Our Bishop calls all to Prayer As we journey through the season of Easter, I would like to focus attention on sharing the power of prayer with our brothers and sisters, specifically prayer for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. In the short time that I have been in our Diocese I have come to understand that the need for more priestly vocations is at the top of our most critical issues for the future. Addressing this need first and foremost with prayer is critical, and for that I need your help. Each parish has received a few CD s and an MP3 download which includes a very brief introduction to prayer followed by me praying the first decade. The others follow me, each praying a decade or two. I encourage you to join us in prayer for priestly vocations. You can receive your CD at the Here to Help table in the Church Narthex and supplies are limited. For a free download as an MP3 file please visit https:// diocesetucson.org/communications/rosary-audio- Download.html If you or someone you know would like to explore a possible new career in ministry to others. If you have questions as to where God might be leading you, please contact Fr. John Gonzales at (520) 577-8780, Ext. 128 or by email jgonzales@diocesetucson.org or website https://diocesetucson.org/priesthood-second -Career/ Did I not tell you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God? Peter s Pence Collection Roman Catholic Diocese of Tucson Pastoral Center Offices P.O. Box 31 Tucson, Arizona, 85702 520-838-2500 Peter s Pence Collection June 29-30, 2019 We have to state, without mincing words, that there is an inseparable bond between our faith and the poor. May we never abandon them. (Pope Francis, Evangelium Gaudium,# 48) June 3, 2019 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, It is in the spirit of the words of our Holy Father, quoted above, that I encourage the faithful of the Diocese of Tucson to be generous in participating in the Peter s Pence Collection. This collection goes back to the early Christians as they provided material support to the disciples to be distributed to the poor. This tradition is carried on today as donations to this collection provide a source of funding for Pope Francis charitable work. It may seem at times that there is no end to our Church s requests to help those in need. Truly, this need is always with us. Perhaps our motivation can be, just as most of us normally have the means to meet our everyday needs, this is not the reality for people living in poverty here at home or around the world. This particular collection enables Pope Francis, representing all Catholics, to extend material help to our brothers and sisters on the margins of society, including victims of war, oppression, and natural disasters. In gratitude for our many gifts and as our brothers and sisters keepers, may we as a diocese once again respond in charity and generosity to this appeal. For more information about the Peter s Pence collection, visit www.usccb.org/peters-pence Thank you for answering the call to be a witness of charity. Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Edward J. Weisenburger Bishop of Tucson 9
