2 인사말 Greetings 이스라엘과중동계젊은연주자들로구성된다니엘바렌보임의이스트-웨스트디반오케스트라 (West-Eastern Divan Orchestra) 는전쟁지역인팔레스타인의임시수도라말라의폐허가된장소에서평화연주회를개최하여 (2005년) 음악을통해인종적편견을극복하고평화와화합의메시지를전한바있습니다. 이에영감을받아저는 2009년, 한반도평화의중요성을세계적으로알리고자린덴바움페스티벌오케스트라 (Lindenbaum Festival Orchestra) 를창단하였고, 그동안 화해와평화 라는주제로전세계분쟁지역과 DMZ 등에서평화콘서트를개최해왔습니다. 지난 10년간린덴바움페스티벌오케스트라는남한과북한의합동연주를위한꿈을향해나아가고있었습니다. 지난 2019 년 5월 12일상하이에서저와북한소프라노김송미와함께남북클래식공동연주회를가졌습니다. 이연주회를마친후, 저는어떠한예측불허의상황에서도양국의문화적또는시민적교류를위한지속가능한계획이추진될수있도록기반을마련하는것이필수적이라는것을깨달았습니다. 최근, 린덴바움페스티벌오케스트라는동부코네티컷심포니오케스트라의 Toshiyuki Shimada ( 예일대학교 ) 지휘자와함께 DMZ에서공연을갖고, Tod Machover (MIT 미디어랩 ) 교수와남북한교향곡 ('The Symphony for the Koreas') 공동프로젝트를론칭하며, 텐진줄리어드음악학교와함께평화의섬제주에서연주회등을추진해오고있었습니다. 이번제주평화워크숍과콘서트를위해이런세계유수의대학전문가와예술가들이힘을합쳤습니다. 이번제주워크숍의주제는 평화를위한지속가능한문화교량 (Sustainable Cultural Bridge for Peace in Korea) 입니다. 워크숍을통해, 음악이어떻게한반도의평화에기여할수있는지를토론하고, 나아가문화와의료등, 북한과의협력프로그램의구체적성공사례와경험을소개하며지속가능한문화교량을모색해보고자합니다. 제주4 3평화재단에서열리는평화음악회는세계적인음악대학텐진줄리어드교수진을초청하여린덴바움페스티벌오케스트라와콜라보무대를구성하고, 청소년음악가들과함께기획연주회를펼칩니다. 특히, 평화음악회는제주 4.3의비극의아픔을공감하고평화로나아가는메시지를담아, 세계적인문화교류와음악번영의지속과달성을기원하며연주곡들을선정했습니다. 린덴바움페스티벌오케스트라창립 10주년을맞이하여국내외저명한전문가와예술가들, 그리고청소년들이참여하여기량을펼칠이번평화워크숍과음악회에함께해주셔서감사합니다. Daniel Barenboim's East-West Divan Orchestra, a group of young Israeli and Middle Eastern performers, held a peace concert at the devastated site of the war-torn Palestinian capital Ramallah (2005) to overcome racial prejudice and deliver a message of peace and harmony. Inspired by this, in 2009, I decided to promote the importance of peace on the Korean Peninsula to the world, Lindenbaum Festival Orchestra. It was founded and has held peace concerts in conflict zones and DMZs around the world under the theme of reconciliation and peace. For the past 10 years, the Lindenbaum Festival Orchestra has been moving toward a dream for a joint performance between South and North Korea. On May 12, 2019, I and North Korean soprano Kim Song-mi held a joint concert in Shanghai. After this concert, I realized that it was essential to lay the groundwork for sustainable planning for cultural or civic exchanges between the two countries under any unforeseen circumstances. Recently, the Lindenbaum Festival Orchestra was performing in the DMZ with the conductor of the East Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, co-launching ' Symphony for the Koreas' project with Professor Tod Machover (MIT Media Lab), and performing in Jeju Island with the Tianjin Juilliard School. The world's leading university experts and artists have joined forces for the Jeju Peace Workshop and the concert. The theme of the Jeju workshop is Sustainable Cultural Bridge for Peace in Korea. Through the workshop, I would like to discuss how music can contribute to peace on the Korean Peninsula and further introduce the specific success stories and experiences of cooperation programs with North Korea, including culture and health care, to seek possible cultural bridges. The Peace Concert to be held at the Jeju 4.3 Peace Foundation invites Professor Tianjin Juilliard, a world-class music university, to form a collaboration stage with the Lindenbaum Festival Orchestra and hold a planning concert with young musicians. In particular, the Peace Concert selected pieces to wish for the continuation and achievement of world-class cultural exchanges and musical prosperity, with a message of sympathy for the tragedy and pain of Jeju 4.3 and moving toward peace. 4 WORKSHOP PROGRAM PEACE WORKSHOP PEACE WORKSHOP 화요일오후 2 시 ~4 시 장소 : 제주대학교아라컨벤션홀 평화를위한지속가능한문화교량 Sustainable Cultural Bridge for Peace in Korea 이번워크숍을통해, 음악이어떻게한반도의평화에기여할수있는지를토론하고, 나아가문화와의료등, 북한과의협력프로그램의구체적성공사례와경험을소개하며지속가능한문화교량을모색해보고자합니다. 특히, 이번워크숍에서는미국메사추세츠공과대 (MIT), 미디어랩학과장이자세계적작곡가인토드마코버 (Tod Machover) 교수가참가하여, 현재추진중인 남북한교향곡 (Symphony for the Koreas) 프로젝트를소개합니다. Sustainable Cultural Bridge for Peace in Korea Through this workshop, we are going to discuss how music can contribute to peace on the Korean Peninsula, and further introduce specific successes and experiences in cooperation programs with North Korea, including culture and medicine, and seek sustainable cultural bridges. In particular, the workshop will be attended by Professor Todd Macover, the head of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Media Lab, and world-renowned composer. Join us to introduce Symphony for the Koreas project that we are currently working on. MIT Media Lab is the world's leading media convergence technology institute. Professor Macover, the director of the institute's department, is famous for performing new concepts that have been applied technology to audiovisual arts such as music and performance. In the meantime, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, violinist Joshua Bell, the Boston Pops Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra have made headlines around the world. Professor Macover announced plans to work in concert with Lindenbaum early this year to launch the Inter-Korean Symphony Project and to deliver the message of peace to the world through music. This Jeju workshop describes the purpose of Symphony for the Koreas project, and introduces the collaborative cultural project process of experts and citizens who collect and incorporate various sounds from the Korean Peninsula into the symphony. Starting in Jeju, we will perform symphonies from South and North Korea in Seoul, Pyongyang, and the United States. It also invites Dr. Park Ki-beom, who works at Harvard Medical School's School of Global Health and Social Studies, to look for another successful example of an exchange program with North Korea. Dr. Park Ki-beom has been pursuing inter-korean exchange and cooperation projects by promoting activities such as medical tourism to North Korea, international medical conferences cohosted by the North Korean Medical Association every two years, participation programs for medical students, overseas training support for North Korean doctors, research and publishing, and equipment procurement Lindenbaum Organization PEACE WORKSHOP & CONCERT 7

The 1 st Lindenbaum Festival Orchestra started in 2009 with the idea of Global Talent Growth comprised of 100 talented musical artists. Through combination chords and harmony, the Festival Orchestra emphasizes the importance of communication and promotes the significance of cultural education. Mission statement: One People One Harmony was created with the idea of forgiveness and peace; it is unrestricted by race, nationality, or politics. In attempts to ease the nuclear tension in North Korea, Festival Orchestra held a concert in the Korean border DMZ, which was featured on CNN as a Symbol of Peace. Lindenbaum Orchestra has been recognized by the International Music Council as the first musical organization from South Korea. The Orchestra is built on the Global Peace initiative, spreading the idea through harmonic communications. On December 16th, 2017, the Lindenbaum Youth Orchestra was established with its opening ceremony to share the value of music that the Lindenbaum Festival Orchestra has built for society with young people. The Lindenbaum Youth Orchestra is pursuing a music festival to create harmonies, mentored by Lindenbaum Festival Ensemble musicians, composed of top performers from all over the world. In 2018, we played Arirang and Olympic Fanfare for the successful hosting of the PyeongChang Winter Olympic torch relay and introduced the educational philosophy of Lindenbaum. The Lindenbaum Festival Orchestra is part of the International Music Council (IMC) since April 4 as a first Korean music organization, in recognition of the philosophy of Lindenbaum. Furthermore, the Lindenbaum Festival Orchestra aims to reach out to the world with the theme of "Global Peace Sharing through Music Education." InKyu Kim Lost Song II from 5 Bagatelles 빛이되소서 ( 노래 : 강혜명, 작사 : 이화인, 작곡 : 한수란 ) Be Light, Soprano Hye-myung Kang Flora (1990) Tod Machover composed Flora in the summer of 1989 in collaboration with Japanese computer graphics artist Yoichiro Kawaguchi. The piece combines numerous sonic layers, from electronics to the voice of Karol Bennett, to make new hybrids and to allow textures to flow freely and surprisingly from state to state. The melody serves as a guide, a kind of musical tie-line, through the varied musical landscape as complex counterpoint grows out of, and surrounds, the lyrical core. After a simple beginning, Flora flowers into short variations of increasing complexity, a kind of structure Machover often uses in his compositions, returning at the end to twist the opening major key melody into a questioning minor mode. This structure was particularly important in giving Flora a sense of both visual and musical continuity. As in much of Machover s music, Flora celebrates the human voice (Machover is well-known for his many innovative operas), virtuosically uses advanced technology to juxtapose and combine diverse sonic elements, creates a sense of dramatic emotional journey, blends melodyharmony-texture to create an innovative yet accessible sound, and feels simultaneously super-simple and densely complex. And although unlike much of his music that combines live performance, new instruments/interfaces, and interactive technology Flora is a pure listening experience for prerecorded electronics, Machover says: Listening to Flora is an excellent introduction to most of my other pieces, a kind of theme song for my oeuvre. GAMMIFIED (2019) Tod Machover composed GAMMIFIED in the spring of 2019, commissioned by the world-renowned Kronos Quartet as part of their fiveyear 50 for the Future project. In partnership with Carnegie Hall and others, the project has commissioned 50 composers 25 men and 25 women to create a free library of works designed to guide young amateur and early-career professional string quartets to develop and hone the skills required for performing 21st-century repertoire. GAMMIFIED is both a contribution to 21st century string quartet repertoire (played today for the first time in a new version for clarinet, violin, viola and cello plus electronics) and a musical experiment for the human brain. This work builds on the breakthrough discovery made by scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology s Media Lab that Gamma frequencies resonating at 40-hertz (with a fundamental sounding at approximately the low-e of the piano or double bass) show astonishing results in treating Alzheimer s disease and in promoting general mental wellbeing. In GAMMIFIED, Machover for the first time embeds Gamma frequencies into a musical composition, exploring how to focus listener attention and interest while delivering the benefits of Gamma therapy. The piece starts with solo Gamma frequencies that are gradually joined and extended by the live instruments. The low Gamma pedal-tone remains, while the players turn the Gamma spectrum into more-and-more freely vibrating, independent musical strains. After splintering into overlaid fragments, a melody in the violin spins out of the texture, gathering the other instruments into a brilliant build-up. All settles down after a small Gamma explosion resynchronizes the musical elements, and our minds as well Lindenbaum Organization PEACE WORKSHOP & CONCERT 11

플로라는 단순한 멜로디를 시작으로 점진적으로 증가하는 복잡하고 다양한 음악적 변형으로 꽃을 피웁니다. 막코버 교수가 종종 작곡에서 사용하는 이 구조는 메이저키와 마이너키를 넘나들며 플로라가 시각적, 음악적으로 연속성을 갖는데 특히 중요한 기법입니다.

GAMMIFIED (2019) GAMMIFIED는 "미래를 위한 50" 프로젝트의 일환으로 세계적으로 유명한 크로노스 쿼텟 (Kronos Quartet)이 위촉된 2019년 봄에 막코버 교수가 작곡했습니다.

이 연구는 매사추세츠 공과 대학 (Massachusetts Institute of Technology)의 미디어 랩 (Media Lab)의 과학자들이 개발한 획기적인 발명으로, 감마 주파수가 40 헤르츠 (피아노 또는 더블 저음의 약 E에서 근본적으로 울리는)에서 공명하는 것은 알츠하이머 병 치료에 놀라운 결과를 보여주며 질병을 예방하고 일반적인 정신

Michelle Park 영상 내용 : 평화, 비폭력이라는 큰 주제 아래, 미술적 효과를 통해 사람들에게 차분한 감정을 안겨주고자 한다. 편곡 : 김인규 골드파스타 아리랑 메들리 (2019 린덴바움페스티벌 위촉) 골드파스타는 2016년 8월 한국국제학교 제주 캠퍼스의 경기 아리랑, 진도 아리랑, 강원도 아리랑, 밀양 아리랑을 엮어서 만들었다. 세마치 장단과 엇모리 장단을 바탕으로 단순 간결한 민요선율에 다채로운 동아리로 출범한 학생 밴드이다. 15명의 관악기, 건반, 색깔을 부여했고, 가야금의 역할을 부각시켰다. 기타, 베이스, 드럼, 타악기 연주자들과 3명의 객원 보컬리스트 및 객원 현악 연주자들로 구성되어 총 6번의 Lost Song II from 5 Bagatelles (2018 가온소리 앙상블 위촉) 사막 어딘가에 존재했다 사라진 나라를 상상하며 만들었다. 곡 전체에 이국적인 정취와 잊혀진 것들에 대한 아련한 그리움이 감돈다. 원래 네 대의 최형열, 드럼 비올라를 위한 곡이고, 이번 연주를 위해 편곡하였다. Hyung Yul Choe, Drum 단독 공연을 진행하였으며 수익금은 한국장애인총연맹, 캄보디아 시엠리프 Music for Everyone School (MES)등에 기부하였다. 음악 이외의 교내 행사 진행 등을 도맡아 교내 학생들의 조화와 각종 예술활동의 기반이 Arirang medley 되는 그룹으로 거듭났다. 이번 2019 린덴바움 제주 It was made by weaving Arirang in Gyeonggi Province, Arirang in Jindo, Arirang in Gangwon Province and Arirang in Miryang. Based on 챔버 콘서트에서 연주를 선보일 골드파스타의 유닛그룹 Semachi and Ouemori rhythms, the simple and concise folk song melody was given a variety of colors, highlighting the role of Gayageum. Joe Cho Trio는 2014년 결성하여 블루스, R&B, 재즈를 중심으로 즉흥연주에 기반을 둔 밴드로 골드파스타의 Lost Song II from 5 Bagatelles It was somewhere in the desert. I made it by imagining a country that had disappeared. There is an exotic atmosphere throughout the song and the wistful remembrance of forgotten things.
