4 CONGRATULATORY MESSAGES 인사말 최정운 ( 사 ) 한국시네마테크협의회이사장 올해로 7 회를맞는 베니스인서울 영화제의개막을축하합니다. 아울러이영화제의성공을위해언제나 헌신적인노력을아끼지않는주한이탈리아문화원과베니스비엔날레측에깊은감사의뜻을전합니다. 베니스 인서울 을아껴주시는진정한주인공인관객여러분께도고마움의인사를드립니다. 올해 베니스인서울 은특별히다양한개성을가진 13 편의작품들로채워져있습니다. 이탈리아의현실을 날카롭게묘사한젊은감독들의작품들이있으며, 루키노비스콘티, 에르만노올미, 타비아니형제, 베르나르도 베르톨루치등거장들의고전도있습니다. 또한전쟁과역사, 영화사와영화미학에대한깊이있는통찰을보여 주는다큐멘터리도만날수있습니다. 영화를사랑하시는분들, 특히이탈리아영화의매력을아끼는관객분들 에게최고의선물이될것이라생각합니다. 이번상영작중특별히언급하고싶은건지난해세상을떠난거장들의발자취입니다 년 9 월 20 일에 태어나 2018 년 4 월 15 일에세상을떠난비토리오타비아니감독은동생파올로타비아니감독과함께인간에 대한따뜻한관심이느껴지는이십여편의작품을발표했습니다 년 7 월 24 일에태어나작년 5 월 5 일에 우리곁을떠난에르만노올미감독은역사와인간에대한깊이있는통찰로우리에게많은감동을주었습니다. 그리고 1941 년 3 월 16 일에태어나작년 11 월 26 일세상을떠난베르나르도베르톨루치감독은우리의어두운 현실에끊임없이문제를제기하며한순간도물러서지않는모습을보여주었습니다. 이번 제 7 회베니스인 서울 이거장감독들의영화적유산을되새기는뜻깊은자리가되길바랍니다. 다시한번 제 7 회베니스인서울 을찾은관객분들에게감사와환영의인사를전합니다. 저희시네마테크 서울아트시네마는앞으로도영화사의귀중한걸작과동시대의주목할영화들을소개하기위해노력하겠습니다. 내년 베니스인서울 에서다시인사드리겠습니다. Mi congratulo vivamente per l inaugurazione della rassegna cinematografica Venezia a Seoul, giunta quest anno alla settima edizione. Ringrazio sentitamente l Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Seoul e la Biennale di Venezia per i loro più che apprezzati sforzi volti alla buona riuscita dell evento. Porgo infine un caldo saluto anche al nostro pubblico, il vero protagonista di Venezia a Seoul. L evento di quest anno contempla tredici opere, ciascuna dotata di una propria unicità. Da una parte abbiamo le pellicole di giovani registi emergenti che hanno scelto di rappresentare in maniera cruda la realtà contemporanea italiana; dall altra, alcuni dei giganti del cinema italiano come Luchino Visconti, Ermanno Olmi, i fratelli Taviani e Bernardo Bertolucci. Non mancano infine opere documentaristiche sulla guerra, sulla storia, sulla storia del cinema e della sua arte. La rassegna costituisce così un bel regalo a tutti gli amanti del cinema e di quello italiano in particolare. Se me lo si concede, vorrei soffermarmi in particolare sulla recentissima scomparsa, avvenuta lo scorso anno, di alcuni giganti del cinema italiano. Vittorio Taviani, nato il 20 settembre del 1929 è venuto a mancare il 15 aprile del 2018, ha realizzato insieme al fratello Paolo più di venti pellicole, tutte attente e compassionevoli analisi della condizione umana. Ermanno Olmi, nato il 27 luglio del 1931 è scomparso il 5 maggio dello scorso anno ci ha sempre regalato emozioni intense con pellicole ricche di riflessioni sulla storia e sull uomo. Infine Bernardo Bertolucci, che fino alla sua scomparsa il 26 novembre scorso non ha mai smesso di porsi e porci domande sulla non sempre rosea realtà che ci circonda. Mi auguro che la settima Venezia a Seoul diventi la culla di un nuovo costruttivo dibattito sui grandi capolavori del cinema italiano. Porgo ancora una volta i miei ringraziamenti più sentiti e un nuovo benvenuto a tutti gli ospiti della settima edizione di Venezia a Seoul. Cinematheque Seoul Art Cinema s impegna a presentare di anno in anno i migliori film, classici e contemporanei. Ci rivediamo l anno prossimo per una nuova Venezia a Seoul. I sincerely thank the Italian Institute of Culture in Seoul and the Venice Biennale for their most appreciated efforts aimed at the success of the event. And, I offer a warm greeting to our audience, the true protagonist of Venice in Seoul. This year's event includes thirteen films, each of which has its own uniqueness. On the one hand we have the films of young emerging directors who re-construct the Italian contemporary reality in a crude way; on the other, the giants of Italian cinema such as Luchino Visconti, Ermanno Olmi, the Taviani brothers and Bernardo Bertolucci. Last, there are documentaries on the war, on history, on the history of cinema and its artistic achievement. The exhibition is thus a beautiful gift to all lovers of cinema, in particular, to ones of the Italian cinema. If you allow me, I would like to remind you on the giants of Italian cinema who left us last year. Vittorio Taviani, born on September 20, 1929, passed away on April 15, 2018, and made more than twenty films together with his brother Paolo, with all attentive and compassionate analyzes of the human condition. Ermanno Olmi, born on 27 July 1931 and passed away on May 5 last year, has always given us the intense emotions with films full of reflections on history and on human. 5 CONGRATULATORY MESSAGES 인사말 해마다개최되고있는 베니스인서울 영화제가 7 회를맞이하였습니다. 꾸준히성장하며성공을거듭 하고있는이행사는수준높은이탈리아영화, 그리고이런좋은영화를소개하는역사적인베니스국제영화제 가한국에서높은평가를받고있다는것을보여주고있습니다 년베니스리도섬에서시작되어 2018 년 75 회를맞이한베니스국제영화제는세계에서가장오랜역사를자랑하고있습니다. 영광의오랜역사속 에서, 특히 2000 년대초반에, 전세계적으로인정받는김기덕 (2012 년황금사자상수상 ), 장선우, 이창동, 홍상수, 임권택감독같은많은누벨바그주인공들이탄생했습니다. 그리고작년에신설된베니스 VR 섹션 에서 2 년연속으로한국작품이소개되었는데, 2018 년 9 월에는채수응 (Chick Chae) 감독의가상현실창작 작품인 < 버디 Vr(Buddy Vr)> 이상영되었습니다. 이작품은수잔비에르 (Susanne Bier) 감독이이끄는심사 위원들로부터 베스트 VR 경험상 을수상하였습니다. 올해영화제에소개될이탈리아영화들은지난해보다더욱다양하며, 이는주한이탈리아문화원및서울 아트시마네와의소중한협력을통해선정되었습니다. 이번 75 회베니스국제영화제의경쟁부문, 비경쟁부문, 오리종티부문, 스콘피니부문 (sconfini), 베니스클래식부문에서관중들의뜨거운호기심속에큰성공을거 두며최초로상영된신작들과복원된고전작품등총 13 편의이탈리아영화들을만나볼수있을것입니다. 제 7 회베니스인서울 의경쟁부문에서마리오마르토네감독의 < 카프리레볼루션 > 이상영됩니다. 비경쟁 부문에는로베르토안도감독의 < 도둑맞은카라바지오 > 와조르지오트레베스감독의 < 인종법 -1938> 이소개 됩니다. 오리종티부문에는엠마누엘레스카린지감독의영화 < 아르마딜로의예언 > 이상영됩니다. 처음으로선보이는스콘피니부문에서상영됐던영화중지피감독의영화 < 세상에서가장행복한소년 > 과 윌마라바테감독의 < 굿바이사이공 > 이소개됩니다. 베니스클래식부문은영화에대한다큐멘터리와 최근에복원된고전영화들을포함하였습니다. 다큐멘터리영화로는프란체스코지펠감독의 < 프리드킨언 컷 > 과지안카를로롤란디와페데리코폰티지아감독의 <24 프레임, 25 프레임 > 을선별했고, 고전영화섹션은 릴리아나카바니감독의 < 비엔나호텔의야간배달부 >(1974), 1961 년베니스국제영화제에서평론가상을수상 한에르만노올미감독의 < 직업 >(1961), 제 75 회베니스국제영화제에서복원된최고의영화로베니스클래식 상을받은파올로, 비토리오타비아니감독의영화 < 로렌조의밤 >(1982), 그리고루키노비스콘티감독의 < 베니스에서의죽음 >(1971) 으로구성하였습니다. 또한베르나르도베르톨루치감독헌정상영으로 2017 년 베니스국제영화제에서복원작품으로소개되었던 <1900 년 >(1976) 도만나볼수있습니다. 올해선정된영화들은양적, 질적으로이탈리아영화의새로운트렌드와최고의전통을보여주는매우 의미있는작품들입니다. 최근 10 년간베니스비엔날레가전세계에이탈리아영화를널리알리고자시작한 문화프로젝트의가장중요한거점도시가서울이라는것을다시금확인시켜줄것입니다. 즐겁게감상하시길바랍니다. 알베르토바르베라베니스국제영화제집행위원장 E il settimo anno consecutivo che si tiene la rassegna intitolata La Mostra del Cinema di Venezia a Seoul, e il suo successo costante e crescente dimostra quanto siano apprezzati in Corea sia il cinema italiano di qualità, oggetto della rassegna stessa, sia lo storico festival che seleziona i film, la Mostra del Cinema che si tiene al Lido di Venezia dal 1932, la più antica al mondo, che quest anno ha festeggiato la 75a edizione. Una lunga e gloriosa storia, che in particolare in questi primi due decenni degli anni Duemila ha visto protagonisti anche molti maestri della Nouvelle vague coreana, la quale si è affermata in Occidente proprio partendo dalla Mostra di Venezia, con nomi quali Kim Ki-duk (premiato col Leone d oro nel 2012), Jang Sun-woo, Lee Chang-dong, Im Sang-soo, Hong Sang-soo e Im Kwon-taek. E nel 2018, per il secondo anno consecutivo, nell ambito della nuova sezione Venice VR abbiamo avuto il piacere di presentare lo scorso settembre un opera coreana realizzata in Realtà Virtuale, Buddy Vr di Chick Chae, premiata per la Migliore esperienza Vr dalla giuria presieduta dalla regista Susanne Bier. Venendo alla selezione di film italiani proposti nella rassegna di Seoul, più ampia degli anni scorsi e sempre realizzata con la preziosa collaborazione dell Istituto Italiano di Cultura, si potranno ammirare ben 13 titoli italiani nuovi o restaurati, proiettati in prima mondiale con successo e grande curiosità del pubblico alla 75a Mostra di Venezia in Concorso, Fuori Concorso, Orizzonti, Sconfini e Venezia Classici. Del Concorso di Venezia 2018 è presente a Seoul Capri-Revolution di Mario Martone. Per il Fuori Concorso sono presenti Una Storia senza nome di Roberto Andò e il documentario 1938 Diversi di Giorgio Treves. Per la sezione Orizzonti, La Profezia dell armadillo di Emanuele Scaringi. Per la nuova sezione Sconfini, Il Ragazzo più felice del mondo di Gipi e Arrivederci Saigon di Wilma Labate. Per la sezione Venezia Classici, che include documentari sul cinema e grandi restauri dell ultimo anno, sono stati scelti i documentari Friedkin Uncut di Francesco Zippel e 24/25, Il Fotogramma in più di Giancarlo Rolandi e Federico Pontiggia, nonché i grandi classici Il Portiere di notte di Liliana Cavani (1974), Il Posto (1961) di Ermanno Olmi (premiato dalla critica a Venezia 61), La Notte di San Lorenzo (1982) di Paolo e Vittorio Taviani (Premio Venezia Classici per il Miglior film restaurato alla 75a Mostra), Morte a Venezia (1971) di Luchino Visconti. Inoltre, in omaggio a Bernardo Bertolucci, sarà riproposto Novecento (1976), nella versione restaurata presentata alla Mostra di Venezia I film selezionati quest anno offrono pertanto, per qualità e quantità, uno spaccato significativo sia delle nuove tendenze del cinema italiano, sia della sua migliore tradizione, e confermano Seoul come tappa sempre più importante del progetto culturale di promozione e diffusione del cinema italiano nel mondo, avviato nell ultimo decennio dalla Biennale di Venezia. Venice International Film Festival, held since 1932 and the oldest in the world, celebrated its 75th edition last year. With long and glorious history, particularly in these first two decades of the 2000s, our festival has featured many masters of the Korean Nouvelle Vague which has established itself in the West with the names such as 8 9

6 CONGRATULATORY MESSAGES 인사말 Kim Ki-duk (awarded with the Golden Lion in 2012), Jang Sun-woo, Lee Chang-dong, Im Sang-soo, Hong Sang-soo and Im Kwon-taek. And in 2018 at the new Venice VR section, we had the pleasure of presenting the Korean work created in Virtual Reality, Buddy Vr by Chick Chae, which awarded for the Best Vr by the jury chaired by director Susanne Bier. Coming to the selection of Italian films proposed in the Seoul show which has wider and more various range of films than last years, it has been made with the precious collaboration of the Italian Cultural Institute and Seoul Art Cinema as before. You can watch 13 new or restored Italian titles which were projected at the 75th Venice Film Festival from the sections of Competition, Out of Competition, Orizzonti, Sconfini and Venice Classics. The 2018 Venice Competition is present in Seoul with Capri-Revolution by Mario Martone. For the Out of Competition there are The Stolen Caravaggio by Roberto Andò and the documentary 1938, Different by Giorgio Treves. For the Orizzonti section, The Armadillo s Prophecy by Emanuele Scaringi. For the new section of Sconfini, The Young Fan by Gipi and Goodbye Saigon by Wilma Labate. For the Venice Classics section, which includes documentaries on the cinema and restored masterpieces of the last year, are there the documentaries Friedkin Uncut by Francesco Zippel and 24/25 The Extra Frame of Giancarlo Rolandi and Federico Pontiggia, as well as the great classics The Night Porter by Liliana Cavani (1974), The Job (1961) by Ermanno Olmi (critically acclaimed in Venice '61), The Night of the Shooting Stars (1982) by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani (Venice Classics Award for Best Restored Film at the 75th Venice International Film Festival), and Death in Venice (1971) by Luchino Visconti. In addition, as a tribute to Bernardo Bertolucci, 1900 (1976) will be repeated on the restored version which was presented at the 2017 Venice Film Festival. Therefore, the selected films of this year offer, in terms of quality and quantity, the significant insight into both new trends in Italian cinema and its best tradition, and confirm the city of Seoul as the increasingly important stage in the cultural promotion and dissemination of Italian cinema for which the events were launched in the last decade by the Venice Biennale. Quest anno la manifestazione è stata posticipata al mese di gennaio e si svolge tutta in sei intensi giorni (dal 22 al 27 gennaio 2019) che permetteranno al pubblico di Seoul di godere di un offerta cinematografica molto variegata proveniente dalle diverse sezioni dell Mostra Internazionale d arte cinematografica di Venezia. Sarà possibile vedere alcuni film di finzione molto applauditi come Una Storia senza nome di Roberto Andò e Capri-Revolution di Mario Martone, due registi con grande esperienza, avremo inoltre anche due opere prime come La Profezia dell armadillo di Emanuele Scaringi e Il Ragazzo più felice del mondo dell autore di fumetti Gipi conosciuto qui in Corea. Saranno inoltre proiettati alcuni documentari di grande interesse fra cui Arrivederci Saigon di Wilma Labate, una storia che rievoca un viaggio in Vietnam durante il conflitto e 1938 Diversi, che rievoca il periodo in cui vennero promulgate in Italia le famigerate leggi razziali. La proiezione di questo documentario intende celebrare la giornata della memoria dell Olocausto, il 27 gennaio di ogni anno

7 PROGRAM 프로그램 Particolamente interessante la rassegna dei film classici restaurati che comprende Il Portiere di notte, capolavoro indiscusso di Liliana Cavani interpretato da Charlotte Rampling e Dirk Bogarde che è anche il protagonista del bellissimo film di Luchino Visconti Morte a Venezia. Quest anno poi Venezia a Seoul intende omaggiare tre grandi registi italiani scomparsi da poco proiettando Il Posto di Ermanno Olmi, La Notte di San Lorenzo di Paolo e Vittorio Taviani e infine Novecento I e II di Bernardo Bertolucci che ci ha lasciato il 26 Novembre Paola Ciccolella Direttore, Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Seoul I am very pleased that the Venice in Seoul film festival has reached its seventh edition. This time, the event has been postponed to January and is held for six intense days (from 22 to 27 January 2019) that will allow the citizens of Seoul to enjoy the variety of films offered from the various sections of Venice International Film Festival. It will be possible to see very applauded feature films such as The Stolen Caravaggio by Roberto Andò and Capri-Revolution by Mario Martone, both of whom with great experience. We will also have two first works like Emanuele Scaringi's The Armadillo s Prophecy and The Young Fan by Gipi whose comic book is well known here in Korea. Interesting documentaries will also be screened, including Goodbye Saigon by Wilma Labate, a story that reminds of Vietnam during the war, and 1938 Different, which recalls the period in which the notorious racial laws were promulgated in Italy. The screening of this documentary intends to commemorate the Holocaust Memorial Day on 27th January each year. Particularly interesting is the review of the restored classic films that includes The Night Porter, the undisputed masterpiece of Liliana Cavani played by Charlotte Rampling and Dirk Bogarde who is also the protagonist of the beautiful film Death in Venice by Luchino Visconti. 8 Cinematheque Seoul Art Cinema, in collaborazione con la Biennale di Venezia e l Istituto di Cultura Italiana a Seoul, presenta la settima edizione della rassegna cinematografica Venezia a Seoul, che si terrà dal 22 al 27 gennaio 2019 nella capitale coreana. Nata con lo scopo di presentare i film di maggior successo della Mostra internazionale d arte cinematografica di Venezia, Venezia a Seoul vanta quest anno una varietà di generi più spiccata che mai. Da Capri-Revolution, film in concorso di Mario Martone, all edizione restaurata di Morte a Venezia di Luchino Visconti, fino a Novecento, capolavoro dell ormai spentosi Bernardo Bertolucci, per un totale di tredici pellicole di diversa epoca e genere. Vi invitiamo a partecipare numerosi. Unico film della sezione Venezia 75, Capri-Revolution è stato presentato in concorso alla 75 Mostra internazionale d arte cinematografica di Venezia e costituisce l ultimo lavoro del regista Mario Martone, la cui pellicola Il giovane favoloso era già stata proiettata in occasione dell edizione del 2014 di Venezia a Seoul. Il film dipinge con toni accesi il senso di cambiamento impetuoso che imperava all inizio del XX secolo e la forte volontà della protagonista di ricercare una nuova se stessa. La seconda sezione Venezia classici prevede sette pellicole di valore documentaristico, capolavori del cinema italiano e della sua storia. Il Posto (1961), una delle prime opere di Ermanno Olmi, si caratterizza per l inaspettata armonia tra la freddezza con cui la società è raffigurata e l atteggiamento invece più coinvolto del suo protagonista. Sarà inoltre possibile rivedere Morte a Venezia di Luchino Visconti nella sua versione digitale restaurata, oltre che la versione integrale di Il Portiere di notte, in cui il tema della sopravvivenza dall olocausto viene rivista in chiave sessuale nella relazione tra i due protagonisti. Sarà poi possibile avvicinarsi al colosso di più di cinque ore di Bernardo Bertolucci, che in Novecento (1976) ha condensato le vicissitudini della storia italiana del secolo scorso. Il dibattito attorno a certi aspetti del suo Ultimo tango a Parigi non accenna a placarsi, ma personalmente sono convinto che, pur dovendo mantenere uno sguardo freddo sul problema, sia necessario ricordare Bertolucci anzitutto per i suoi straordinari risultati artistici. La Notte di San Lorenzo (1982) dei fratelli Taviani, poi, racconta il dolore della guerra attraverso gli animi della gente di un piccolo paese di campagna. La pellicola acquista ancor più valore se pensiamo alla recente scomparsa di Vittorio Taviani. La sezione Venezia classici non contempla però soltanto pellicole storiche ma anche un paio di opere contemporanee, nello specifico documentari che rivisitano la storia del cinema. Friedkin Uncut è un documentario per mano di William Friedkin (famoso tra gli altri per L esorcista e French Connection) incentrato sulla sua stessa attività cinematografica. 24/25 Il Fotogramma in più discute, usando come fulcro il concetto di fotogramma, delle differenze tra la TV e il cinema come mezzi di comunicazione artistica, riflettendo attorno all identità di quest ultimo. Venezia classici ripropone così alcune perle della storia del cinema italiano insieme a nuove e interessanti chiavi di lettura. Nell ultima sezione, infine, ci sarà possibile incontrare alcuni dei film più giovani della scena cinematografica italiana: Una Storia senza nome, che racconta l ancora irrisolto caso del furto della celebre Natività di Caravaggio; 1938 Diversi, documentario sul fascismo e sulla sua icona Mussolini; La Profezia dell armadillo, che con un taglio leggero e spassoso, ma non superficiale, ritrae personaggi incapaci d integrarsi nella società cosiddetta normale ; Arrivederci Saigon, che mostra i retroscena dei cinque membri della band femminile italiana Le Stars ritrovatesi inaspettatamente in Vietnam durante il periodo della guerra; Il Ragazzo più felice del mondo, infine, che racconta in forma di documentario drammatico la ricerca dell identità di un ragazzo misterioso. The film with vivid tones paints the sense of impetuous change that prevailed at the beginning of the twentieth century and the strong will of the protagonist to seek a new self. The Job (1961), one of the early works by Ermanno Olmi, is characterized by the unexpected harmony between the coldness with which the society is portrayed and the warmhearted attitude to the protagonists. It is also possible to review Luchino Visconti's Death in Venice in its digitally restored version, as well as the uncut full version of The Night Porter, in which the theme of the survival from Holocaust is reminded with a sexual key in the relationship between the two protagonists. Then it is also possible to approach the colossus of more than five hours by Bernardo Bertolucci, who in 1900 (1976) has condensed the vicissitudes of Italian history of the last century. The debate around certain aspects of his Last Tango in Paris shows no sign of abating, but we are convinced that, while having to keep a critical look on the problem, it is also necessary to remember Bertolucci for his extraordinary artistic results. The Night of the Shooting Stars (1982) of the Taviani brothers, tells the pain of war through the people of a small country town. It would be more meaningful with the condolence to the recent death of Vittorio Taviani. The "Venice Classics" section does not only include historical films but also a couple of contemporary works, specifically documentaries that revisit the history of cinema. Friedkin Uncut is a documentary on William Friedkin (famous among others for The Exorcist and French Connection) focusing on his film activity. 24/25 The Extra Frame in more discussions, using the concept of 'photogram' as a fulcrum, shows the differences between TV and cinema as a means of artistic communication, reflecting around the identity of the latter. "Venice Classics" proposes again some of the pearls of the history of Italian cinema together with new and interesting interpretations. Finally, in the last section, you can meet the younger works of the Italian film scene: The Stolen Caravaggio, which tells the still unresolved case of the theft of the famous Nativity of Caravaggio; 1938, Different, documentary on fascism and its icon Mussolini; The Armadillo s Prophecy, which with a light and hilarious cut, but not superficial, portraying characters unable to integrate into the so-called 'normal' society; Goodbye Saigon, which shows the background of the five members of the Italian female band Le Stars unexpectedly found in Vietnam during the war; The Young Fan, finally, which tells the story of a mysterious boy in the form of a dramatic documentary. Applying for a job at a big city corporation, he goes through a bizarre series of exams, physical tests and interviews. During a brief respite from the tests, he meets Antonietta, a young girl who has similarly interrupted her schooling when in need of money to support herself and her mother. Becoming attracted to her, they are quickly separated when they get jobs in different departments. Domenico is informed that no clerical positions are available and he takes a job as a messenger while awaiting a better position, gradually stripping him of his individuality. One day, he is offered a recently vacated desk of an employee, an aspiring writer presumed to have killed himself. As the film ends, Domenico has obtained this 'job for life', bearing the brunt of a banal career. The movie based on the novel «Death in Venice» by Thomas Mann. It tells the journey of the musician Gustav von Aschenbach, who leaves Germany to spend his holidays in Venice. In the hotel in which he sojourns he is attracted by the beautiful Tadzio, the elder son of a Polish family. Upset and exhausted because of the humid clime of Venice he decides to leave but he changes his mind after a misunderstanding happened with his luggage at the station. Meanwhile a pestilence spreads over Venice. He decides to alert the Polish family, but then as he wishes to see the young man again, he decides not to do it. In order to conceal his age he dyes his hair and put makeup on. This film wants to tell what the implementation of those laws led to for Jews people and the way people faced racism and persecution. It shows articles, comic strips, videos which give the evidence of how, in only few months, Jews people were labelled first as different and then as enemies of the nation. It tells the effects of the racial laws on the everyday life of Italian Jews through the stories of some witnesses as well as through the reenactment of some events of discrimination and humiliation. This is a true story. A person has been sending letters to Italian cartoonists pretending to be a fifteen years old teenager for more than twenty years. In his letters he always asks for a sketch as a present. An Italian cartoonist, Gipi, begins to investigate on this person. He wants to make a documentary, find this person and interview the other authors who have received that letter. In order to realize it he asks some friends for help, but they are just friends, without any competence. However, there is a story to tell, and for Gipi telling stories is the most important thing one can do. This is not a written story, as it relies on what he discovers little by little. Anyway things never go as expected. In fact, during the production of the documentary everything changes and slips away. Consequently, Gipi has to reflect on the sense of telling stories and on the moral reasons that are at the basis.
