Unraveling a long silk thread from a cocoon is called silk reeling. Since the raw silk threads are very thin, ten of them need to be twisted together to make a thread that can be used for weaving a silk cloth. Therefore, ten threads must be simultaneously twisted together at a steady rate to prevent any irregularities from occurring in the width of the threads. - 7 -
If the water is too hot while the silk is being reeled, then the threads will become rough. If the water is not hot enough, then the threads will become coarse and not stick to each other when they are twisted into a single strand. This is why the temperature of the boiling water must be kept at the right temperature.
