Foreword ASEAN-Korea Centre is an inter-governmental organization inaugurated in March 2009 dedicated to promoting cooperation in trade, investment, culture and tourism between ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) member states and Korea. Since its establishment, the Centre has been undertaking various activities which will further strengthen the partnership between ASEAN and Korea into a more substantive and institutional one. In order to help better understand both societies of ASEAN and Korea, the Centre has compiled statistics on trade, investment, culture, tourism, and social indicators of ASEAN member countries and Korea and has published the 2009 ASEAN & Korea in Figures. This statistical yearbook is the first publication in Korea focusing on ASEAN member states' and Korea's statistical data. Based on materials from domestic and international organizations, this yearbook helps understand economic, social, and cultural aspects in ASEAN member countries and Korea and the extensive use of tables and graphs will allow for easier accessibility. The contents will be also posted on the Centre's website (http://www.aseankorea.org/english) and will be regularly updated. I hope that this 1st edition of the ASEAN & Korea statistical yearbook will contribute to enhancing the exchanges and cooperation between ASEAN and Korea. December 2009 Young Jai CHO Secretary General ASEAN-Korea Centre 001
