110 Rhetoric studies on wasf Structure in Song of Songs 4:1-7; 5:10-15. Jeung-Won Kim Traditionally, the song of songs was interpreted with allegorical interpretation which did not concern in figurative language. Especially, song of songs have a lot of rhetorical devices to describe the physical beauty of man and woman. But allegorical interpretation do not pay attention on these rhetorical devices. As a result, traditional interpretation on the song of songs was interpreted with a loving relationship between God and israel or Christ and church. But a literal interpretation of the Song of Songs appeared sufficiently on the beauty of man and woman through the Wasf structure which is to describe the physical beauty from head to toe or conversely. On the top-down structure, the beauty of a woman culminates in the chest. Man also has same structure like woman. The beauty of strong man culminates on the compared foot with cedar of Lebanon. Depicting the beauty of man and woman s poetic metaphor or simile make a visual, olfactory and gustatory. If we follow the traditional interpretation of the Song of Songs, we can find physical beauty of man and woman. The depicted physical beauty on the Song of Songs is not obscenity. In the beginning, God gave a sex as a gift to man and woman. In the corrupt world, The right interpretation of the Song of Songs can make right sexual culture.
