Journal of Educational Innovation Research 2016, Vol. 26, No. 2, pp.65-89 DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.21024/pnuedi.26.2.201608.65 ICF-CY :,,, * Analysis of Research Trends in ICF-CY Literatures for its application on Special Education: North America, Europe, Japan, and South Korea Purpose: We conducted a systematic literature review to analyze research articles with regard to (a) the number of research articles published by years (b) primary research field, (c) participants, (d) components addressed involved in the analyzed literatures, (e) implementation issues and compared them according to four regions of origin of papers. Methods: 85 ICF-CY articles published between 2007 and 2016 in domestic and international journal, were selected and analyzed. Results: In Europe and North America, the majority of ICF-CY related studies were conducted in psychology and medical fields. However, in South Korea and Japan, ICF-CY related studies were conducted in special education. In regard to the types of participants, articles from Europe, North American, and South Korea addressed ICF-CY for individuals with physical disability. In the articles from Japan, however, focused on autism spectrum disorder. Additionally, the majority of the articles across all four regions focused on activities and participation, body functions out of major ICF-CY components. In terms of ICF-CY implementations, more articles used ICF-CY as instruments to categorize disabilities than as ICF-CY conceptual articles. Conclusion: Future research should address ICF-CY for more various types of disabilities and ICF-CY related studies needs to identify how to use ICF-CY in other fields such as medical, psychology, and social welfare.
