2 The Pastoral Council at their September 24th meeting discussed the new basketball hoop that was installed at the east end of the parking lot and the need for supervision when in use at a church/religious education event. A committee, headed by Kellie Cooper, is gathering ideas for decorating the Social Hall. Father Gossman shared information about the Archdiocese One appeal for Priest Retirement, Seminarian Education, Cathedral of St Raphael Church & Campus Repairs and Catholic Charities Immigration Legal Services. Information about the second annual Trunk or Treat was presented which will be held on Wednesday, October 30th from 6:15 to 7:00 PM. Our next meeting is October 22nd at 6:30 PM. During the Month of October, the Social Justice Committee will be accepting donations for Shoes That Grow. The beauty of these shoes is that each pair can be adjusted to grow an additional five sizes so each child is guaranteed to have shoes for several years. The shoes are constructed to last up to 10 years and cost just $20.00/pair. The shoes will be flown directly to an orphanage in Haiti which currently houses 150 children. If you can help, make checks out to St Patrick and write Shoes in the memo line. Donation envelopes and samples of the shoes can be found on the displays in the Parish Hall and North Entrance of the church. St Patrick/Newman gift card sales will be this weekend after mass. Get your cards now. Scrip makes great gifts and Christmas is only 10 weeks away! PRAYER FOR RESPECT OF LIFE God of life and love, you created us in your image and sent you Son to bring us life. Instill in us a respect for all life, from conception to natural death. Empower us to work for justice for the poor. Nourish us that we may bring food to the hungry. Inspire us to cherish the fragile life of the unborn. Strengthen us to bring comfort to the chronically ill. Teach us to treat the aging with dignity and respect. Bring us one day into the glory of everlasting life. We ask this through Christ our Lord. AMEN Our Advertiser of the Week: Thank you for supporting our advertisers. ADORATION TO BE HELD MONTHLY Adoration is an opportunity to come and sit with Jesus in contemplative prayer. It means that you can have some time alone with Jesus to recite your favorite prayers in silence, read the bible, pray a rosary or chaplet or do whatever type of prayerful devotion that suits you before Our Lord. You can just sit and say nothing simply keeping Him company, just as you would with a dear friend. You can offer Him your petitions, concerns, troubles, joys, gratitude, disappointments, needs and aspirations. Adoration will be held at St Patrick on October 14th (the second Monday of each month) from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. You are welcome to drop in for a few minutes or an hour; whatever fits your schedule. We are also in need of adorers willing to commit to a time slot each month. If you have questions or are interested in signing up, please contact Cyndi Chizek at 641-529-2963 or cyndi.chizek@gmail.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ COMMENTS FROM ADORERS: I Always wish I could capture and hold the warm and comforting feeling I have when I leave church. Returning to life outside the church doors makes me realize how I need Jesus close. Jesus, come to me. ~Judy Adoration makes me slow down, stop in the middle of my day and be silent. Now I am ready through prayer and the rosary to listen and reflect on what God has in store for me. Our beautiful sanctuary is the perfect place. ~Cathy Annual Fall Harvest Soup/Salad Luncheon Sunday, October 20th Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manly, IA 10:30 AM 1:00 PM ALL YOU CAN EAT DOOR PRIZES Adults: $8.00 Children 5-10: $4.00 Preschool: Free Fall (Turkey) Dinner - Sunday, October 27th Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rockwell, IA 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM MENU: Turkey, Dressing, and all the Trimmings, Home Made Desserts Adults: $10.00 Kids 12 & Under $8.00 Pre-school and younger Free Take outs will be available for $10.00 We will also have a bake sale/candy sale.
