Journal of Educational Innovation Research 2017, Vol. 27, No. 2, pp.119-144 DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.21024/pnuedi.27.2.201706.119 A Life History Research on the Reconceptualization of Political Neutrality of a School Teacher Purpose: The aim of this paper was to reconceptualize the political neutrality of schooling and school teacher in Korea through politically interpreting pedagogical experience, which is derived from the life trajectory of a history teacher. Method: This paper applied a life history research to illuminate the political neutrality in the pedagogical story of a school teacher. In addition, this paper analyzed the narratives and documents of the participant via a holistic content approach. Results: Two prominent results in terms of political neutrality of a school teacher are a pursuit of professionality and autonomy in history education through alternative educational activities: realizing zeitgeist, and the reconceptualization on the political neutrality of school teacher: from normative and legal perspective to practical approach. Conclusion: The results of this paper would be able to be a catalyst to understand and reconceptualize the political neutrality of schooling and school teacher in Korea.
