In the Hebrew Bible the books of Ezra and Nehemiah are one book because both record the spiritual, moral and physical restoration of Jerusalem.,... Although Nehemiah served in the Persian administration as the cupbearer to the king, his heart was in Jerusalem with the refugees. When he heard about the pitiful plight of the people in Jerusalem, he turned his grief to prayer. God miraculously answered Nehemiah s prayer by giving him clearance and authority to return and oversee the restoration of the walls of Jerusalem.... His endeavor was not without opposition. The adversaries of Jerusalem were relentless and ruthless in their schemes to thwart the restoration of the walls. Nevertheless, Nehemiah persevered triumphantly in leading the people in rebuilding the walls.... The book of Nehemiah is a lesson in spiritual victory through opposition. Nehemiah is an example of godly perseverance and triumph. This book will equip the reader with the tools to recognize and resist the schemes of the enemy and to triumph victoriously in the work of the Lord.. Nehemiah had spent twelve years of his life working to secure the people of Judah. During that time he had labored, served without wages, been threatened and reproached; yet, he had been successful in rebuilding the walls and establishing the practice of God s law. Returning to Jerusalem years later he found that the people had fallen back into their old ways. Read Chapter 13 noting Nehemiah s painful discoveries. Provide a title for each section below: a.
