Readmission Application Academic Probation Expulsion Withdrawal Change of Major Double Major/Minor Readmission to the university for the student after the period of leave of absence. Academic probation for the student who gets an average grade of less than 1.75 at the end of each semester (This may cause a disadvantage for visa extension). Expulsion from the university for three cumulative academic probations or no tuition fee payment. Withdrawing from the university as is the student s will. Campus scholarship The campus scholarship is granted based on the criteria provided below by the International Exchange Team without additional application procedure in each semester and it is notified in the tuition bill. 6. Course Evaluation A. Objectives - The course evaluation is a critical system to improve the quality of the lecture by suggesting the learners comments and requirements regarding the contents and forms of the class to the instructors and the active participation of students are needed. - It will not cause any disadvantages for the personal information of students are not provided. - The appropriate results will be yielded when each category are thoroughly considered and answered for this process is not to assess the preference for individual instructors but to evaluate the methods and contents of the lectures. B. 7. Summer/Winter Session A. Purpose -To provide an opportunity of acquiring credits, for students hoping for early graduation, minor, double major, course retake B. Schedule & instruction 1) Schedule : winter/summer vacation period 2) Course period : 15days during each vacation 3) Admission qualification : Students who have taken at least two semesters 4) How to register : Online registration (Through website-knu portal) 5) Number of credits : 6 credits per semester 6) Course Fee : course fee (1credit=23,000 KRW), research or practice course (1credit=26,000 KRW) 8. Academic register change A. Leave of absence 1) Leave of absence will be possible without tuition fee payment only during the designated period. (After semester starts, for leave of absence he/she must make a payment tuition fee) 2) Application for leave of absence after the tuition fee payment, caused by family emergencies, disease, pregnancy etc should be sent to KNU OIA before administration office within 1/3 of the class days. 3) Note - You will be recognized as expelled if you do not return after the expiration of the term of absence - After 1/3 of the class days, enrolled students will not be able to apply leave of absence. - Freshmen are able to apply leave of absence after their first semester. - The first of leave of absence will be possible for two semesters, if it's not possible, like returning to school due to proper problems, you must submit a document to extend your leave of absence within the designated period.(or you will be expelled) - If he/she want to apply leave of absence before the payment of tuition fee, documents regarding leave of absence should be submitted during the designated period. B. Return to school ( steps through 1-3 must be followed ) 1) Pre-registration, course registration (Please ask his/her department) 2) Tuition fee payment (students who made their payments before their leave of absence can skip this step) 3) Register after the tuition fee payment according to registration schedule 4) If you want to return to school due to the expiration of your leave of absence, proceed your registration through his/her department and KNU OIA 13
9. Requirements for graduation A. Language requirements for graduation 1) Undergraduate - The international student admitted to the undergraduate course should acquire either the level 4 or more on TOPIK or the English score above TOEFL (PBT 550, CBT 210, ibt 80), IELTS 5.5, TEPS 600, or TOEIC 700 before graduation.(the level 3 TOPIK is required for the KGSP student and the student studying on foreign government scholarship.) - The new student admitted to the departments of Arts & Sports or Global Business, and the students from native English speaking countries (US, Canada, England, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Ireland) are considered to have acquired the language requirements. 2) Graduate - The international student admitted to the graduate school should acquire either the level 4 or more on TOPIK or the English score above TOEFL (PBT 550, CBT 210, ibt 80), IELTS 5.5, TEPS 600, or TOEIC 700 before submitting a dissertation written for the degree online. (The level 3 TOPIK is required for the KGSP student and the student studying on foreign government scholarship.) B. Career Counselling (undergraduate) A. Summary - To be assigned with a professor who will help you to specify a student s career throughout the semester. B. Korean Proficiency Test (LEVEL TEST) [Department of Korean Language and Literature, College of Humanities #1, 250-8120] All international students are required to take the Korean Proficiency Test conducted by the Department of Korean Language and Literature; the undergraduate student must complete it with the Korean Ⅲ and the graduate student must complete it with Korean Ⅱ. (But, it may be waived depending on the test results.) 14

13. Free Korean Courses KNU Baekryung Volunteers offers free Korean courses for foreign students to improve their communication skills in Korean and their understanding of Korean culture. A. 14. Health Insurance Every international student studying in Korea must have health insurance. It is not an option but required and please be advised that the student who does not have insurance will be canceled from the university registration. Option1 When getting insurance personally - A student who does not want to get the accident insurance recommended by KNU must get the desired insurance and submit the certificating document. - Submit a copy of the insurance policy certificate to the KNU Office of International Affairs within 7 days after the beginning of the semester - It must be effective not in the native country but in Korea. - One or two pages containing the personal information and covering period are enough, and it must be in English. Option2 When getting accident insurance recommended by KNU (www.foreignerdb.com/kangwon) - A student who want to get the accident insurance recommended by KNU must pay insurance premium within 7 days after the beginning of the semester. - Insurance designated by KNU is an accident insurance so it only covers costs when a student has an accident or is in a hospital. It doesn t include a little and personal treatment like a dental treatment so if you don t want it, you may purchase other insurance by yourself. - It may cost approximately 130,000 KRW for 1 year and 80,000 KRW for 6 months. 18
Ⅲ. Campus Guide 1. Student ID Card Issuance [Shinhan Bank, 1 st FL Tae Baek Gwan, 257-8715] The KNU student ID card is also available as a credit card. This card can be used as a debit card, a rechargeable transportation card (T-money) and allows access to the campus library and buildings approved by the security company (SECOM). A. How to issue: First, apply for an alien registration card at the Chuncheon Immigration Office and then visit the Shinhan Bank on campus with the issued alien registration card, your passport and a photo (3x4). The student ID card will be issued within 2 weeks. For more information, call Shinhan Bank Call center (.1577-8380, Foreign Language Service) The freshmen will be informed at the international students orientation in the first semester. B. How to re-issue: If you lose the card, report immediately to the security company (SECOM) and Shinhan Bank. 1) ID Card: Contact Office of Student Affairs ( 033-250-6031) 2) Banking: Call Shinhan Bank call center ( 1577-8380 or 033-257-8715) or visit Shinhan Bank KNU Branch with the alien registration card and passport No refunds will be made for the use of a lost card. 2. Certificate Issuance [Office of Academic Affairs, 1 st FL Na Rae Gwan, 250-8272] The certificates are issued at the Office of Academic Affairs on the 1 st floor of Na Rae Gwan ( 033-250- 8272) in Korean and English. There are various ways to request via an in person visit, e-mail, or post. Also, the automatic certificate issuing machines are available on the 1 st floor of Na Rae Gwan and the 2 nd floor of 60 th Anniversary Hall. The service charge is 300 won for Korean and 600 won for English. A.
