In South Korea, I believe, they still hold the 으로 알고 있습니다만, 옛날에 체전의 캐치프레이즈는 항 National Athletic Meet every year. 2 쟈니앤후렌즈의대표쟈니여사와함께 / Mrs. Park poses with Joni, the founder & CEO of Joni and Friends 아내를돌보며장애인사역에헌신할수있었던것은전적으로하나님의은혜입니다. 우리하나님께서저에게건강과체력을주시지않았다면도저히여기까지올수없었을것입니다. 샬롬사역의롤모델이요, 저희의친구인쟈니앤후렌즈의대표쟈니여사는봉사자들덕분에남편켄에게 1 년에두번씩휴가를보내준다고합니다. 지난 2 월초에그분들을만날기회가있었는데전과동일한질문을하더군요. 돕는봉사자들이있느냐? 구요. 그러나한국사람들중에는그런헌신된봉사자들이없다고말하는것은좀자존심이상하는것같아이렇게대답했습니다. 감사하게도하나님께서저에게건강한몸을주셔서혼자서도아내를충분히간병할수있다 구요. 사실, 중증장애인을돌보는가족들에게는휴식이절대적으로필요합니다. 그나마식구들이여럿인가정에서는교대로간병할수있지만저희처럼다른식구들이전혀없는가정의경우보호자의건강및체력관리는정말중요한문제가아닐수없습니다. 전에도밝힌바와같이제아내는하나님께서남편보다자기를먼저불러달라는기도를매일빼놓지않습니다. 육신의한계를너무잘알기때문이죠. 한편, 저는하나님께서허락하시는동안아내를잘돌볼수있도록건강과체력을위해매일기도하며정기적으로운동을합니다. 차제에저희부부를위해기도는물론다음과같은 눅 14 벽화 를위해참여한주류사회장애우들과함께하는박사모 Mrs. Park poses for Luke 14 Mural with the mainstream friends with disabilities We can never over-emphasize the importance of health. Those with serious disability in particular, as well as their family members, live day by day, personally experiencing the importance of health and physical strength. In our case, my wife and I make strenuous effort to take care of our bodies as we earnestly pray because of the problem of her slow metabolism and my waist pain. Nevertheless, what we are so thankful for is the fact that there has not been a single day in the past 21 years since we lived in the U.S. when I was not able to tend to my wife. It was totally by God s grace that I was able to take care of my wife 7 days a week, 365 days a year without even a day of full rest, and at the same time devoting myself to the disability ministry. If our God had not given me health and strength, I would have never come this far. Joni, the founder & CEO of Joni and Friends who is also our friend and a role model to Shalom Ministry, says that she sends her husband on a vacation twice a year which is made possible by the help of volunteers. We had an opportunity to meet them this past early February, and they asked us the same question they had asked us before, Do you have any volunteers to help you? However, since I felt that it would slightly hurt my pride to admit that there are no such committed volunteers among the Koreans, I answered them like this, Thankfully, God gave me a healthy and strong body so I am fully capable of caring for my wife without anyone s help 24/7/365. Actually, the family members who care for a seriously disabled person absolutely need a break. In a family of many members, at least they can take turns in tending the disabled, but in a family like ours that has no one else to help out, health and strength management of the caregiver is a very serious matter. As I have mentioned previously, my wife does not skip a day praying that God would call her first to glory rather than her husband. It is because she knows the limitation of the human being. Meanwhile, I pray for my health and strength every day, and I exercise regularly so that I can take good care of my wife during my allotted time from God. Let me take this opportunity to sincerely thank everyone who has said to us, Pastor Park, please be healthy. If you are sick, what would happen to Mrs. Park and what would happen to the many disabled members? This March, my wife and I are celebrating our 38th wedding anniversary. And I, too, am reaching the age of senior(65) this year. I have arrived at an age when I have

7 86 20여년이 넘은 세월이 흘렀지만 LA에 도착한 저의 첫 인 상은 미국이 깨끗하지 않다는 생각입니다. 거리 곳곳에는 홈 레스들이 보이고 길가에 버려진 더러운 쓰레기들이 눈에 많 이 보였기 때문입니다. 최고의 선진국인 미국의 모습이 저 를 실망시킨 부분이었습니다. 지금도 간혹 길을 걷게 되면 깨끗한 곳을 찾아 발을 딛게 됩니다. 더러운 껌 자국의 흔적 들이 너무 많고 혹 잘못 밟으면 구두 바닥에 붙은 껌을 제거 하는데 어려움을 겪는 경험이 있었기 때문입니다. 예쁜 잔디 를 보면 여기 저기 버려진 개들의 배변을 보며 이것들이 있 어서 미국의 잔디들이 잘 자라고 있구나 하는 엉뚱한 생각 도 한 적이 있었습니다. 윷놀이 대상을 받는 시각장애인 신재남 권사님과 함께 / Posing with Mrs. Jae Nam Shin, the sight impaired who won the grand prize. 샬롬의 목요예배를 마친 후에는 가능하면 저는 교회 안 을 둘러 보고 나오게 됩니다. 간혹 있는 일이지만 사탕 껍질 이 눈에 보이고 마시던 컵도 그대로 놓여 있고 여기저기 버 려진 주보와 신문... 어쩌다 있는 일이지만 씹던 껌도 바닥 에 버리고 간 회원들이 있었습니다. 오래 전 일인데 테이블 을 정리하는 중에 테이블 밑에 붙어 있는 껌들을 보고 놀란 적이 있었습니다. 아니 누가?. 이런 행동을? 샬롬의 새 건물로 이사하기까지 우린 오랜 시간 함께 기 도하였습니다. 특별히 이 성전은 장애인들을 위해 주님이 주 신 선물이라는 확실한 간증이 우리 모두에게 있습니다. 예배 를 가장 중요시 하는 샬롬의 가족들의 마음을 아시는 하나님 께서 은혜로운 성전을 주셨습니다. 성경에는 성전 안에 있 는 물건들을 성물이라고 불렀습니다. 예배실과 예배를 위해 준비된 물건들을 깨끗이 잘 사용하면 좋겠습니다. 간혹 화 장실에 들어가면 힘든 휠체어 장애인들이 사용한 후라 여기 저기 휴지들이 떨어져 있는 것을 보게 됩니다. 몸이 불편하 여 휴지가 떨어져도 줍지 못하고 나오는 경우가 있다고 생 My first impression of America when I arrived in Los Angeles over 20years ago was that it was not a clean place. There were homeless people at every corner and there were a lot of trash thrown on the sidewalks. It was one area, in which America, the number one nation of the world disappointed me. Even now, when I walk on the street, I look for clean spots to put my foot down for the fear that I may make a wrong step. There are so many gum stuck on the ground and I have experienced how difficult it is to remove the gum stuck to my shoe. Looking at the beautiful lawn littered with dog poop, I wondered if that was the reason American grass grew so green and strong. After the Shalom s Thursday worship service, I look around the sanctuary as far as I can. This does not happen often but there are candy wrappers, used cups, bulletins, newspapers once I even found gum chewed and thrown away by a member. This happened a long time ago, but I found bunch of gums stuck under the table while cleaning the table. Who?... Is doing this? Until Shalom moved into the new building we had prayed for a long time. We had the assurance that this center was a special gift to the disabled from God. He knew the hearts of Shalom families who put worship first in their priority and gave us the blessed sanctuary. The Bible says things that are in the sanctuary are sacred.
