. Alumina 는자체의우수한경도와내구성으로인해주로기계적인 Polishing 연마제로서사용된다. Alumina 는무른 Gamma (MOHS 8) 또는경한 Alpha (MOHS 9, 2000 HV) phase 으로되어있으며주로 Fine polishing 에사용되는데그이유는 SiC 와는달리높은경도와내구성을가지고있기때문이다. 그러나이입자는낮은 Cutting 속도와높은손상으로인하여 Metallographic applications 에서이상적이지는않다는점에유의하여야한다. 특히 0.05 μm은잔류응력제거용으로많이사용한다. 5
Alumina suspension and Alumina powder Alumina powder 는분말형태의 Alumina 로써순도 99.9% 로빠른시간에 Polishing 을마무리할수있다. ( 증류수에쉽게혼합사용 ) Alumina Suspension 은물과 Alumina powder 를섞은 Suspension type 으로써사용이편리하다. Monocrystalline 과 Polycrystalline 으로나뉘며 Polycrystalline diamond 는 Synthetic 과 Natural Monocrystalline diamond 와비교하여높은 Cutting 속도, 우수한입자크기의분포, 고강도, Blocky shaped, Hexagonal micro-crystallites, 거친표면, Mono-crystalline diamond 보다 300% 이상인표면적, 마찰저항이없는방향성등여러가지장점을가지고있다. Polishing 시 Diamond 의양은많은양을사용하지않아도높은연마속도를얻을수있으며, 속도를내기위한양의증가는 Grinding 을위한매우거친사용을제외하고는거의무의미하다.
