1 논문 전자전미약신호환경에서미상위협신호원의검출성능향상을위한가중에너지검출기법 김동규, 김요한 *, 이유리 *, 장충수 **, 김형남 Weighted Energy Detector for Detecting Uunknown Threat Signals in Electronic Warfare System in Weak Power Signal Environment Dong-Gyu Kim, Yo-Han Kim *, Yu-Ri Lee *, Chungsu Jang **, Hyoung-Nam Kim 요 약 위협의핵심정보추출을위해활용되는전자전지원시스템은경로손실등의환경상제약으로인해수신신호의전력이낮은미약신호환경하에서운용될수있다. 이러한상황에서위협신호를신속하고정확하게검출하기위해서는기존의단일샘플에너지검출기법이아닌수신신호의전체에너지를최대한활용함으로써검출성능을향상시키는기법이요구된다. 하지만신호원에대한사전정보가존재하지않는전자전환경에서신호의전체에너지를활용하기위해서는모든신호원의길이를고려할수있도록크기가다양한다수의윈도우를가지는검출기를설계해야하므로연산량이과도하게증가하는문제점이존재한다. 이러한문제를현실적으로해결하기위해적은수의대표윈도우를사용하여윈도우의수를줄이는방법이활용되지만결과적으로하나의윈도우가일정구간의미상신호를고려해야하므로수신되는신호의길이와검출기의윈도우크기의불일치로인해검출성능이저하되는문제점이여전히존재한다. 따라서본논문에서는수신신호의길이와검출기의윈도우길이가일치하지않을경우의성능저하를분석하고, 성능향상이가능한상황인수신신호의길이가검출기의윈도우길이보다작은경우에는검출성능을향상시킬수있고, 이외의상황에는기존의에너지검출기의성능과유사한가중에너지검출기를제안하고그성능을분석한다. Key Words : Electronic warfare, Energy detection, Weak power environment ABSTRACT Electronic warfare systems for extracting information of the threat signals can be employed under the circumstance where the power of the received signal is weak. To precisely and rapidly detect the threat signals, it is required to use methods exploiting whole energy of the received signals instead of conventional methods using a single received signal input. To utilize the whole energy, numerous sizes of windows need to be implemented in a detector for dealing with all possible unknown length of the received signal because it is assumed that there is no preliminary information of the uncooperative signals. 2 requires too large computational complexity to be practically implemented. In order to resolve this complexity problem, an approach that reduces the number of windows by selecting the smaller number of representative windows can be considered. However, each representative window in this approach needs to cover a certain amount of interval divided from the considering range. Consequently, the discordance between the length of the received signal and the window sizes results in degradation of the detection performance. Therefore, we propose the weighted energy detector which results in improved detection performance comparing with the conventional energy detector under circumstance where the window size is smaller than the length of the received signal. In addition, it is shown that the proposed method exhibits the same performance under other circumstances. Ⅰ. 서론전자전에서기민한전략수립을통해아군의전략적우위를확보하기위해서는, 전자전지원시스템을통하여위협신호원의제원및위치등의핵심정보를추출하는과정이요구된다. 이러한핵심정보추출을성공적으로수행하기위해서는위협으로부터방사되는통신또는레이더신호를신속하고정확하게탐지하는것이필수적으로선행되어야한다 [1,2]. 전자전환경에서위협이방사하는신호는펄스압축, 주파수도약등의피탐확률을줄이는다양한방법의변조방식이사용되고있지만 [3][4], 아군의수신기에서는변조방식, 주파수등과같은신호형태에대한사전정보가대부분주어지지않는상황이다. 신호에대한사전정보가없는환경에서신호를검출하기위해서는기본적으로 Neyman-Pearson 이론을기준으로고정된오경보율 (false alarm rate) 에대하여최대검출성능을가지는최적 (optimal) 검출기에미상파라미터를추정하여대입하는 GLRT(generalized likelihood ratio test) 방법을사용하며, 최종적으로에너지검출기로귀결된다 [5]. 기존의전자전지원시스템의신호검출기법은에너지검출기를기반으로수행되어왔으며, 가장기본적으로수신기에서순차적으로획득되는하나의샘플의에너지를사전에설정된오경보확률로부터도출되는임계값과지속적으로비교하여, 임계값을상회하는순간에신호가존재하는것으로판단하는방법을사용한다 [6-8]. 하지만, 기술의발달로인해피탐확률을줄이는다양한방법의변조방식이활용되고있고, 신속한신호정보의획득을위해서는아군의전자전시스템이위협레이더에비해긴탐지거리가요구되므로, 경로손실로인한수신신호의세기가미약한신호환경에서신호탐지를수행해야하는어려움을가지고있다. 따라서기존의한샘플에대한에너지만을활용하는기법은미약신호환경에서의검출성능이저하 되는문제점이존재하므로, 최근에는이를해결하기위해수신신호전체의에너지를최대한활용하는방법이연구되고있다 [9]. 수신된에너지를모두활용하기위해서는수신신호의길이에대한정보가필요하지만, 광범위한전투종심에수많은감시정찰및정밀타격전력들이분산운용되어대규모작전형태를띄는현대전에서는각작전요소들의운용목적에따라정보전달을위한지속파통신신호부터, 위치추정을위한짧은펄스형레이더신호 (short pulse), 그리고속도추정에필요한도플러정보를짧은펄스형신호에비해획득하기용이한긴펄스형레이더신호 (long pulse) 에이르기까지다양한길이의신호를선택적으로활용하고있다 [10]. 이러한각위협작전요소들의신호길이에대한다양성은사전정보가경미한전자전지원시스템에서수신신호전체의에너지정보를활용하는것을방해하는요소이므로, 검출기를설계하는과정에서미상위협신호의길이에대한고려가필수적으로요구된다. 수신신호의형태에대한정보가존재하지않을경우, 이론적으로최대검출성능을가지는에너지검출기는수신신호의길이에대한정보를보유하고있다는가정을포함하고있다 [5]. 하지만, 실제적인전자전환경에서는상기한다양한길이의신호가수신되므로, 검출기가고려하는신호길이와실제로수신되는신호길이가일치하지않는상황에서는검출성능의열화가발생한다. 이러한문제는다수의에너지검출기를병렬적으로수행하여검출성능을향상시키는방법을활용하여해결할수있으나, 고려하는신호길이가수백 ns에서수백 μs에이르는다양한신호에대한모든길이의에너지검출기를병렬적으로구현할경우, 연산량이급격하게증가하는문제점이발생한다. 이러한연산량의증가문제를해결하기위해참고문헌 [9] 는 100 ns에서 1 μs 구간 1 μs에서 10 μs 구간및 10 μs 에서 100 μs 구간을나누어대표적인길이를설정하여적은수의에너지검출기를병렬적으로사용하는 640

3 논문 / 전자전미약신호환경에서미상위협신호원의검출성능향상을위한가중에너지검출기법 방법을제안하였다. 하지만대표적인소수의윈도우를설정하여검출을수행하더라도여전히일정구간에대해서하나의대표윈도우길이를가지는에너지검출기를사용하므로실제로수신되는신호길이와완벽하게일치하지않는상황이발생하여검출성능이저하되는문제점이존재한다. 따라서본논문에서는고려하는일정구간에대해서하나의윈도우길이를가지는에너지검출기를사용할때, 검출기의윈도우길이와실제신호의길이가일치하는최적검출상황에비해일치하지않을경우의성능이열화되는현상을정량적으로분석한다. 여기서발생하는성능열화를분석하면, 수신신호의길이에비해검출기의윈도우길이가긴경우, 신호에비해잡음이많이포함되는문제점이있고, 윈도우길이가짧은경우, 전체신호를전부고려하지못하게되므로이러한현상으로인해성능열화를유발하게된다. 따라서본논문에서는최종적으로수신되는잡음의효과를줄임으로써윈도우길이가실제신호의길이보다긴경우에검출성능을향상시킬수있도록에너지검출기에가중치를부여하는가중에너지검출기를제안하고그성능을분석한다. 본논문의구성은다음과같다. 먼저 II장에서에너지검출기의윈도우길이와실제수신신호의길이가일치하지않을경우의성능열화를분석한다. III장에서는본논문에서제안하는가중에너지검출기에대해상세히설명하고, IV장에서모의실험결과를바탕으로제안한가중에너지검출기와기존에너지검출기및최적성능을비교한다. 마지막으로 V장에서본논문의결론을맺는다. Ⅱ. 단일에너지검출기의성능열화분석본장에서는에너지검출기의윈도우길이가실제수신되는신호의길이와일치하지않을경우발생하는성능열화를분석한다. 이때, 대부분의레이더에서활용되는신호의경우주파수변조, 위상변조등을사용하고진폭변조를활용하지않으므로신호의파워는일정한것으로가정하였으며분석의편의를위해서 2 μs부터 16 μs까지의범위에서길이가두배가되는신호인 2 μs, 4 μs, 8 μs, 그리고 16 μs 총 4가지신호원에대하여모의실험을수행하였다. 신호원검출은기본적으로가설 (hypotheses) 설정, 검정통계치 (test statistics) 설정, 임계값 (threshold) 설정및가설검정 (test & decision) 순서로이루어지는데, 전자전에서신호원의유무에대한두가지가설 모델은식 (1) 과같이설정된다 [5]. (1) 여기서, 은수집한샘플의개수, 는가우시안잡음 만존재하는경우의가설, 은잡음환경에경로감쇠가포함된위협의송신신호 이존재하는가설을나타낸다. 수신신호의정보가없는상황에서가설로부터검정통계치를설정하기위해서는, Neyman-Pearson 이론으로유도되는식 (2) 와같은우도비검정 (likelihood ratio test) 에 MLE(maximum likelihood estimation) 기법으로추정된위협의송신신호 을대입하여도출하며, 최종적으로식 (3) 과같이정의되는검증통계치를사용하는에너지검출기로귀결된다 [5]. (2) (3) 여기서 는각가설을만족시키는 이수신될확률을나타내며, 는임계값으로설계자가설정하는오경보율 (false alarm rate) 에의해결정된다. 그림 1(a) 는에너지검출기의윈도우길이와실제수신되는신호의길이가일치하는경우의 SNR(signal to noise ratio) 대비검출확률을도시한것으로, 샘플링주파수는 150 MHz, 오경보율은 10-3, 각 SNR에대한시행횟수는 100,000회로설정하였다. 그림으로부터길이가두배가되는경우에이론적인에너지검출기의성능향상수치인 [5] 1.5 db 만큼성능이향상되는것을확인할수있다. 그림 1(b), 1(c), 1(d) 는에너지검출기의윈도우길이가실제수신되는신호의길이와일치하지않는경우의검출성능을도시한것으로서각각 2 μs, 4 μs, 16 μs의윈도우를사용하였으며다른모의실험환경은그림 1(a) 와동일하다. 그림 1(b) 에서 2 μs의윈도우를사용한결과를살펴보면, 길이가일치하는 2 μs 신호원에대해서는그림 2(a) 와동일한검출성능을가지지만, 신호원이 2 μs보다긴경우에는윈도우길이가 2 μs로고정되어있기때문에, 더긴길이의신호를고려하지못하게되어검출 641

4 성능이 2 μs 신호원에대한검출성능과동일한것을확인할수있다. 반면에그림 1(d) 의에너지검출기의윈도우길이가 16 μs인경우에는 16 μs 신호원에대해서는그림 1(a) 와동일한검출성능을가지지만신호원이 16 μs보다짧은경우에는, 신호원의길이와일치하는윈도우길이를사용한방법에비해잡음이포함되는구간이많아지게되므로, 검출성능이열화되는것을알수있다. 마지막으로그림 1(c) 는 4 μs의윈도우를사용한것으로, 4 μs이상의길이를가지는신호원에대해서는 4 μs의신호원에대한검출성능과동일한성능을가지고, 4 μs이하의신호에대해서는잡음에의한성능열화가발생하고 4 μs 이상의신호에대해서는신호전체를고려하지못하여성능열화가발생하므로그림 1(b) 와그림 1(d) 의현상이복합적으로일어나는것을확인할수있다. 그림 1은전자전지원시스템의수신기관점에서 동일한 SNR에대하여검출성능을도시한것이다. 하지만실제전자전환경의위협신호는피탐확률을줄이기위해서동일한에너지를긴시간동안송신하므로, 실질적인환경에서의검출성능을확인하기위해서는식 (4) 로정의되는 ENR(energy to noise ratio) 대비검출확률또한함께분석해야한다. Detection performance versus ENR according to pulse width of the received signal and window length of energy detector (a) pulse width and window length are equal (b) window length: 2 μs (c) window length: 4 μs (d) window length: 16 μs 기준이되는 1 μs에서그림 1(a) 에비해각각 3 db, 6 db, 9 db, 12 db 씩줄어들어최종적으로길이가두배로늘어나면성능은 1.5 db 저하되는것을확인할수있다. 그림 2(b), 2(c) 및 2(d) 를보면, ENR 기준으로바뀌어서길이가길어질수록신호의파워가줄어드는특성이외에는다른사항이모두변함이없으므로그림 1의결과분석과동일한현상이발생한다. 따라서그림 1(b), 1(c) 및 1(d) 가그림 1(a) 에비해저하되는성능의수치와동일하게그림 2(a) 에비해성능이줄어드는것을확인할수있다. Ⅲ. 가중에너지검출기본장에서는 2장에서기술한에너지검출기의윈도우길이가실제수신신호의길이와일치하지않을경 우의성능분석을기반으로검출성능을향상시키기위한가중에너지검출기법을제안한다. 에너지검출기의윈도우길이가실제수신신호의길이보다작을경우에는, 실제수신신호의에너지를검출기가고려하지못하므로추가적인성능향상을기대하기어렵다. 하지만윈도우길이가실제수신신호의길이보다큰경우에는, 에너지검출기의총윈도우길이중에서짧은구간에큰가중치를곱해주고, 긴구간에작은가중치를곱해줌으로써, 상대적으로신호가많이포함되는구간의에너지정보를증가시킬수있다. 동일한현상을시간에따른에너지검출기의출력관점에서분석해보면, 그림 3(a) 와같이신호와윈도우길이가일치하는경우에는출력값이증가하다최대첨두 (peak) 지점이발생하며, 여기서검출성능이최대가된다. 하지만 3(b) 의경우와같이신호의길이에비해윈도우길이가상대적으로긴경우, 643

Output of the energy detector versus time index according to pulse width of the received signal and window length of energy detector (a) WL = PW (b) WL > PW (c) WL < PW 3(a) 의최대값과동일한출력값을유지하는구간이생기고, 이구간의출력은긴윈도우길이로인해 3(a) 에비교하여잡음을많이포함하게되므로성능열화가발생한다. 마지막으로 3(c) 는윈도우길이가실제신호보다짧기때문에포함하는잡음이줄어들지만 3(a) 에서발생하는최대지점까지도달하지못하는문제점이발생하므로, 실제신호가가지는최대성능을도출하지못한다. 제안하는가중에너지검출기는그림 3(b) 의상황에서잡음이존재하는구간의정보를줄이고신호가존재하는구간의정보를높이기위해가중치를곱해주는구조로최대값이유지되는구간을최대첨두 (peak) 지점이생기도록변경하기위하여최대가중치구간을고려하는최소의윈도우길이로설정한다. 이러한가중에너지검출기의검증통계치는식 (5) 와같이정의되며, 곱하게되는가중치 은그림 4로나타낼수있다. 여기서, 은그림 4에서확인할수있는바와같이최대가중치구간의샘플개수이며, 는최대가중치구간의시작지점, 은가중치로 개의가중치총합을 으로정규화시켜줌으로써, 기존의에너지검출기와동일한잡음을포함하도록설정할수있다. 그림 5는그림 3(b) 와같이수신신호의길이가윈도우보다짧은상황에서잡음이동일하게정규화된에너지검출기및가중에너지검출기에대하여신호만존재하는경우의시간에따른각검출기의출력값을도시한것이다. 여기서, 에너지검출기의최대지점을 1로정규화하였으며, 에너지검출기의윈도우길이는 16 μs, 사다리꼴형태의가중에너지검출기구조에서아랫변은 16 μs, 윗변은 2 μs로설정하였다. 그림 5(d) 로부터수신신호의길이와검출기의윈도우 644 (5) (a) (b) 그림 4. 기존에너지검출기 (a) 와가중에너지검출기 (b) 의가중치. Output of the energy detector and weighted energy detector corresponding to time: length of the received signal (a) 2 μs (b) 4 μs (c) 8 μs (d) 16 μs. 길이가동일한경우, 최대지점이동일하므로최종검출성능이유사할것으로예상할수있고, 그림 5(d) 수신신호의길이가짧은경우, 가중에너지검출기의출력값의최대지점은기존에너지검출기의출력값이유지되는구간에비해더큰값을가지는것을확인할수있으므로검출성능의향상을기대할수있다. Ⅳ. 모의실험결과본장에서는모의실험을통해제안하는가중에너지검출기의성능이기존에너지검출기의성능에비해향상되는것을정량적으로분석하여증명한다. 그림 6은 SNR 및 ENR 대비기존에너지검출기와가중에너지검출기의검출성능을나타낸것으로, 오경보율은 10-3, 각 SNR 및 ENR에대한시행횟수는 100,000회, 샘플링주파수는 150 MHz, 수신신호는 10 MHz의주파수를가지는구형파 (sinusoid) 를사용하였다. 여기서에너지검출기와가중에너지검출기의아랫변의길이는 (a) 4 μs, (b) 8 μs, (c) 16 μs를사용하였고, 가중에너지검출기의윗변의길이는 2 μs 를사용하였다. 또한, 그림 6(d), 6(e), 6(f) 는각각 6(a), 6(b), 6(c) 와동일한환경에서 ENR 대비검출성능을도시한것이다. 그림 6(a) 에서확인할수있듯이, 3장에서설명한바와동일하게기존에너지검출기가 8 μs, 16 μs 신호에대한검출성능이 4 μs의검출성능과일치하며, 가중에너지검출기또한윈도우길이보다긴신호에대해서는검출성능이기존에너지검출기와거의유사한것을확인할수있다. 반면 에수신신호길이가윈도우길이보다짧은 2 μs인경우에는검출성능이약 1 db 향상되는것을알수있다. 그림 6(b) 및그림 6(c) 또한그림 6(a) 의경우와동일한결과를도출할수있으며, 2-8 μs( 윗변- 아랫변 ) 윈도우길이를사용할경우에너지검출기에비해검출성능이약 1.5 db( 수신신호길이 : 2 μs) 및 1 db ( 수신신호길이 : 4 μs) 향상되고, 2-16 μs 윈도우길이를사용할경우검출성능이약 2 db( 수신신호길이 : 2μs), 1.8 db( 수신신호길이 : 4μs), 및 1 db( 수신신호길이 :8μs) 가향상됨을알수있다. 그림 6(d), 6(e), 6(f) 는기준이 SNR이아닌 ENR로변경된것이외에는각각 6(a), 6(b), 6(c) 와동일한환경이므로, 에너지검출기에비교되는성능향상의정도는동일하며, 전체적으로수신신호의길이가길경우, ENR 대비성능이떨어지는것을확인할수있다. Ⅴ. 결론본논문에서는전자전상황의미약신호환경에서미상신호원을검출하기위하여에너지검출기를사용할때, 수신신호의길이에대한사전정보의미확보로부터야기되는검출성능의열화를분석하고, 이러한열화가일어나는요건중에서, 검출기의윈도우길이에비해수신신호의길이가짧은경우의성능을향상시키기위하여가중에너지검출기를제안하고, 성능향상정도를분석하였다. 이러한가중에너지검출기는에너지검출기와유사한연산량을가지면서도, 검출확률이높아지므로추후전자전환경에실용적으로 645
