We cannot understand fully the meaning of the scriptures without knowing the feeling of being fed.

2 From Jan THE TURNING POINT Today s Gospel gives us the second part of the Emmaus story. The disciples are gathered in Jerusalem. Two of them have just conveyed an amazing story of recognizing the risen Jesus in conversation on the road to Emmaus and in the breaking of the bread. Then Jesus appears and opens their minds to understand the Scriptures. In both parts of the Emmaus story, Jesus teaches and there is a meal which is the turning point when the eyes of the disciples are opened to see the true identity of Jesus. The meal conirms what their hearts feel and moves them to be witnesses to the world. One of the gifts we have received from Vatican II is a renewed understanding of the connection between word and sacrament. We cannot understand fully the meaning of the scriptures without knowing the feeling of being fed. We cannot be sent from that table on mission without having the ire of the Gospel kindled in our hearts. Every sharing of the Eucharist, then, is another turning point, in which word and sacrament transform us into witnesses of the living Christ. NURSE S CORNER April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Help raise public awareness about preventing child maltreatment and enhancing child wellbeing in our community. Spread the word, create interest, and encourage those in your network to get involved! ACEs include all types of abuse and neglect, parental mental illness, substance use, divorce, incarceration, and domestic violence. These experiences can lead to many different health issues including both physical and emotional illnesses. CPR/AED CLASS We will be having CPR/AED Class for St. Patrick CoCathedral Parishioners. It's no surprise that the Apostles were initially "startled and terriied" to the extent that they "thought that they were seeing a ghost." Jesus has compassion on his confused friends. Once he afirms his nonghostly identity"look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself"jesus gets down to business. He has risen from the dead, but life would not continue as normal. Throughout Jesus' ministry, he spoke in parables and veiled prophetic language. His followers likely thought much of his words were metaphors, some symbolism for the person and their relation to God. Now Jesus has something else in mind. He "opened their minds to understand the scriptures," making known the connections between his own words and deeds and "everything written about [him] in the law of Moses and in the prophets and psalms." Why now? Why this increased depth of understanding? The answer lies in the shifting role of the Apostles. "You are witnesses of these things." The treasury of truth is no longer Jesus' responsibility alone but our own. Then and there, the Apostles are appointed to proclaim the death and resurrection of Jesus, the forgiveness of sins and the mercy of God. This message is no longer for only the Jewish people but "all the nations." This is our invitation! We have the rich heritage of the Church's teaching. By sacramental grace, God's "peace" is "with [us]." We, too, are sent to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ and the hope that belongs to his call. 8May Leisa Anslinger Is Your Parish Ready to Grow Young? Spending a week at Saint Thomas Camp it's not hard to see why that's true. Saint Thomas Camp had it's humble beginnings in the 1920s. The Sisters of Providence who ran an orphanage in town began taking the children for excursions in the Monarch wilderness. On April 15th, 1958 the Sisters purchased the Karlson Ranch. They called their new property Saint Thomas Camp. In 1986, the Diocese of Great Falls Billings purchased the camp with the purpose of using the facility as a way to help teenagers experience Christ through a series of annual summer camps. It is our goal that every teenager who sets foot on the property would feel the love of Christ, experience a great adventure in the outdoors and be challenged to become the saint God wants them to be.
