[Abstract] A study on the holding of Palgwanhoe( ) and the exchange of international culture in Goryeo period. Jeon, Young-Joon (Research Professor of Chung-Ang Univ.) Palgwanhoe[ ] in Goryeo period was national event serving Heaven Spirits, Five Peaks (Mountains), Famous Mountains, Great Stream, and Dragon God and sacrificing toward heroes gave up their lives for their country with the king, his servants, and people and wish the peace of country and the royal family. In other words, the offering rites to the heavens handing down from ancient was combined with Buddhist rituals and held by considering the Goryeo government's commitment having international-oriented culture. From the beginning of the Goryeo, it made an important opportunity each country 's envoys and traders looking for as well as Cultural Festival being sustained for the purpose of the peace of country. Holding Palgwanhoe, fused by taking directly the culture of the Islamic system actively utilized in life culture of Southeast Asia as well as the West through exchanges with Song China. This cultural fusion was also appeared Jigwangguksa's[ ] pagoda in Beopcheonsa's site built in the mid-11th century and the cultural fusion of Goryeo had already been active in society as a whole. Exchanges of cultural products Goryeo aimed were considered by the government's demands, but they came from the directivity rectifying public sentiment by using Buddhism and clarifying the country's prestige externally. For this reason, Goryeo's culture itself had shown an open attitude toward other cultures internationally. Especially the aspects the cultural acceptance centering Goryeo Buddhism revealed in attitudes trying to raise the cultural level by clearly inviting the other countries' craftsmen, but became more evident through positive exchange of goods with neighboring countries.
