Birthday cards can be sent to 313 North 13th Street, Clear Lake, IA 50428 The Knights of Columbus held their annual Persons with Intellectual Disabilities fundraiser the first weekend in August. Knights wearing yellow vests collected free will donations in exchange for an offered tootsie roll. The Knights were stationed at Fareway in Clear Lake, the 4 corner intersection in Ventura and St Patrick Church. As usual, the community and our Parish was very generous and our council was able to raise $2445.00 in this day long effort. All money collected will be split between the IA State KC Council targeted for Special Olympics and local related causes. Past recipients have included St Patrick Handicap Bus, One Vision, Harmony Ranch, and North Central Autism Association. The checks will be distributed in the month of October. On April 27 and 28, Greg and Julie Alexander, founders of the Alexander House apostolate, trained twenty-three couples from the Archdioceses of Dubuque and nine couples from the Diocese of Davenport to serve as Covenant of Love Marriage Mentors. These trained couples are now ready to serve couples throughout eastern Iowa as marriage mentors. Covenant of Love Marriage Mentoring helps married couples achieve relationship goals with effective support, information, and guidance. This process is effective for restoring and strengthening marriages in which both spouses are open to following God s plan for marriage and putting into place the practical tools provided. Whether newlyweds or married for fifty years, and whether on the brink of divorce or just wanting to grow deeper in a relatively good marriage, this mentoring process can provide couples with guidance for strengthening and sustaining their marriage.
