1 NEHEMIAH,, 1 Introduction, Background and Chapter One Lesson 1,,. In the Hebrew Bible the books of Ezra and Nehemiah are one book because both record the spiritual, moral and physical restoration of Jerusalem.,... Although Nehemiah served in the Persian administration as the cupbearer to the king, his heart was in Jerusalem with the refugees. When he heard about the pitiful plight of the people in Jerusalem, he turned his grief to prayer. God miraculously answered Nehemiah s prayer by giving him clearance and authority to return and oversee the restoration of the walls of Jerusalem.... His endeavor was not without opposition. The adversaries of Jerusalem were relentless and ruthless in their schemes to thwart the restoration of the walls. Nevertheless, Nehemiah persevered triumphantly in leading the people in rebuilding the walls.... The book of Nehemiah is a lesson in spiritual victory through opposition. Nehemiah is an example of godly perseverance and triumph. This book will equip the reader with the tools to recognize and resist the schemes of the enemy and to triumph victoriously in the work of the Lord.. Before beginning your study of this noble book, ask the Lord to enlighten your heart and mind to all that He desires to teach you. BACKGROUND NEHEMIAH:. Nehemiah must have felt that way as he interceded four months for Jerusalem with prayer and fastings until an extraordinary door was opened. God opened the way for Nehemiah to return to Jerusalem and lead the restoration. He also used Nehemiah in the fulfillment of the prophesy given in Daniel 9:25. What aspect of last week s lesson or lecture on Nehemiah 3 and 4 ministered to you the most? : Even while the wall of Jerusalem was being rebuilt, internal opposition arose. The Jews themselves were oppressing each other and the unity and success of the work was jeopardized. What lesson did you receive from Nehemiah 5? :1-7. : A new wave of opposition came when the adversaries heard that the wall of Jerusalem had been rebuilt. The enemies sought in earnest to pursue, distract and discourage Nehemiah. Undaunted, Nehemiah continued in the work of the Lord.
