Course Title Chemistry_ Teacher Dani DeCesaro Textbook and Supplemental Resources Textbook: Chemistry (BJU Press) Supplemental readings, sub-textbook: Chemistry (The 100+ Series) :Goals and Objectives General Course Goals: Science is a discipline that helps students learn about God s creation and design. By studying in this course, students will be able to defend their faith and appreciate the world. In understanding the specific objectives, students will be able to explain concepts of how things work and are designed. Specific Objectives: Chemistry is a course to investigate specifically the elements of life and how they are composed and work together to make everything visually seen. Students will discover the different phases of matter (gas, liquid, solids) and interpret how to use previously learned skills with the new material. They will also show how solutions are created and how they may be used. Students will also gain an understanding of theories such as thermodynamics, chemical kinetics, and chemical equilibrium. Building on obtained skills students will increase and practically use their knowledge of oxidation when studying about oxidation-reduction reaction. Evaluation & Assessment 1. 20% - Mid-Term 2. 20% - Final Exam 3. 20% - Homework 4. 10% - Project 5. 20% - Quiz and Chapter Test 6. 10% - Participation / Behavior Project(PBL) & Activities Each section covered will include either a demonstration and/or experiment. Students will do a research project that incorporates their course of material. The project must demonstrate that the student fully understands the concepts learned in class.. - 13 -
