Seoul , Korea 3 Geobook Seoul , Korea 4 Korea Polar Research Institute, KORDI Incheon , Korea Abstract : In this study, we attempted to provide Korean names to the arctic vascular plants observed around the Dasan Korean Arctic Station and Longyearbyen in Spitsbergen Island, in the Arctic region. To obtain recognizable results, plants were named according to the following naming rules. (1) When Korean names already existed, those names were used. (2) When there was no Korean name for a plant species, a scientific name for the plant was translated into a Korean name. (3) If the meaning of the scientific name was unclear, an English common name was translated into Korean name. (4) If the scientific names had meaning to the Arctic inhabitation, the Korean names included the word Buk-geuk. (5) If the distribution of the plant was limited to the Arctic area or the original species lived in the polar region, the Korean name included the word Buk-geuk. (6) If the plant had no Korean generic name, a particular suffix ~a-jae-bi was added to the closely related genus name of the plant species, or a new Korean genus name was used by translating a common English name. (7) If the same generic name had two or more Korean names, a generic name that better reflected the characteristics of the plant was selected. In this paper, we reported Korean names for 46 plants species belonging to 15 families and 28 genera. Eight plants had an existing Korean name and the other species were given new Korean names based on the criteria outlined above. We also made new Korean generic names for three genera, Braya, Micranthes and Cassiope. 2 102 Lee, K. et al. 1. 서론 북극권은전지구적인기후변화에큰영향을미치는중요한지역이다. 국내에서남극권에대한연구는 1988 년부터본격적으로진행되었으나북극권에대한연구는 2002 년국제북극과학위원회 (International Arctic Science Committee, IASC) 에세계 18 번째로정회원국이되면서관심을가지게되었다. 국제북극과학위원회가입과함께 2002 년 4 월노르웨이령스발바르제도 (Svalbard Islands), 스피츠베르겐섬 (Spitsbergen Island) 의뉘올레순 (Ny-A lesund) 에다산과학기지를개설하면서본격적인북극연구가시작되었다. 북극다산과학기지는북위 79 도의고위도지방에위치함에도불구하고멕시코해류의영향으로같은위도의다른곳과비교해서훨씬온난하다. 지난 10 년간다산과학기지에서다산기지주변콩스피오르덴 (Kongsfjorden, Kings bay) 의해양물리학적특징 ( 윤등 2006), 해양서식저서동물과식물플랑크톤기초조사 ( 강등 2003; 김등 2005; 기등 2006), 해양및토양미생물배양 (Lee et al. 2004; Lee et al. 2005; Lee et al. 2007), 대기중이산화탄소농도와지중온도모니터링등의연구가수행되어왔다. 그러나다산기지를비롯한북극권지역식물의분류생태학적연구는우리나라에서거의수행된바없고, 범의귀속식물의유전적다형성비교연구와식물상에대한전반적인리스트정도가있다 ( 서등 2007; 현 2010). 현재까지스발바르제도에서관속식물 171 종이보고된바있으며, 이중 164 종은자생종, 7 종은도입종으로알려져있다 (Rønning 1996). 스발바르제도의식물은도감으로정리된바있고 (Rønning 1996), The Flora of Svalbard 라는웹사이트를통해서도검색이가능하다 (Alsos et al. 2008). 스발바르제도에서가장큰섬인스피츠베르겐에서기록된식물종은 103 종 (Gjærevoll and Rønning 1996; Alsos et al. 2008) 이며스발바르제도의행정수도인롱이어뷔엔 (Longyearbyen) 에생육하는식물 52 종이간단한핸드북으로정리되어있다 (Ingebrigtsen et al. 2010). 본연구에서는스발바르제도스피츠베르겐섬에위치해있는두지역인뉘올레순의대한민국다산과학기지와롱이어뷔엔에서 2011 년 8 월에본연구진이관찰한식물 46 종을대상으로국문명칭을검토하였다. 우리나라도북극환경과생태계보호및기후변화에의한생태계변화를파악하기위하여북극권식물생태계변화모니터링을수행할필요가있다. 그런데북극권지역식물이국내학술지나보고서, 신문, 잡지, TV 방송등에소개될때학명은동일하나국명은발표에따라조금씩차이가있음으로해서북극권지역식물이름에대해혼란을줄수있다. 예를들어 북극다산기지주변식물상 보고서 에서는 Saxifraga cespitosa 를다발범의귀라고국명을부여하였으나 ( 현 2010), 북극식물에관한다른글 북극의 1 차생산자들 에서는덤불범의귀로다르게소개하였다 ( 서등 2007). 또한이들두가지글은공식적으로출판되지않아각각의부여된국명을공인된국명으로받아들이기어려운상황이다. 이에본논문에서는북극다산기지를중심으로스피츠베르겐섬에서실제관찰한북극권식물의국명을제공하고자한다. 통일된국명은앞으로다양한북극권식물연구및발표에유용하게활용될것으로기대된다. 2. 본론 본논문에서는 Rønning (1996) 의 The Flora of Svalbard 의학명을기준으로뉘올레순과롱이어뷔엔주변에서관찰한식물의국명을정리하였다. 관찰대상지로삼았던지역은다산기지주변 (78 o 56'N, 11 o 56'E) 과롱이어뷔엔중앙부 (78 o 13'N, 15 o 38'E) 이다. 최근변경된학명은 Alsos et al. (2008) 이정리한 The Flora of Svalbard 웹사이트를참고하였다. 본논문에서는기존에각각다르게명명된국명이있거나아직국명이주어지지않은북극다산과학기지지역식물에대해학명, 영문명, 실제식물의특성과기존국명등을참조하여아래에제시한기준에따라적절하게명명하였다. 국명을명명할때는 국명이사용되는경우기존의국명을사용하되, 국명이없는경우학명을활용하는것이좋다 ( 김과신 2011) 는제안을참고하여다음과같은기준을적용하였다. 1. 국문명칭이있는경우기존의국문명칭을그대로사용하였다. 예 ) 좀속새 (Equisetum scirpoides), 씨범꼬리 (Bistorta vivipara), 나도수영 (Oxyria digyna), 씨눈바위취 (Saxifraga cernua), 얼룩사초 (Carex fuliginosa ssp. misandra), 왕김의털 (Festuca rubra), 자주포아풀 (Poa glauca) 2. 국문명칭이없는경우종소명의의미를고려하여국명을새롭게부여하였다. 예 ) 난장이미나리아재비 (Ranunculus pygmaeus), 그린란드고추냉이 (Cochlearia groenlandica), 눈미나리아재비 (Ranunculus nivalis), 눈범의귀아재비 (Micranthes nivalis), 가는대범의귀아재비 (Micranthes tenuis), 긴털송이풀 (Pedicularis hirsuta), 고산포아풀 (Poa alpina var. vivipara) 3. 종소명을국문으로번역하기어려운경우또는학명이식물종의특징을잘반영하지못하는경우영문일반명 (common name) 을번역하여국명을새롭게부여

3 List of Korean Names for the Vascular Plants in Spitsbergen Island, in the Arctic Region 103 하였다. 예 ) 북극쇠뜨기 (Equisetum arvense, Polar Horsetail), 북극별꽃 (Stellaria humifusa, Arctic Chickweed), 툰드라별꽃 (S. longipes, Tundra Chickweed), 북극이끼장구채 (Silene acaulis, Moss Campion), 스발바르양귀비 (Papaver dahlianum, Svalbard poppy), 노랑범의귀 (Saxifraga aizoides, Yellow saxifrage), 노랑습지범의귀 (Saxifraga hirculus, Yellow marsh saxifrage), 자주범의귀 (Saxifraga oppsitifolia, Purple saxifrage) 4. 종소명또는아종명이 arctica, arcticum, borealis, -boreus, polaris 등인경우국명에 북극 을사용하였다. 예 ) 북극다람쥐꼬리 (Huperzia arctica), 북극점나도나물 (Cerastium arcticum), 북극황새풀 (Eriophorum scheuchzeri ssp. arcticum), 북극젓가락나물 (Ranunculus hyperboresus ssp. arnellii), 북극콩버들 (Salix polaris), 북극풍선장구채 (Silene uralensis ssp. arctica) 5. 4번의종소명이아닌경우에도분포지역이북극에국한되거나원종이북극권에서발견되는경우국명에 북극 을사용하였다. 예 ) 북극벼룩이자리 (Arenaria pseudofrigida), 북극개미자리 (Minuartia biflora), 북극외대개미자리 (M. stricta), 북극갯별꽃 (Honkenya peploides ssp. diffusa), 북극담자리꽃나무 (Dryas octopetala), 북극종꽃나무 (Cassiope tetragona ssp. tetragona), 북극꿩의밥 (Luzula confusa), 북극뚝새풀 (Alopecurus magellanicus) 6. 국문속명이없는경우근연속명에 아재비 를붙이거나영문일반명을번역하여속명을새롭게부여하였다. 예 ) Braya( 꽃다지아재비속 ), Micranthes( 범의귀아재비속 ), Cassiope(Bell heather, 종꽃나무속 ) 7. 동일속명 (genus name) 에대하여국명이두개이상인경우식물의특징을보다잘반영하는국명을채택하였다. 예 ) 북극젓가락나물 (Ranunculus hyperboreus ssp. arnellii) 의경우형태적특징이미나리아재비보다는젓가락나물과가까운점을고려하여 젓가락나물 을채택하였다. 8. 기타사항 1) 범의귀속 (Saxifraga) 에서근생엽이장상엽일경우국명에바위취를사용하였고, 경생엽이있는경우범의귀를사용하였으며, 근생엽이로제트인경우범의귀아재비를사용하였다. 2) 현재본국명의원예식물로판매되고있는이끼장구채는본조사에서발견된종과동일하다고볼수없고, 히말라야등에서발견되는동과유사식물종인것으로판단되어 (Yoshida 2005) 학술적의미의국명이라고볼수없다. 따라서이끼장구채는명명기준 3 을기준으로하여영문일반명 (moss champion) 을번역한국문신칭으로구분하였다. 3) 국가표준식물목록 ( 에따르면백두산에서기록된담자리꽃나무는 Dryas octopetala var. asiatica (Nakai) Nakai 이며스발바르에서기록된담자리꽃나무는 Dryas octopetala L. 로백두산변종의기본종으로판단되었다. 국제표준식물목록 ( 에따르면 Dryas octopetala 는북극과아북극에서 16 개의분류군 ( 변종, 아종, 품종포함 ) 이포함되지만, 백두산에서기록된 Dryas octopetala var. asiatica (Nakai) Nakai 종에대해서는공식적으로수록되지않았다. 이상의검토결과를토대로본논문에서는국가표준식물목록에따라명명기준 5 에의하여북극담자리꽃나무라는국문신칭을사용하였다. 이와같은기준으로최종정리된국명목록은 Table 1 과같다. 3. 결론 2010 년과 2011 년현장조사에서스피츠베르겐섬뉘올레순대한민국다산과학기지주변과롱이어뷔엔일대에서총 46 종 (15 과 28 속 ) 의관속식물을관찰하였다. 이중양치식물이 2 과 2 속 3 종, 쌍자엽식물이 10 과 20 속 35 종, 단자엽식물이 3 과 6 속 8 종이었다. 전체 28 속중에서 Braya, Micranthes, Cassiope 3 속에해당하는국문명칭이없어본논문에서각각 꽃다지아재비속, 범의귀아재비속, 종꽃나무속 이라는속명을붙여주었다. 전체 46 종중에서 8 종은기존의국명이존재하여기존국명을그대로따랐다. 좀속새, 씨범꼬리, 나도수영, 씨눈바위취, 얼룩사초, 왕김의털, 자주포아풀은백두산과한반도북부에서분포가확인되었다 ( 김등 1994; 이 1996; 김등 2002; 이 1980; 한국양치식물연구회 2005). 나머지 36 종은해당하는국명이존재하지않아이논문에서국명을신칭하였다. 본연구에서는뉘올레순주변에서보고된총 64 종중에출현이확인된 46 종만을기재하고있어향후 18 종에대한추가기록이요구된다. 또한다산과학기지와함께새로운북극권연구지역으로확장될그린랜드지역에출현하는식물종도포함하여야할것으로판단된다. 이렇게통일된국
