The bilateral conference was designed to introduce Korea's high speed train system for the Brazilian national project of constructing high speed rail between Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo. Presenting at the event from both countries were Afonso Carmeire Filho, Director of Foreign Affairs of Ministry of Transportation, Jose Francisco das Neves, President of Railway Facilities Corporation and Antonio Cosenza, Technical Director of Metropolitan Railway of Ministry of Transportation. From the Korean side, National Assembly member, Hak-Jin Moon, Director Korea Research Council of Public Science and Technology, Young-nak Choi, President of Korea Railroad Corporation, Churl Lee and President of Korea Railroad Research Institute, Nam-hee Chae. 2 0 0 6. 0 9 + 1 0 5

KRNA's best management paid Korea Rail Network Authority(KRNA) snatched the best award of management for the public sector of Korea 2006 accredited by Korea Management Association. The awarding ceremony was held September 12 at Convention Center of the Grand Hotel in Seoul. KRNA was highly recognized for the organization's implementing innovative management activities with establishment of master plan systematically by introducing advanced management plans like 6 Sigma. The best awardee successfully revolutionized its key elements of people, products, processes and culture within the framework. Korail implements more reforms In accordance with the government's plan of "Comprehensive Schemes for management improvement of Korea Railroad Corporation", Korail consolidated and merged four associate companies into two in an effort to streamline the structure of the organization. In the board meeting that was held on August 27, Korail came up with its final reform plan to cut its 15 affiliates down to 9. In pursuant to the framework, Korail Service Net was merged with IP&C while Pabalma Corp. and Korea Railway Development were united on Aug. 22. Korail cuts deal with JR Freight Korea Railroad Corporation and JR Freight of Japan signed an agreement September 12 at Korail Headquarters, Daejon for the project of consolidated transportation services of cargo via rail&sea&rail routes. The agreement is expected to bring in faster transportation of cargo at reasonable price beginning early next year. Opening of Kyeongwon Line at hand Korea Rail Network Authority and Korea Railroad Corporation joined together September 13-14 to discuss the time of completion and possibilities of test run on track of the Gyeongwon line(uijeongbu- Dongducheon) on which double track construction is scheduled to be complete end of this year. The project for improvement of Gyeongwon line began October 1997 to construct 22.3km of double track between Uijeongbu and Dongducheon and 2.5km of single track between Dongducheon and Mt.
