Since the prcess temperature (600 C) is lwer than chemical vapr depsitin(900 ~ 1000 C), the strength and tughness culd be preserved. Furthermre the cating thickness unifrmity was imprved t 8% f deviatin alng the stacking sequence. Therefre, preventin frm fiber degradatin during cating prcess and cntrlling cating thickness unifrmity alng the prefrm depth were achieved by cating with phenlic resin carbnizing methd. ((a) TGA analysis up t 1000C and (b) 600C fr 1 h) 1시간의 등온 유지시간을 두었다. 탄화공정 조건에서의 TGA 분석 결과를 Fig. 3(b)에 나타냈으며, 800 C에서의 탄화수율과 차이가 크지 않아 충분한 탄화가 이루어짐을 확인하였다. 본 연구에 사용된 SiC 섬유는 하나의 bundle에 1600가 닥의 섬유가 포함되어 있으며, 이러한 bundle 내부까지 모 두 함침하기 위해서는 매우 낮은 점도의 용액이 필요하 게 된다. 초기 페놀수지의 점도는 table 1에 나타낸 바와 같이 740 cps로 VARTM 공정 시 최대허용 점도인 500 cps 를 초과하여 섬유에 대한 함침이 제대로 이루어지지 않 는 점도이나, 알코올 첨가량에 따라 용액의 점도가 현저 히 낮아져 용액내 페놀이 90 vl% 이하가 포함된 경우 bundle 내의 섬유가닥까지 함침이 가능한 500 cps 이하의 점도로 낮출 수 있었다. 즉, 페놀수지에 약간의 에탄올 첨 가로 점도를 크게 낮출 수 있었으며, 에탄올을 80% 이상 첨가했을 때의 점도는 0 cps에 가까웠다. 전술한 Table 1에 나타낸 여섯 종류의 용액으로 함침된 섬유를 경화 후 질소 분위기에서 탄화한 섬유의 SEM 분 석 사진을 아래의 Fig. 4에 나타내었다. 5 vl%의 페놀 수 8) Fig. 5. ((a) 1st cating, (b) 2nd cating and (c, d) 3rd cating) 지가 들어간 용액인 slutin A의 SEM 사진을 Fig. 4(a) 와 (b)에 나타내었다. 이경우 약 130~160 nm 두께의 탄 소막이 균일하게 코팅되어 있음을 확인하였다. 반면 용액 내의 페놀함량이 증가할수록 섬유표면에 탄소가 코팅막 으로 존재하기 보다는 Fig. 4(c)와 (d)의 경우처럼 섬유와 섬유 사이를 잇는 하나의 matrix의 형태로 존재함이 SEM 분석을 통해 나타났다. 즉, 페놀수지용액의 점도가 낮을 수록 섬유표면에 균일한 탄소 코팅막이 형성됨을 알 수 있었으며, 점도가 높은 경우 섬유가닥의 표면에 코팅이 되기보다는 섬유 bundle 내에 응집현상이 발생하게 됨을 알 수 있다. 섬유에 코팅되는 탄소 코팅층의 두께 조절을 위해 함 침-탄화 코팅공정을 반복 수행하였다. 5 vl%의 페놀수지 용액인 slutin A를 이용하여 함침과 탄화 공정을 3회 반 복한 결과를 Fig. 5에 나타내었다. 코팅 공정의 횟수를 증 가 시킬수록 코팅막의 두께는 함께 증가하였는데, Fig. 5(a) 제 46 권 제 3호(2009)
