1 Foreword I am pleased to hereby present the ASEAN-Korea Centre s annual statistical booklet, 2013 ASEAN & Korea in Figures. Since the establishment of the Dialogue Partnership in 1989, the ASEAN-Korea Relations have witnessed a remarkable progress on the basis of shared values and mutual understanding. Furthermore, the elevation of the partnership to a strategic level in 2010, coupled with intensified cooperation in various fields such as economy, trade, and socioculture, have driven the two regions to usher in a bright and prosperous future. Extracted from credible sources both from government agencies and other international organizations, the statistical data in the booklet which focuses on various aspects of ASEAN-Korea relations provide the general public with a snapshot of the deepened relationship between the Member States of ASEAN and Korea. Inaugurated in March 2009 with the mandate of promoting economic and socio-cultural cooperation between ASEAN and Korea, the ASEAN-Korea Centre has been publishing a statistical booklet which covers a wide range of areas including trade, investment, culture, tourism as well as key societal indicators of ASEAN Member States and Korea every year. To provide easy and free access to a wider public, we also offer the booklet in an e-book format which can be accessed from our website ( I am confident that the 2013 ASEAN & Korea in Figures will serve as a useful guide for your understanding of ASEAN on its progress towards ASEAN Community 2015, and also believe that this publication will ultimately contribute to further strengthening the partnership between ASEAN Member States and Korea.
