132 The Journal of Intellectual Property Vol.6 No.4 December 2011 A Study on the Judicial System of N-Screen: Focused on Copyright Act Choe, Jin-won Abstract N-Screen service is becoming common; we can use many content anywhere at any time in seamless environment. Communication service providers, broadcasting businessmen, related equipment manufacturers are establishing strategies for N-Screen service as if it is a matter of life and death. The key factor for victory is to secure content. Copyright has a big influence on the industry. N-Screen environment breaks the legal balance of copyright which has been delicately modified during a long history. You must reconsider private use and compensation to maximize both benefits of users and copyright holders. When N-Screen service providers avoid to clear copyright directly and develop a specific business model which leads customers into private use, the benefit of copyright holders are seriously infringed. This paper examines the background and current situation of N- Screen service. Also a new balance is considered through analyzing the case of Maneki TV in Japan. Keywords N-Screen, private use, remuneration, copyright, Slingbox, Locationfree Player
