1 밀리미터파대역도파관 - 마이크로스트립변환부설계및제작 함우형 *, 방재훈 *, 안병철 *, 정명숙 **, 노진입 ** Design and Fabrication of a Millimeter-Wave Waveguide-to-Microstrip Transition Woo-Hyung Ham*, Jae-Hoon Bang*, Bierng-Chearl Ahn*, Myung-Sook Jung** and Jin-Yip Roh** 요약 본논문에서는밀리미터파대역에서동작하며, RF 모듈에쉽게집적화할수있는프로브구조를이용한도파관-마이크로스트립변환부를설계하고제작하였다. 도파관-마이크로스트립변환부는마이크로스트립프로브와사각형도파관으로구성되어있다. 마이크로스트립선로는손실이적은순수테플론기판을이용하여구현하였다. 변환부의각설계파라미터를시뮬레이션을통하여최적화하였다. 제작된도파관-마이크로스트립변환구조를 back-to-back 으로연결하여측정한결과, 중심주파수에서-24 db의반사계수와 -.4 db의전달계수특성을보였다. Abstract We report a waveguide-to-microstrip transition based a probe structure for use in millimeter-wave RF modules. The proposed waveguide-to-microstrip transition is composed of a microstrip probe and a rectangular waveguide. The microstripline is realized using a low-loss substrate made of pure teflon. Design parameters of the transition are optimized using numerical simulation. The fabricated back-to-back transition exhibits reflection coefficient of -24 db and transmission coefficient of -.4 db Key words Waveguide-to-microstrip transition, Millimeter-wave, Passive MMW component I. 서론최근 RF 통신모듈의발전추세는 GHz 범위를넘어서 THz 대역까지확대되고있다 [1]. 또한주파수가높아짐에따라 CMOS, MEMS 등의집적화된모듈들이출현하고있으며, 이모듈들은반도체공 정을기반으로하는평면구조이다 [2]. 이에따라 RF front-end와안테나가직접연결될필요가있다. 이와같은경우흔히안테나는내부손실을고려하여도파관구조물인혼등이이용되며 RF 모듈의형상은기판형태로구현된다. 따라서도파관과마이크로스트립간의변환부를추가하여설계할필요 * 충북대학교전파통신공학과 ** 국방과학기술연구소 제 1 저자 (First Author): 함우형 접수일 : 29 년 1 월 5 일, 수정일 : 1 차 - 29 년 11 월 11 일, 게재확정일 : 29 년 11 월 14 일

2 64 韓國情報技術學會論文誌제 7 권제 6 호 29 년 12 월 성이대두되고있다. 도파관- 마이크로스트립변환부의설계구조로서는 antipodal finline[3]-[4] 을이용하는방법과릿지도파관을이용하는방법 [5] 및 E-field 프로브를이용하는방법 [6]-[8] 등이있다. Antipodal finline을이용하는방법은중요설계변수가기판에프린트된금속박막패턴에있어서재현성이뛰어나고, 정밀한금속가공이필요치않아저비용의장점이있지만수치해석이쉽지않아주로경험적인설계를통해제작되어왔다 [9]. 릿지도파관을이용한방법은일반도파관에비해광대역이며임피던스크기를가변할수있고, 도파관의단면이비교적마이크로스트립선로단면의모양과크기에접근할수있어전자계분포의불연속이덜심해안정된결과를도출할수있다 [5]. 본논문에서는간단한구조를갖고제작이쉬우며, 저비용의장점을가지고있는 E-field 프로브를이용한밀리미터파대역도파관-마이크로스트립변환부를설계및제작하였다. 체부분의넓은폭 (k1), 프로브와마이크로스트립종단접지면과의거리 (s), 연장된그라운드높이 (p) 등의효과를검토하였다. 도파관- 마이크로스트립변환부의동작개념을확보하기위해주요변수의변환에따른특성을파악하였다. Configuration of the waveguide-to-microstrip transition a/2 II. 본론 2.1 도파관-마이크로스트립변환부설계그림 1은프로브를이용한도파관-마이크로스트립변환부구조로서이해를돕기위해분해된모습을보인것이다. 마이크로스트립은도파관내부의전기장세기크기가가장큰전계면의중앙에삽입된다. 그림 2는주요설계변수들을보이고있다. 프로브의위치 (s) 는도파관중단단락면에서도파관관내파장의약 1/4지점이다. 프로브의길이 (lm) 를조정하여동작중심주파수에서낮은반사손실을가지도록한다. 프로브종단에서일정한간격을두고설치된높이 (p) 의금속은임피던스정합을위한것이다. 마이크로스트립기판의폭 k1과 k는도파관크기와벽두께를고려하여적절한값으로한다. 본논문에서는제시된주요설계변수들인마이크로스트립선로로구성된프로브길이 (lm), 마이크로스트립유전체부분의좁은폭 (k), 마이크로스트립유전 k 1 k w l s ( s+k/2 ) 2 p 그림 2. 마이크로스트립형상. 윗면, 아랫면 Fig. 2. Reflection versus parameter lm, reflection versus parameter k, (c) reflection versus parameter k1, (d) reflection versus parameter s, and (e) reflection versus parameter p 표 1은도파관-마이크로스트립변환부의기판두께, 기판유전율, 손실탄젠트, 도체두께, 변환부를구성하는각구성요소들의최종설계된크기및치수를보여준다. 동작주파수와도파관광벽 a의치수는저자소속기관의규정상명기하지않았다. 최적설계에는 CST사의 Microwave Studio (M.W.S) 를사용하였다. 그림 4는표 1의값을이용하여 2개의도파관- 마이크로스트립변환부를 back-to-back으로연결한구조의시뮬레이션을한결과를나타내고있다.

Front view of the back-to-back structure 제작된변환부의특성을 Agilent N525A PNA를이용하여분석하였다. 밀리미터파대역에서는한파장의길이가짧기때문에회로기판에칭작업시상당한주의를요하고있다. 도파관블록제작시에도도파관전계면으로나누었기때문에플랜지좌우에위치한 hole의볼트탭작업으로인하여면이매끄럽지못할경우도발생할수있기때문에오차가발생할수도있다. 2.2 제작및측정결과 설계된밀리미터파대역도파관-마이크로스트립변환부는측정의편의를위해두개의도파관- 마이크로스트립변환부를 back-to-back 구조로연결하여제작되었다. 5 밀리미터파대역도파관 - 마이크로스트립변환부설계및제작 67 그림 7은도파관-마이크로스트립변환부의시뮬레이션과측정된반사계수와전달계수를나타내었다. 그림 7 는시뮬레이션과제작물의반사계수를나타낸그림으로서두결과가모두비슷한형태를보이고있으며공진도중심주파수에서비교적일치함을보이고있다. 그림 7 는전달계수를나타낸그림으로서시뮬레이션과측정이모두비슷한형태를보이고있으며공진도중심주파수에서비교적일치함을보이고있다. 제작된변환부의특성은중심주파수에서입출력반사계수는 -24 db이고, 전달계수는 -.4 db 이다. 여기서그래프에서는전달계수가 -.8 db 의값을보이고있으나제작된구조가 back-to-back구조이므로측정된전달계수의 db 값을반으로나누어줘야한다. Reflection, and transmission Ⅲ. 결론본논문에서는밀리미터파대역에서의 RF 모듈설계를위해필요한도파관-마이크로스트립변환부를제안하였다. 제작된변환부는간단한구조인프로브를이용하였고, 순수테플론마이크로스트립이사용되었다. 최적화는 CST사의 Microwave Studio 를이용하였다. 제작된변환부의특성은중심주파수에서입출력반사계수가 -24 db이고, 전달계수는 -.4 db 이다. 시뮬레이션의결과와측정결과는거의일치함을알수있다. 밀리미터파대역의시스템구현과시스템및회로특성측정시에주로구형도파관을전송선으로사용하는데, 이는손실이적고여러수동소자가잘개발되어있으나밀리미터파회로들은보통마이크로스트립상에서제작되므로전체시스템구현을위해서는마이크로스트립과도파관과의적절한연결이필요하게된다. 따라서본논문에서연구된도파관-마이크로스트립변환부는간단한구조로구현이가능하고, 반사손실및삽입손실의우수한특성을나타내므로향후 RF 모듈의제작에활용될수있는계기를마련하였다. 참고문헌 [1] 최재익, 김재명, 무선통신 방송서비스및기술발전전망, 한국전자통신연구원주간기술동향제 1호, 21년 6월.
