24 Expected Element of Learners in Japanese Class -Focus on a Native Japanese Teacher and a Non-native Japanese Teacher- Currently, NNT are responsible for the majority of Japanese college classes. However, there are also cases that NT are in charge of classes. This study aims to examine what requirements Japanese teachers need in order to be an ideal teacher for a Japanese class in a liberal arts course context. Students of six universities, who were taking a Japanese class, were asked to complete questionnaires regarding requirements of NT and NNT. Data was analyzed using both a factor analysis and a one-way ANOVA. The findings for NT revealed that the following six factors were extracted: Cheerful lively personality, consideration of the learners, practice of conversation education and expertise, education about culture and variety of activities, understanding of Korea, and proficiency. As a result of the one-way ANOVA, a significant difference was shown with the "Practice of conversation education and expertise" among the six groups. This significant difference was found between the different groups of learning experiences. The findings for NNT revealed that the following five factors were extracted: consideration of the learners, expertise and proficiency, friendly personality, education about culture and variety of teaching styles, and grammar education. The independent one-way ANOVA results showed that there were no significant differences between groups. A comparison of each of the factors, understanding and conversation education for Koreans, appeared only in NT, and grammar education has appeared only in NNT. Accordingly, the learner was found to change the expected element by the characteristics of the teacher.
